Ernest is assuming that an easy flip will be possible, lets say in 6 months. But it would appear to be a long shot bet with likely little to no return even if someone did corner the market on the 1190 supply chain for a year until any 2017 models returned.

Ernest,
Looks like you want to deal them badly. Go get yourself any licenses needed and put your plan in action. I'm assuming you plan on buying then for $8K and selling for $12K? Good luck with that. But without a sudden groundswell of desire erupting it may be a hard sell.

My 2 cents. EBR should forget about producing ICE powered bikes because it will only mean he will be shut down again and this time it will be by this latest owner. All you got to do is ride an electric motorcycle and you'll see that they will be the only thing selling in the next few years when the batteries make ICE look anemic by comparison. After watching this video and what the guy says about 1000 miles per charge you can see that ICE tech will go the way of the dinosaur as soon as the batteries go even 500 m/charge. Anyway, Erik needs to go full steam ahead on electric bike design and quit wasting his time and the owners millions on bikes that only Erik wants.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZg237IUdFk

That really is an eye opening video.

We will......likely....soon see the ICE go the way of the spark advance lever mounted on the steering column.

I would have to agree, an early entry into the electric motorcycle market with a bike built around Erik's handling and design characteristics would be good for business. This e-bike would have to be a second line of bikes, keeping with the X line and it's future upgrades and built to order RS bikes for racing.

When you take the time to think about it, creating bikes that the big well established manufacturers already dominate is a sure way to failure. I don't care how good a bike Buell can design, bike riders have their favorite brands and come hell or high water it would take a miracle to get them convinced to buy another brand. There are not enough of us Buell guys to support the brand especially when many of us are not into the bikes he's been currently offering.

To do the same thing over again would clearly fit the definition of insanity. With that being the case and few will disagree, Buell needs to do something completely revolutionary and that would be to go pure electric or maybe even hybrid gas/electric.

To delude himself into thinking that "If I build, they will come" is a sure recipe for the same tired old outcome of failure. Apple didn't get like they are by designing another Blackberry and Buell won't either. Besides, like other's have pointed out, dealers are not going to be very receptive to getting stuck with more of the same that didn't move the first time around.

Buell might actually have to go the Tesla route by selling from the factory and shipping to the buyer. Seems that is the way that Zero started and they clearly have done better than Buell because they own themselves and are still in business.

That guy is right of course about the end game, but I think his timeline is fantasy for a 500 mile range battery on an affordable motorcycle.

I'd love to be wrong, but I doubt I will see it in the next 15 years.

Back on topic, I was sure hoping we'd have some kind of update on things today since it's been just over a month since the sale. I guess the day's not over yet...

There's a LOT to be done . . . . and I'm not sure anyone has grasped the concept of what, legally and practically,m transpired in the sale.

I've got my own time line but we'll see how this plays out.

I'm rooting for the team and bet they are working around the clock.

Well, apparently there is a development: ebr.com and http://www.erikbuellracing.com (not https://) are working again as of ~6 PM. There don't appear to be any changes to the content from April.

In the July 16 Powersports Business article titled "‘Turnkey’ motorcycle manufacturing company for sale", Erik said in the interview:

"Fundamentally it’s turnkey,” Buell said. “We could literally be shipping bikes out of the building the same day somebody turns the switch back on. Bikes and engines are lined up on the production line, sitting there with plastic covers over them."

I also am rooting for the team! Just trying to make sense out of conflicting statements.

^ Yea, as theorized by Court, and backed up by posts made by Bruce, the legal issues with starting production far overshadow the technical ones.

The company we knew as EBR apparently no longer exists as a result of the receivership. That means all sorts of licensing, certfications, and permits have to somehow be transferred from "old" EBR to "new" EBR, or they have to be obtained from scratch. I'd guess one is a slow process while the other is a glacially slow process.

>>>The company we knew as EBR apparently no longer exists as a result of the receivership.

That's the legal situation and I am perfectly willing to be proven wrong.

I doubt you can take residual inventory of a defunct company that was split up and the assets sold in Receivership and ship them to customers and a non-existent dealer network.

Given the myriad of administrative mountains that must be climbed to be a register manufacturer of motor vehicles . . .it seems like a tough nut to crack.

The upside, and I'd wager some folks are diligently pursuing this, is that there may be a way to "morph" some of the certifications, if even as rudimentary as copying it and asserting a "this is identical to what you previously approved, we're requesting you expedite it" case . . . . these, in my experience as a businessman, require face to face discussions.

My take . . is that Erik's perseverance with Bruce's business savvy could, in concert, find a lot of solutions to the instant problems of rolling bikes out the doors again . . . . .

Here's hoping . . . .

At last- a word from Erik! Posted on his FB page today:

BK: When will we get some good news?

Erik Buell: Probably end of the month.

Glad to see something from Erik, no matter how brief, about what's going on.

I hope that they take advantage of the talent that is available among this community, both in terms of website and social media. Going to a commercial operator when the site is simple and social media is equally simple seems like a waste of resources to me. It can be updated easily, and monitored equally easily.

I was a little concerned by the lack of news this week as well.

Then I re-read Court's statement.

It's possible that it could be a big week for EBR, in a way that we'll never know about or that we'll only see the results of at a later date.

I guess I'm now an optimist...

Yea, that thought occurred to me too. Hopefully we'll see some indication of something good on October 1 based on Erik's comment and the comments posted to the EBR FB page.
