Anybody besides me waiting impatiently for the AX, hoping it will be the bike they want? Just what will it finally look like? I'm hoping for an improved Uly of sorts, with some changes.

First, ditch the 17" front wheel and ease up on the stiff rake angle. An unpaved road surface demands a proper 19" or even 21" wheel. I don't know what that means for the ZTL brake set-up.

Narrow the rear wheel a bit. 5.5" is too wide for a good dirt tire. 4.5" would be nice.

Other than that, I can't think of much else I wasn't happy about in the Uly. Of course they could take the AX in a different direction and make it into a sport-tourer like the Multistrada. In that case I'll have to think about it.

On 6/23 I'm leaving CenCal for a 5 week Alaska trip. I'm taking an FJR which means I won't be going up the Haul Road past Coldfoot or the Dempster Hwy. I'm hoping the 1190AX can do it.

My guess is it will lean towards the sport tourer with luggage, but that can go over a curb or a dirt road without panicking. Just because that is more aligned with the rest of their product line. The SX is already pretty close to a solid sport tourer.

For what you want, it sounds like a KLR 650 would be the perfect bike for you. They will tour very nicely, I spent a few days on the UP in Michigan with a KLR 650, a Uly, and a Super Tenera', and all three bikes were capable of doing everything we wanted to do (and could legally do) just fine.

The Super Ten had a leaking final drive, and the Uly came back with a pretty nasty top end tapping. The KLR had no issues.

Based on what they've done with the SX, I think we'll see minimal changes. EBR seems to be trying to broaden their model range as much as possible with the minimum of re-design, re-tooling, and re-certification.

My guess is the AX will have a new rear subframe and larger seat, mounts and bags, maybe an alternative exhaust arrangement so that the right bag doesn't have to be oddball, and some amount of fairing with a windshield but using the same LED headlight.

I'm also guessing we'll see it introduced at the AIMExpo in October 2014. (Fingers crossed.)

No KLR for me, although a wee strom might fill the bill. I'm thinking more of something like this . . .

A "Wee-Strom" is a fun motorcycle, it does many things well.

+1 on the WeeStrom, nicely sorted bike, plenty fast in the hands of a good rider. I'd take it over a VStrom every time.

The Kawsaki Versys is another one that looks interesting to me. No idea if it has any soul or not though.

I'm hoping for a more XTish version, myself. But then I want more wind protection..... I would LOVE a 185hp EBR/Multistrada thing. But then I don't care about off road.

Something like the xtant Ully based on the current architecture is a definate, but I don't see why they couldn't do an S3T- a dedicated sport tourer down the road, to expand the line.

It could even be a tuber. Why not?

But yeah, something like an XT with the 1190 motor is gonna get me BROKE!
