Oschersleben, with motorcycle fans a similar sound as the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. On the round course run riot professionals and amateur racers on Ducati, Buell and BMW boxers. The relaxed atmosphere tempts one or the other even at times frivolous offerings - such as me to trust the new superbike from Buell, which goes by the somewhat cumbersome name 1190RS EWC in order to explore once the limits of the circuit.

DISPLAY

"The track is totally clear and the 1190s is about as handy as a bike ride," says her owner Thomas Wanner. Wanner, of the Pegasus Race Team operates has to talk easily. Well laps hold fast motorcycles, in principle, less danger than the Hamburg city traffic, but I'm at best amateur racers, and the EWC 1190RS is a special motorcycle: 155 hp at the rear, 179 kg easily constructed from aluminum and magnesium parts and a lot of Karbon. Pure Superbike Power, Made in USA. Its builder, the American inventor and designer Erik Buell has, at the EWC 1190RS waived gadgets such as traction control or ABS, otherwise their price is around € 44,000, at 50,000 over the limit increased.
But not only the high price guarantees exclusivity: Buell motorcycles built by the first of a limited edition of one hundred copies - and only one of which was shipped to Europe until now. So I sit on a quasi one-off.

Good-natured muscleman

Good drivers are on the home straight curve starting at Oschersleben with about 70 to 80 miles per hour on the road. Then, to speed up full. The 1190RS has so much power and torque that is 600 meters with occasional contact of the front wheel to the road three or four courses are through. At the braking point close to 250 kilometers per hour are reached before going fully into the iron.

Stress this puts the chassis of the 1190RS better off than me. The chassis consists of a solid aluminum frame with integrated tank, magnesium wheels are the front of an upside-down forks and rear via a swinging arm and a leg spring. Erik Buell took it back on components from Öhlins and saved elsewhere at any point: In front there is still a huge single disc, which bridles the elemental force of the machine itself. Only the slightly ungainly display panel in the cockpit testifies to the fact that the resources but were ultimately limited.

The water-cooled V-twin power unit brings his unimpressed and completely straight holes without even from low speeds. It is already known from the Buell 1125, prior to the closure of the production by the then parent Harley-Davidson in October 2009 as the last model rolled off the assembly line. Built by Rotax in Austria, and by EWC in East Troy, Wisconsin drilled to 1190 cc, it is of American drivers and the Pegasus Race Team has already been successfully used in the pure racing version 1190RR.

The 1190RS is slightly modified version of their road race in Oschersleben sister not far behind. In the chicanes and the turn-in of the curves proves the 179 kilogram single-seater to be extremely handy; Wanners comparison with the bike is not too far-fetched. After the first rounds of respect and adrenaline levels have gradually leveled out, but if you let the bike run smoothly, it looks almost playful way and also leads his opportunity racers like us safely over the route. Wanner, who runs faster, and its top rider Harald Kitsch unanimously confirm that the 1190RS also in the border area behaves perfectly good-natured.

Who should buy it?

Compared to the 2009 closed area in which at least went through hundreds of thousands of Buell's band, Erik Buell Racing a small sweatshop - but large enough to produce a hundred machines by hand. This number must EWC within two years to achieve, to compete in the American AMA racing series against the Japanese Superbike racing teams can. Without podiums and trophies goes nothing: Erik Buell lives as a designer of his racing success like Apple design awards.

DISPLAY

As in the United States approved for the road racing bike, however, a commercial zero-sum game or even one of the success is, however, is still completely open. Erik Buell has the Harley did not have an American Superbike built out, the Japanese competition, which can range Ducati 1198 and the BMW S 1000 RR without problems the water. More than that: In terms of exclusivity of the challenger top dogs can be far behind. Hundreds of pieces are so safe, even for the exorbitant price of 45,000 €, and by way of agreement - most probably to collectors and American patriots who have been waiting for a super bike from American hands.
But from the series, which Erik Buell envisioned, and a coherent business model, he is far away. Only an estimated 5,000 copies built from a sale price can be around 20,000 € realize that they can mobilize the 1190RS potential buyers. For these quantities also needs the art-magician Buell, a production line - and an investor with a lot of money. However, EWC, one hears, already filed in an appropriate business plan, and talks recently with Chinese donors.

Whether what is? For Buell, you never know - he was declared dead at least often enough.

I think that the comparison of "designer" Erik Buell to Steve Jobs is entirely appropriate, as were Steve Jobs's last words: 'Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow'. He must have seen the 1190 parked outside the Pearly Gates.

comon now, Steve Jobs is no Bill Gates
Bill Gates the Ben Franklin of our time.
he is has created more jobs then obama could in 100 years. he has more money that would last him lifetimes. he is generous and gives billions to charity. he gave up his CEO position to enjoy life a little.
he did not have to become president to be well known around the world.
MS has now saved NOKIa with the windows phone is way superior to the i-phone.lol

Steve Jobs was a visionary and a design genius. All Gates and Microsoft did was steal Jobs and Apple's GUI interface. Microsoft's ease of use still falls way behind Apple's.

And Job's stole the interface from Xerox (PARC). Gates and Allen bought the code from Seattle Computer Company after making the deal with IBM.

"And Job's stole the interface from Xerox (PARC). Gates and Allen bought the code from Seattle Computer Company after making the deal with IBM."

There are a many questions about that so called "purchase" and how much it resembled Apple's Interface.
Apple is a lot more innovative company than Microsoft will ever hope to be.
