I gleaned the following from an informal question (Q), comment (C), and answer (A) exchange between Geoff May and fellow WERA racing forum contributors at http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=282544.

Q: What motor is in it? A Rotax v twin?

A: Its the Shelby Cobra Big Block of Motorcycles. Fastest bike I've ever ridden in my racing career.

Q: Will there be a more affordable street bike version? (question seems to have disappeared from the forum; not sure if that is correct; just guessing from Geoff's answer)

A: Thats phase 2, Erik wanted to come back with a huge F'n Bang.

Q: Bike looks fantastic. I wonder what they will be priced at.

A: Close to a Bayliss edition 1098R. But more exclusive, piece of American history.

Q: So how many does he have to sell before it can be raced?

A: Twelve have to be on dealer floors, not sold; 100 by Dec 31, 2011.

C: That seems pretty reasonable.

A: Yup, considering the fact they're hand made and only 100. The wheels are set in motion for a more affordable one.

Q: Did you have a hand in the development phase of it Geoff, or was it pretty much mostly done by the time you started testing it out?

A: Everything we did in racing last year was for this bike. I tested this bike back in April of last year for the first time. AMA would not allow us to run it per their homologation rules, which is fair. But they did allow us to homologate certain parts to prove reliability and function, like the radiators, oil cooler, brake rotor/brake set up, and the exhaust system just to name a few. Erik already had a prototype called the 1190RR which I tested over the year when we had time. WERA rules allowed us to test the bodywork for the 1190 on the 1125RR at the GNF. It was a long process and I came in towards the end, my part was mainly in proving the product and fine-tuning it. The former Buell employee's before the shut down by Harley deserve most of the credit.

Q: Is the carbon edition the only one being made at the moment?

A: The majority of them are the regular 1190RS with a handful of the carbon being made. Thats what Erik told me anyways.

Q: Are you allowed to talk about weight/hp numbers?

A: Don't know exact numbers on the streetbike, but the race version I rode at Miller last year weighed around 363 wet give or take a pound, and put out right around 190 RWHP on R-Tec Pro v 1. We think we could get one down to 340 something if we went crazy with ti and lighten'n up things.

C: Geoff, I wanted to just thank you, for posting here and adding your opinion. Your insight is truly appreciated.

A: I appreciate the feed back as well. This new bike is a secret I've had to keep for almost a year now. Its a huge relief to hear the enthusiasm for it. Its truly a milestone in American motorcycle history. Couldn't come at a better time. I can't imagine the way Erik feels right now after all the shit he's gone thru.
