Amazing isn't it. That kind of money to run a company into the ground.

one of the few things H-D has going for it is the name has enough clout that someone will want it. If it sells before they go bankrupt remains to be seen

Hahahahaha . . . my company . . a publicly traded corporation with about $13,000,000,000 in revenues last year, just had a great year with $868,000,000 in net profit.

I just got my bonus, which pays April 1, and I didn't do near as well as Keith.

Damn it all.

: )

The guy has surrounded himself with some folks who have a very short vision of HD.

"The company has been laying off workers, closed factories and shuttered or sold unwanted brands"

It seems like the only people that considered them "unwanted brands" were the dealers themselves.
If Buell was so unwanted why don't they "H-D" release them so someone else could have a chance to buy them out and start manufacturing bikes again?

I'm sure that news will not sit well with the H-D employees (such as the guys at York who took a real beating during the last contract).
Greedy empty suits squeezing the company dry and then off they run; this reminds me of the years when my late wife and I worked at AT&T as the place was slowly going under. One round of layoffs after another for the workforce with massive payments to the top brass.
One day I actually figured it out: they were paying the CEO $3600 for the amount of time it would take to go to the bathroom!
Lots of luck, Harlee, you're going to need it.

If I got that much money in a single year I would retire! I just can not imagine making that much in a year, even his base pay would cause me to think about what I was doing since I should be able to turn that into an investment that will keep me near my current level for the rest of my life. Yes I am a staff person at an educational institution, I make sh!t a year.

I don't begrudge the man the fact that he makes a hell of a lot of money.

I begrudge the fact that while I was a significant stockholder, he took the safe and unimaginative path.

Jack Welch, who I was no fan of, was laying off my co-workers right and left while I was working at GE. He asked his middle managers for a list of people that could be let go. They gave him back a list ordered by seniority.

He responded back saying, if this is the best you are capable of, then I know exactly who I can lay off. Give me a real list by Friday, or pack up your desks. They proceeded to give him a real list, based on skills and needs and attitude.

Keith Wandell took the "first list" from the people beneath him. If that's the best he can do, I know who needs to go.

"...I begrudge the fact that while I was a significant stockholder, he took the safe and unimaginative path..."

sorry, i disagree with this. what was done was neither safe nor unimaginative, imo. safe and unimaginative would have been to sell buell to someone that would continue its production - less money lost that way. safe and imaginative would have been to keep buell, and properly market it home and abroad.

nothing safe about further jeopardizing h-d's existence by being bullheaded, refusing to sell a wiable asset, yust shutting it down instead. and it takes a wild imagination to follow through with such unsafe practices. of course, who knows? maybe h-d has plans for new sportsters, with forward-leaning riding position, oil/fuel in frame, exhausts below the engines, short wheelbases, perimeter-wheel brake discs, 400lbs or less...

ymmv,

doug s.

This reminds me the movie Greed.
Its amazing how people just keep wanting more and more. Its sad how people can never seem to reach a point when they can say I am happy and put more value in other things other then money.
6 million for this idiot is ridiculuos.
i could have taken the steps he did, i would have charged 100k.
its no science that when you are hurting you have to cut back and make hard decisions, its the name of the business game.
I would have spread the 5.9 million on lowering the price of the product and give that bonus to clients. so they come back.
and keep employees working.
I hate to see what hapened to buell, but more i hate to see those people that lost the factory jobs at buell.
thanks to this people i enjoy the best ride i could have ever asked.
there are more important things then money.

By "safe", I meant "safe" as in it is safe to tell the emperor how fine his new clothing is.

To stand there and tell him he is a dumb*$$, and that he is naked, and has been for the last 5 years, generally doesn't go well.

1 out of 10 times, the emperor will hear, understand, and thank you for being honest and a trusted advisor.

The other 9 out of 10 times, one of the emperors bureaucrats will simply chop off your head, generally long before the emperor even gets the memo. Because of course, *they* hired the tailor and *they* have been singing the praises of the suit.

For 11ty million dollars a year, or whatever he makes, I would hope for a better emperor. As former stockholder, I am sure I didn't get it, and voted with my feet.

Well,

I may be wrong, but it looks to me they are making moves to up their stock prices.....for what I don't know. It does strike me that the current board and owners brought Mr. Wandell in for a reason. His actions appear to be taken to stabilize a declining share price. That's important when you are prepping to sell. Time will tell. I think you have to cut him a break. He is doing what Harley's board and major shareholders want him to do.....otherwise, he wouldn't be getting paid what he is getting paid. Right Willie G.?

Selling Buell didn't shore up Harley prices, unless they used it as a cover to hide massive losses. Which, of course, would be illegal. Right Harley?

well i think he is correct n the article saying Harley is an oldmobile of bikes.
I think peopel that feel young will ride a buell or somethign more modern or better engineered. Someone that has a little dick and thinks being tough is being on a cruser with no helmet and his leather jacket is tough will be on a harley.
a friend of mine ust traded his harley for a buell and his first thing that came out of his mouth. when I asked him why trade.
he said its slow and too many rednecks ride them, lol
