Returned home from 2010 Daytona with mixed feelings. I test rode a Harley XR1200 and was not impressed. Very much just another Sportster with ugly pipes. Lots of people my age (53) and older test riding Harleys. Where were all the younger enthusiasts? Not being interested the rest of the HD lineup, I went over to test the Triumphs. I rode the Thruxton (gutless but pretty), the Thunderbird (great engine, but too much a cruiser), and the Daytona 675 triple (fast!, light!, smooth!). I think the larger speed triple would suit me, but the line was too long. Sure wish Buell had been there!
Then I went to Beach Street to check out the customs. And almost next door to HD was a fabulous bike, the US Highland. http://www.ushighland.com/ Made in Oklahoma, USA. It's a 980cc V-twin motor, very light, very narrow, and plans to be offered in flattrack style or sportbike in Spondon like frame. Check them out. I'll bet you see one on the AMA circuit soon. Lighter and stronger than an XR750. I'm ready to buy one.
Rode home on my Buell XB12SS and had a ball. I miss Buell, and love "my" Buell. My next bike may be a Highland, made in America! But I'll keep my Buell, too.

Not sure, but I think I recall Highland having been a Scandinavian company not long ago. Still looking forward to their offering.

Like the the great Lee Iacoca once said.
"you lead, you follow or get out of the way"
HD needs to get out of the way with their
1925 engines and stop embarracing Americans with that old crappy technology.
Erik Buell racing is our only inovative company
