Congratulations Erik Buell, Mike Stone of Queensryche, & Peavy custom guitars!

Looks like Peavy will have a real winner on their hands with the new Mike Stone Signature MS-1 guitar designed by Erik Buell.

Winter NAMM: Queensrÿche Guitarist Mike Stone Collaborates With Peavey Custom Shop & Erik Buell on Signature Guitar

January 17, 2008

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Winter NAMM) — Peavey proudly introduces the new Mike Stone Signature MS-1™ guitar, an exclusive collaboration of Queensrÿche guitarist Mike Stone and motorcycle designer Erik Buell with the Peavey Custom Shop.

A testament to the creativity and craftsmanship of the Peavey Custom Shop, the MS-1 guitar features an original contoured mahogany body shape developed by Mike Stone and Erik Buell, accompanied by a set mahogany neck, twin Seymour Duncan 59® humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge positions and a two-way adjustable bridge with Peavey’s patented Dual Compression™ tailpiece.

Stone’s friendship with famed motorcycle designer and guitarist Erik Buell led to this collaboration with the Peavey Custom Shop, and ultimately the new Peavey MS-1 guitar. “Erik had a Peavey guitar with orange and red flames on it,” recalls Stone, “and one day he said, ‘You’re a Peavey guy, you should play this!’ I started playing it and I could just smoke on that thing! Then Peavey sent me a few HP™ Special guitars, and they were just as killer.

"One day I asked him if he’d ever thought about designing a guitar, and it all fell into place from that moment. Erik’s thing is balance, and his designs tend to be very unique and forward thinking. For this collaboration I wanted a modern, crushing guitar that can do everything, but be very curvy and sexy. Peavey was the only company that could help us bring those ideas to life."

The Peavey Custom Shop (www.peaveycustomshop.com) features a web-based design application that takes you step-by-step through the process of designing Peavey musical instruments to your own specifications. Winner of Adobe® Systems' prestigious Site of the Day and Best In Show at Summer 2007 NAMM, it allows you to choose the features on your Peavey guitar, dial in virtually any color and even upload a custom JPG picture or artwork for your custom instrument.

“The Peavey Custom Shop guitars that I have are probably the best-playing guitars I’ve ever owned, adds Stone. “That’s saying a lot, because I’ve owned hundreds. That’s why we wanted to collaborate with Peavey on this special instrument.”

The Peavey MS-1 guitar will be built to order in the Peavey Custom Shop.

Check out the photos here. Oh and I suppose you are wondering if his Buell is customised, well yes it is! Check out the pics of his custom tank.

I've only played for 12 years.

this guitar is pretty sweet btw, not real master shredding tools but will get the job done.

* just noticed in the fine print that the guitars will be made to order from their custom shop* er something to that effect. I take it that means I wont be able to play one at the local music store.

Thanks Court for the video!

I'm not a big fan of Queensryche, but I do like the guitar body shape.

I wish they would of played the damn thing a little, would be nice if I could get some time to jam with the man.

Got some peavey stuff in my house too. I guess good taste is something you cant buy eh?

Been noodling off and on for the past 10 years or so. Still suck, still love guitars. Sold my US Tele and JV Strat to help pay for my '07 XB9R, oh and a really sweet Larrivee OM-03R. Miss them all, until I go to the garage and see my paid for Buell.

Have a nice wood bodied resonator and a cedar topped Seagull that sounds fantastic. Well it would in better hands! Also have a lower end Gibson Les Paul but I think I am more of a Fender guy. Oh, and a Danelectro reissue that I bought 5 years ago or so. My little brother has that currently in Atlanta along with a cool Pro Jr amp. Plan to get another soon from Elderly- only 249.00.....and they sound so cool.Gotta love those pickups and cheap ass construction.

Man I don't remember Erik's voice being that deep, or is it just compression factors? Cool none the less!

That is a sweet looking guitar, with a pair of my favorite humbuckers in it right out of the box! I've had a fair amount of Peavey gear over the years, and do service work for the local dealer, and you can sure tell that their stuff is designed by players. I'm just building my collection back up, so I'm gonna get the guys at the shop to price one out for me. Right now, my main guitar is a new Gibson BFG, without a doubt the best and most brutal Les Paul I've ever played. I'm a P-90 fan, and have a mahogany bodied Fender StratoSonic with wraparound tailpiece and a single soapbar, and a mutant mahogany bodied Telecaster with a truly wacky Gibson tremolo and a pair of soapbars. Somewhere in the basement is an Explorer with a pair of Dimarzio Super Distortions in it, and sitting by by side as we speak is "Zeke", my road thrashed black '76 Telecaster. It is by far the heaviest (by weight, AND sound) guitar I've ever played, made even nastier by the fact that it's strung .013"-.070", and tuned down to "B". A few years back, I did a fill in gig for a death metal band, and had to laugh when I heard someone cracking wise about "....that old dude with the Tele!" while setting up my gear. Lemme tell ya, a couple of bars into the set, Zeke made believers of the whole gnarly bunch of 'em!

>>> it's strung .013"-.070"

Those are not "strings". . . . those are BARS!

The more you look at the MS-1 the more appealing it is . . . I'm learning a little bit about Peavey and their Custom Shop is akin to taking a couple enthusiasts from the Buell R&D shop, toss in a badwebber and put them in a laboratory. I'm getting word that they do some really cool stuff.

Shall see. . . . .

A Tele heavier than Les Paul? . .yikes. . . I didn't know anything could be heavier than a Les Paul!

...heavier than a Les Paul? Oh, yeah, at a back-crunching 10 pounds,3 ounces, it's a real monster, Court! Mind you, if I took it to the car wash, and strung it with a set of 9's, I'd probably strip a couple of pounds off of it, anyway!
Actually, there is a bit of Buell trivia tied to that Tele; it used to belong to my buddy, Reed Shimozawa, who is the guitarist on the Todd Kerns Oddity videos in the "Mania" section of the Buell website. I remember him telling me about some secret project that him and Todd were working on for some motorcycle company, and he was pumped about it. I owned the Tele by the time he cut those tracks, but I think that he used an amazing early eighties Dean ML that I once owned.
It really is a small world, in a really good way!

You have no idea! . . . I was on the phone with the editor of PREMIER GUITAR the other day. I'm talking guitar, say something about Buell and he says "you've heard of Buell?"

He's a Ulysses rider!

The story got good from there. . .

: )

Yes, I'm into guitars but only buy Gibson for electric (have quite a few). I'm sure that Peavey is a good guitar, though.

I've got a couple Gibsons as well (Acoustic) but am eager to hear this MS-1. It's a really thought through instrument.

Been playing for about 6 years off and on, mostly off. I just got in my Ovation Celebrity. Probably the best $300 acoustic electric in the world. They shipped it free to me over here in the Middle East, now I just gotta get it home somehow. I have alot of guys in Iraq I have turned on to MF.com because they can go from boredom to rockin' in about ten days and they can get an axe for cheap enough so they can just turn it over to a troop that is releiving them. And shipping is free.Thank you musicians friend dot com!!!
I know this sounds like a serious plug but it is pretty cool getting a guitar in the mail when your deployed.
