Or will that just mean that you'll have a 15k lightning that the engine parts are ridiculously expensive for?

you know what, 15 k is not bad if buell gets to be in the same level of ducati.
this could be the beginning of a tradtion for Buell to race in GP.
but you have to remeber that the euro is higher then the dollar. ducati could benefit if the ducatis get buit in america with cheaper labor cost. as a trade this could mean ducati 1098 and buellxb1098 for under 12K which would kill the jappy bike market.
HD has to make this move. chances liek this don't come often and who is to say if we dont hurry then HONDA my try to buy them.
however I dont think Ducati would ever join with a Japp company cause that would destroy their reputation for inovation and quality which buell has worked hard for it.
welcome the Ducs to HD

The only thing going on here is Ducati's new CEO, Enrico D’Onofrio, is expressing his openness to business.

The rest is utter nonsense.

HD would be hard pressed to keep Buell around.

I just don't know about this. If it gets us into MotoGP YAHOOOO. However, how will this ultimately effect Buell? I guess only time will tell?
I almost bought a Duc so perhaps this is a good thing.

unfortunately, I agree with Bad Karma....

Overlapping product lines would be vary hard to justify...

which isn't to say the two companies couldn't work out something short of an actual merger like sharing distribution/dealer networks and or engine/chassis swaps...

this is my take on this
if ducati joins HD.
Buell keeps selling the XBs plus a new model with a ducati engine. keep buell with the naked bikes.
this means ducati would get rid of the monster and focus on the high performance speed bikes.
buell could continue on the motocross.
this way they would not compete agaist eachother but agaist the other companies.
however with this great idea there is a greta CEO who has made Autodesk one of the highest earning companies.
their product was autocad and when they bought revit one of their competition.
they did not take anyhting from the companies but just saved cost in marketing.
revit and autocad compete with each other and autodesk made a deal with clients. that if they wanted both softwares they can have them for an very low price.
thsi could mean lets say i have a buell, HD could say if you buy a second bike from us" a "ducati 1098" you get it for 12k intead of the non HD loyal customer that pays 15k.
come on CEOs' make this thing happen.
i want to buy an American Ducati for speed and my buell for my daily commute.

I like this little bit of news. I like it lots! Ducatis are sweet, but Buells are still king. I think a little tech sharing would be healthy for all involved.

"HD would be hard pressed to keep Buell around. "

Why? Because suddenly all Buell customers are going to drop them in favor of Ducatis? : ? I don't think so. Thus market share would be lost. Buell is making a profit and growing steadily. It would be very bad business for HDI to close up shop at Buell.

Each of the three has brand equity- no changes would occur. HD / Buell do not need any technology that Ducati could bring to the table.
The mother ship may grow stronger- that's it.

buell could benefit from ducati, they could be a contender in GP. it would be nice to see an american bike win it.
remember also even if HD gets ducati people will think of ducati as italian. Buell wining the GP or doing podium finishes is the best marketing.
just look at Rossi, his followers use to buy honda now they buy yamaha.
just look what stoner wins have done for ducati free marketing and sales of bikes.

If you think H-D dealers treat Buell like a red headed step child, how do you think Ducati would fair.

See, that's just my point. If HD owned Ducati, that fact would remain transparent. To do otherwise would risk alienating the traditional Ducati customer base.
There would be no point, from a corporate standpoint, in a Buell Moto GP campaign if you already owned a race-proven business unit. Thats just fantasy.
Consider the recent Daimler Chrysler disaster. Nobody thought of Chryslers as German cars. And, even with a fair bit of Daimler technology under the hood of many of these cars, It didn't save the company- or even make them viable for that matter. Ducati has teetered on the brink of solvency for years.

HD's will remain HD's, Ducatis will retain their identities, and thankfully so will Buells- regardless of who owns them.

Buell isn't going anywhere. I'd feel better on a Buell than a Duc...even though I'd like a Duc too.

But really. It's just business. Buell will remain. Just wait until July.

July, baby.
