I have read some other posts here claiming the XBRR is no longer being built/developed?
Is this true? Say its not so.

Dead? Uh, no. Try winning races and racing all over the world, from America to Australia, to France to...

From the very start Buell announced that they would build and sell 50 XBRRs. They built a few more than that, but all are sold. You may be able to purchase an engine and other XBRR-only parts like the slipper clutch and bodywork if you really want. Give the folks at Buell Racing a call, or go through your local dealer.

I thought the 50 units built were for the 1st year, I did not know that was all there was ever to be built. I would have tried to come up with the money some how back then if I had known. Oh well hindsight is 20/20 as they say.I love my 12R but I get smoked alot on the track in the straights and need more juice under the hood so to speak. I also want to get a reliable track only bike with the power of the RR so I guess I will just have to keep an eye out for a used one.

Or you could purchase a new XBRR engine from the folks at Buell Racing and install it into your Buell XB12 Track Bike. It will fit. : )

I have a full race GMD suspension I wonder what it would take to fit the RR engine in my bike/ And what do they cost? I have a Micron pipe and a race ECM i wonder if they will work.

I think they pretty much bolt right in, not 100% on that though. Your pipe and ECM will not work with the RR mill.

Your local dealer can get you pricing on the RR engine/tranny and everything you'd need to put it into your XB12R.

Or try contacting the XBRR racing dealer-sponsors here (in alphabetical order):

Cycle-Connection

Hal's

Liberty

Since Blake did not answer your question, I wonder if there is an Anony out there that will confirm my beliefs below.

It IS so! My bet is that the XBRR is no longer being built and developed...Buell is working on the new superbike! It will make us forget all about those persnickety XBRRs.

Sure, there are a few of the 50+ Buell XBRRs that are still being raced, but it looks like most have been mothballed and are in private collections. Someday, they will be worth a lot of money...like $30,000 each or something!!! Lately, they have been selling brand new for a lot less on ebay.

Get 'em while you can.

I believe 55 were built, and an additional 50 engines. Whether or not more get built will depend on the workload at Buell, but the existing bikes are totally supported with parts and advice as well as staff at major events.

Support is planned to continue into the foreseeable future, as these were built for privateers to race and therefore parts and support are part of the plan. Also development and refinement is still going on, with the emphasis on easing and reducing maintenance, rather than increasing performance.

Even if Buell were working on some other race bike, it would be something for other classes, as the XBRR is a unique beast that fits into an interesting mix of classes around the world, and is competitive in many. We are not planning on or working on a replacement for it.

Of course many are parked and were bought just because they were unique; that happens with every limited production motorcycle, especially race ones. But there are some out racing, and we hope more will find sponsors and riders. So, go race 'em, win with 'em; we'll keep the parts and support coming!

Me, I want to put one of those engines in my street XB, but my boss would probably kill me! He wants them raced!

We're still working on trying to come up with a viable So CA dealer team.

and NO - we're not taking applications for riders!!! (already have a couple capable of putting the bike on the podium every time it leaves the paddock)

Got the RR and an RR motored XB as a "B" bike... stay tuned

My bike could handle the power so I am told and I build Jet Engines and guns for a living, also I have been a Professional Mechanic for 20 plus years so I think I could get it to work. I just need to know how to get one and how much any dealers out there know the cost of conversion in parts? It would make a wicked track bike I would like to use stock fairings and everything so non Buell guys would think it stock

Keith,

IF the Glendale team doesn't come together (keep in mind we're talking at least 2 other dealers all agreeing on racing) - there might be an RR for sale... and kinda cheap - and zero racing miles (so far)

MUST go to a licensed racer though.

Funny you should mention that. As much as I'm loving the 1125, as a tube frame owner, I would also like to see Buell keep developing their air-cooled machines.

What about an insane XBRR powered tube-frameish hotrod streetfighter? Like a completely modern take on the S1? Am I alone in thinking that would just be too awesome???}

Well, you're getting you wish, just not all in one shot.

The 08's Thunderstorm engines have changes taken from the XBRR. You get the improved oil pump, and the valve train improvements that allow the higher redline. I'm not sure if the timing changes were developed on the XBRR, but they are nice to hear about as well.

If dead includes just winning the 2007 French Protwins Championship and both the Supertwins and Superbike events at Daytona ASRA this fall, I guess they are dead. NOT!

Buell took it on the chin . . . folks told'em they'd better take a close look at this stuff . . . then Buell wins a string of Championships and they want to know if the XBRR is dead?

I love the internet!

Go look at the plat next to the beast at Barbers Museum here in Birmingham Alabama. It says it all. “The XBRR program was a miserable failure due to lack of power and speed necessary to compete with the 600 class bikes”. I have personally witnessed many a Buell here at Barbers lacking the 6th gear, every f-in body else has in the class has, looking as if someone dropped a freekin anchor on the long straights.

Please, Please, Please…… Erik, I am so very sorry I didn’t know what to say when I met you the very first time at Home Coming 07, but please give us the “TRUE” American hot rod we all desperately want. With the same 6th gear you give the 1125, I promise we the people of the United States of America promise to “KICK SOME EVER LOVIN ASS” and you won’t be able to make enough Buells.

I would love to see the “Street fighter shootout” article in all the Mags if I could only have that XBRR with 11 to 1’s and a 6 speed in my wife’s XB12Scg. There is no sensation short of pulling up in an actual AC Cobra on bike night that matches the look on everyone’s face when we pull up on these 2 tiny “Harley” exotics, loping around with our LOUD ARS pipes and scaring all the little teenagers on their CBR’s, R1s, and other “Everybody’s got one” bikes. Hell, if giving us the XBRR engine is such a pain in the ARS, at least give us a 6th gear also. Yea, I know….” NO ONE Needs a 6th gear….

Maybe this next year at home coming it will look more like a scene from “Biker boys” and the NAACP will all be on 1125’s. Yea, I know that sounds RACIST, especially me being from the “SOUTH” and all, but bring your happy little “OPEN Minded Butts” down here and find yourself off in the right crowd and you will see who the “REAL HATERS” are. Go round up your local “GANGS” today and see if you spot any “Italians” in the crowd. Maybe all of us “Harley” boys should just stay home next year. Most white guys I live around won’t buy a sport bike because of not being accepted in “THAT” crowd around here. Hell, it is worst than any Harley group you will ever ride up into. I personally liked the crowd I found up there at this last years Homecoming and don’t want to see that go away with a bunch of the same old “Biker-Boys-Gangstar-Wanna-Be” crowd prevalent down here with the sport bike crowd replacing them.

GOD BLESS the USA, GOD BLESS HOT RODS, and GOD HELP us poor forgotten “Air-Cool” fools.

"The XBRR program was a miserable failure due to lack of power and speed necessary to compete with the 600 class bikes."

That is nothing short of a malicious lie. It wasn't a lack of speed or power that hurt the XBRR in AMA Formula Xtreme.

While the XBRR program isn't dead and there have been great achievments made by teams racing
it, the future of the XBRR as a competitive race bike looks a little bleak.

Before people come too unglued over that let me explain my reasoning.

I'm a little concerned by most of the bigger name teams putting their XBRRs up for sale in
recent weeks/months here in the US.

If Bison, Hal's, and others are selling their bikes who will be racing them? I understand
what is happening better than a lot of people having been a part of a race team up until this
past season. They are selling them off because for the most part they cannot afford to field
both an 1125r and an XBRR so one has to go.

This will unfortunately end up shorting the smaller teams when it comes to development of
the XBRR.

Without the bigger teams like Hal's doing R&D with Buell's help the RR is nearing the
end of it's development. It does not mean that stock parts are not going to be available,
I'm sure that Buell has more than enough parts in reserve.

The smaller teals will continue to soldier on, but I doubt that there will be much interest
on the part of parts manufacturers in making parts for a model of race bike with a production
run of 55 or so, we have a hard enough time getting them to make parts for the street bikes!

The factory says that any further development will be focused towards lengthening service
interval not in increasing the bikes power output. For any race bike to be competitive it has
to continue to improve. Without continued performance development it will fade away very
quickly. The small teams on shoestring budgets usually can't afford the kind of dyno time
it takes to develop a new part. They are usually eating ramen to squeeze the cash they need
to properly tune their bike with parts that have a proven design.

In the ASRA classes where the XBRR was running, Superbike and Supertwins, the 1125r is
going to be a more competitive machine than the XBRR and with higher production numbers
there should be aftermarket performance parts, especially with the support it has gotten
in the press. Of course the 1125r isn't legal for the AMA-FX class, but XBRR won't be able
to compete there with the current crop of Japanese 600s already proving to be more than a
match for the Buells (largely due to the mega $ the japanese dump into the series) and a
new wave of them just around the corner on their usual 2 year development cycle.
