Good thinking.

You get the bike ready and I'll be busy making certain we get a rider over here.

Remind me to show you my shoe box full of "real solutions" that have ever come out of internet discussions.

Yep, so far the special STM clutches that they have custom made have failed, as have all other brands. And since not having a slipper clutch is not why Jeremy DNF'd, I have no idea why you are babbling. You certainly love to hear yourself talk.

"So far". That's rather telling. You claimed the slipper was worth at least a second a lap. If so, and you also knew the torque figure of your creation, wouldn't it have been pertinent to have the slipper developed ready and working in order for the 200? That's babbling?

Now while you rant on about your prowess and our stupidity, those of us who do rather than talk will get on about our business.

Well excuse me for not building my own brand of motorcycles. Excuse me for not racing at Daytona. Excuse me for buying the piece of shit that I've spent thousands on making it work properly since it left your plant. What's someone got to do to get respect around here? Worship at your temple and proclaim you beyond criticism?

Pete, you did this sometime ago and you're at it again. I made the effort to be friends, and here you are once again belittling me.

Man you're such a smart arse ain't ya. Tell you what, f**k off.

>>>>What's someone got to do to get respect around here?

Like so many things in life, it's a two-way street. Take a verbal dump on folks so many times they simply turn the volume down, most don't even read the posts and often the ones who do, do so just to taunt.

I'm personally reminded of the scene from War Games where the kids finally realizes "the only way to win is to not play the game".

As the collective naysayers come out to proffer their knowing lists of all the things Buell did wrong, there will be a neat group of folks listening, studying and learning from what went wrong, crafting a plan on what to change and putting that plan in motion.

I'll share with you a secret about winners, when they get their butt kicked, they get up, change what went wrong and just keep on keeping on. If I had to align myself, on a team, and had to choose between outright smarts and perseverance, give me the guy/gal with perseverance. I learned this in the military, but the lessons morph to civilian stuff just fine. Ask one of our confederates, who just returned from the Gulf, if while pinned down under fire he's want a really smart guy who scored 100% in marksmanship or a guy who refuses to give up and keeps fighting next to him.

Yeah...it's that way on the internet too.

While some folks busy themselves using the keen vision provided by hindsight, to criticize and second guess, I'd prefer to pound my tent stakes in the camp of those who are just nearly certain we can adjust that, adjust this, change a few things and go kick ass.

Ever really seen Peter be anything but nice? See the facts just don't support the story line.

Back next Wednesday. . in the meantime. .. enjoy.

Let's try not saying anything unless it is constructive or at least positive. Personal derision, whether against anonymous contributors or others is simply not welcome. Good grief.

Sean,
I think Peter's comment was not so much an attack against you, more a very pointed illustration that despite our best efforts and expertise and all good intentions, "stuff happens." Buell nor the Buell teams deserve a bitter pill beyond their own disappointment. Pretty sure they take the Daytona 200 setbacks to heart far more personally than any of us can imagine.

I for one expect them to solve the issues revealed by one of the most tortuous road races on the planet and come back for more and much better competitive efforts.

Talking of verbal dumping, you're pretty good at it yourself. If you or any of the other smart guys you speak of don't like what I say then you and they are welcome to take your advice, turn the volume down or move along. The great thing about the internet is there are those that don't want to. Maybe that's because they see some sense in what I say. But you'd have people believe the likes of me are just here to taunt. Fact is, you couldn't stand one honest to god criticism of anything Buell, but you're often caught slinging the muck at the Japanese, Ducati and KTM, yet in the next breath you're making out that you've high ranking friends amongst these same people. Didn't you once upon a time do some speech for Ducati in 1999? Man, you'd have us believe your sister married the bloody Pope.

Funny you mention War Games. I'm personally reminded of the scene where the kids finally realize "the only way to win is to not take a bigger knife to a gun fight without sharpening the blade first, then constantly berate the opposition for being too well prepared and over supplied".

Naysayers or not, "I'd expect no less than a neat group of folks listening, studying and learning from what went wrong, crafting a plan on what to change and putting that plan in motion".

That's no different than anyone else would do. Even the winners. But the way you talk you'd have it sound like Buell have some real special people working on some exclusive strategy that only Buell people can. That's why the likes of MV, KTM, BMW, Benelli and others have picked up the mantle and charged head first into selling motorcycles to exactly the sort of customers that might have bought or had previously owned a Buell. Buell are always talking it up. Good on 'em. But others are watching, listening, doing and selling too, and winning races.

I'll share with you a secret about winners, when they get their butt kicked, they get up, change what went wrong and just keep on keeping on.

Is this Buells future strategy in racing, coz last time I looked Buell nor HD had actually won any race recently. Were they actually in racing? Begs the question, when will they really sign up?

As for smarts against perseverance, funny I had you down for smarts. Now I'm confused.

I don't know what you learnt in the military though you've said before you never left home turf. Sorry, what war did you say you fought in? You were a marine right, but you spent your time playing in a big sand pit near San Diego? My Granddad killed people during the war, as did his brother too. My other Grandparents and my father as a small child were bombed out of their home. They were lucky to survive as they hadn't made the shelter. You sir pulled a cushty number. A marine who never saw active service, so please, don't pull the military crap on me.

While some folks busy themselves using the keen vision provided by hindsight, to criticize and second guess, I'd prefer to pound my tent stakes in the camp of those who are just nearly certain we can adjust that, adjust this, change a few things and go kick ass.

Can you provide a time frame for the above great event, as I've waited eight years too long myself. Care to wager it'll never happen in our lifetime?

Ever really seen Peter be anything but nice?

You mean subservient.

See the facts just don't support the story line.

Oh yes they do. He pisses in the same pot you and Aaron do, and that is the fact as to why he feels the need to ONLY ever take a pop at me.

Like I give a shit.

Crazy thread, for some reason I thought it might talk more about the failure of the parts on the bikes, not the failure of the team. Problems happen, if Buell could not get a clutch developed in time, well that happens.

You know, every time Buell has addressed a problem, the resulting solution exceeds what ever was necessary to the point that the problem never surfaces again.
Examples: the rotors on early S1s, S3s and M2s would loosen on the carriers and rattled horribly. Buell came out with a new rotor and carrier design that eliminated the problem; then sold the new rotors for about a third of what an aftermarket rotor would cost. I've never heard one of the new rotors rattle.
When the rear isolator problems surfaced, Buell first solved the problem, then redesigned the isolators so that they would never shear, but even if they did, the bike would still be rideable. Then they sold the kits for less than the price of one Harley isolator. The set on my M2 have over 35,000 miles on them.
There are other examples, but I think I've made my point.
Buell has identified the problem with the XBRRs. Once they solve it, it will never rear its head again. Then that technology will filter down to the street bikes. The XBRRs will go on to do well in FX and the new street bikes will work better and last longer.
Everybody wins!

Crusty:

The reason the NEW ROTOR/CARRIER is because the HARLEY-DAVIDSON TECHNICIANS did not know how to fix early ones !!!

The reason for the the NEW ISOLATORS is the isolators off the soft tail BIG TWIN
could not cut it if you weight is over 165
pounds and/or packed double !!!

The reason for the BLAST drive belt set up on the XB's is the HARLEY DAVIDSON TECHNICIANS still have not learned how to adjust the drive belt on a tube frames !!!

The BUELL RACING DEPARTMENT will eventually realize that Dick O'Brians adustment spec. on the primary chain was
correct ...

They will also figure out how to adjust the rear drive chain as if running
wide open on the BANKS at DAYTONA ...

AND THE TRICKLE DOWN TECH. WILL MAKE THE
STREET XB's safer, faster, and last longer !!!

Rocket, i have to let you know, that while they have won zero AMA road races and zero WSBK races, they have won several regional road races and flat track races, along with an AMA drag racing championship. So while they seem to allow Buell to head up the road racing end, they(HD) has there hand in several other very interesting forms of racing, i belive Buell also has more than road racing, just not sure how far($) they
help out however
Not trying to be down on Rocket, however give credit where credit is due
Funny, very funny

I criticized (no big deal in my opinion) the failing of components that lead to the XBRR not finishing the 200. I criticized Buell for not having the preparation in hand, given the temerity of entering the 200, and the resultant Anony posts here in way of explanation of those parts failing. I also made comments about some of the posts here being somewhat misleading in respect to the XBRR's (lack of??) achievement. But you already know this.

I thought my posts were within the bounds of reason. They were in no way offensive, and no way personal. I just spoke my mind. Might that upset some wasn't the point. Might I get some flack in return was perhaps a given. What happened with Anony came later.

So what's your point in all this, attempting to embarrass me? A friend would pick up the phone or email me if it were such a problem to them. But not you. Instead you offer up smug and condescending posts. You call yourself a friend? Don't make me laugh.

You'd have done better to come back with something constructive and take part in the topic proper? That would be a better way to combat my opinions wouldn't it?

Fragile ego ROTFLMFAO

Best you f**k off for good.

How do you justify pounding your chest about being as good as, if not a better than, engineer than Erik Buell, when you've shown people who come to this site, that you aren't?
If we were sitting in a pub, and that's more or less what these places are, cyber pubs, you'd have been ridiculed, as you were here, and asked to back it up, which you wouldn't, and then we'd have a laugh about it and keep on drinking.
