Qualifying has started for the 200 at Daytona, and currently Mike Ciccotto is fastest with a 1:42:03 ahead of DuHamel on 1:42:144.

The rest of the XBRR's are:

9. Pennzkofer
12. McWilliams
20. Crevier

8th is Northern Ireland's Alistair Seeley : ) Not bad for a pure roads racer.

Oh Sh*t, as I write this DiSalvo goes quickest : (

My mistake, it is practice and not qualifying yet.

Trojan,

Alastair is my wife's nephew, he is the current Irish Superbike champion. He is riding diSalvo's old bike.

We've been watching Alistair during the past few weeks, and are impressed with his speed. The bike helps, but there is no question this kid is fast, and anybody who can run the NW-200 is a "god" in my books!

Hope he does well, as long as he does not get too bored with the Daytona layout he should!

I went home for lunch and got to watch a bit of the Speedtv coverage. The 65 of Crevier was on the screen when I first turned on the tube. I was like WooHoo! Then they started in on Duhamel and such, but they did mention the Buell in the first couple of minutes.
Go Buell!

Wow. I know in this case it is probably more about the rider and not just the bike... but read that list in order by brand.

Qualifying by brand for the premier Daytona sportbike race for 2006:

1) Honda
2) Yamaha
3) Buell
4) Suzuki

Where is my "jaw drop" icon?

No matter what else happens... GOOD WORK ELVES!!!!!

The only guy I've not heard of who's in front of Jezza is Ryan L Andrews. That is an impressive list of names Jezza's snapping at the rear wheels of.

Now I'm BUELL excited.

Don't sweat the qualifying times too much. The 200 is a race of attrition.
You can't win if you don't finish. The race pace will not be any faster than McWilliams is running now.
I think they are doing quite well especially when you consider the developement time involved.

Go Buell!!

Oh yeah.. really excited to see the XBRR on the track.. I'm watching on DVR right now..

What I found interesting is one of the commentators saying that the founders of this race didn't really intend to make it a 600 series race.. and that the same sort of drama occured when Ducati brought their 999 on the table..

go buell go!

The class was intended to be a place for the 250 2-strokes to run against the il4 600s.
Unfortunately the 2-strokes just aren't capable of running with the factory 600s.

Obviously I think the Buells are a breath of fresh air in the mix. In most classes the rules do
largely dictate which configuration of bike will dominate. Japan Inc. are worried about the Buells.

Not bad, not bad at all. Straight out of the box, against intense competition, the Buells are well up in the field, and those lap times are good. This is going to be good, oh yes...

even in the supersport race the race pace is closer to the 1:43 mark, 2 sec slower than qualifying.
I expect the race pace during the 200 to be similar. Should be no problem maintaining that,
as long as the guys get good starts and the pit stops go well.

Amazing indeed Court, but being a dumb Englis.......... Nah, truth be told, I'm a realist and it's hard to share the intense enthusiasm of my American friends toward the Buell given the natural 'barriers' present. In case you didn't notice, I didn't fill my boots when Triumph won the TT a couple of years ago either. Wishing not to be offensive, us Brit's don't show our patriotism in the same manner as you guys over the pond, so cut me a little slack please LOL.

Our racing series, as has been discussed, is not in any way similar really to anything US at this level where the XBRR is allowed to compete. Daytona to us Brit's has little to do with any racing that's enough to get our blood up.

Now the XBRR is looking competitive I'm warming to the idea of a big cc V twin pushrod motor going up against those $350000 Japanese screamers, and I just might be wondering the streets of Yorkshire at 3am come Saturday, looking for a homestead with Sky TV. Put it another way. I see from several thousand miles away, 1350cc being fair game against three hundred and fifty thousand large!

Like Brian sez, it's about race pace. I don't know if the XBRR can hold Jezza's pace for 200 miles but if anyone can try it has to be Jezza, and I don't mind anyone beating the Japanese when it comes to racing motorcycles. Could this mean a one man Rocket party come the early hours of Saturday?

Rocket

maybe just me but did anyone notice the frontent on McWilliams bike looking downright sketchy ? I know everybody is pushing their bikes to the traction limits but his bike just kept looking like th frontend was going to tuck under. Didn't see any closeups of any of the other guys maybe it's just 999s style.

Alastair Seeley is not a pure road racer he normally rides short circuits in Ireland. He rode the NW200 reputedly for promotional purposes. In my opinion he's a sensible guy and a great rider and I suspect after his Daytona heroics on a private bike we won't see too much more of him at Mondello Kirkistown etc

"Mladin Dominates Daytona Superbike Qualifying, While Buell Struggles in Daytona 200 Qualifying"

Motorcycle Daily evidently has a grudge against Buell or something. This is the first frigging word they've mentioned of the XBRR despite about 3 official press releases on the bike and all the hoopla at several other motorcycle sites.

Well, screw 'em. I upgraded to digital cable and hooked up the box this morning JUST so I can watch the 200 tomorrow.

GO BUELL!!!
