The problems were all primary drive related. Rico and Cicotto both had clutch inner hub problems, McWilliams had the timing wheel loosen from the front primary sprocket, and Crevier reported a primary chain issue. The driveline was taking a hammering from tire chatter going into corners -- something that would have been eliminated if we had gotten a slipper clutch finished in time. We tested one up to qualifying, but it wasn't consistent enough -- yet -- to run. The slipper also made the bike quicker; Jeremy picked up almost a second a lap with it.
There was no problem with Jeremy's front brake other than having the pads pushed back when the unmounted wheel cocked as the bike fell off the stand. It took several pumps of the lever to get the pads back against the disk. The disk that came off at that tire change looked great, and Jeremy was happy with brake performance.
The 4.4 gallon capacity was a problem at Daytona; it dicated a three-stop strategy, which could have been avoided if we had the maximum 5.0 gallon capacity.
The best news was the engines were strong, the top speed competitive with the best Japanese 600s, and the acceleration off turns outstanding. Both Jeremy's and Rico's engines were running better and better as the race went on -- until the primary drive issues surfaced. |

I hope they do better in the next races, Im sure they will.
It takes track time to find out what needs to be re-worked. The XbRR's will come on stronger in due time  |

Anony, thanks much for this info. I guess it just goes to show that sometimes no matter how much testing you do, it takes an actual race to find the last few weak points. I'll bet it won't take you guys long to sort this stuff out. |

us here at liberty hd buell still can't wait to get ours.
its a long season and i'm sure that if the xbrr runs up front will be hearing about the rules once again. its a long season! |

I cant say im not bummed about the finish, it would have been nice to finish with a bike in the top 10. Having said that it was AWESOME to have Buells in the race. I have never watched the Daytona 200 on TV, today was the first time. I will be following now that we have some Buells to watch. How about a factory team? Why dont we have one and when are we going to get one. |

Knowing very little about Formula Extreme racing, and this being the first Daytona 200 I've ever watched, my question is - when do we next get to see buells race again?

this was my first race to watch also, and with the wreck of whats his name and getting back up and finishing the race was one of the most amazing things i ever saw. to be honest, i didnt think buell would be in the top ten so i was really impressed, and now that i read what the problems were, i know that things should be sorted out soon, and i know that the slipper clutches are a big factor from what i have read. i will follow the races now that i have a reason to watch, and i hope the underdogs do well, i myself dont need first place finishes. just being in the top ten and hearing people cry and moan that we are there is good enough for me. |

I was impressed with Jeremy's performance. I was disappointed that a Buell wasn't in the top five since they got almost no mention or video coverage throughout the race. In fact, one of the few times they were seen was due to being the first to pit. For that, I reckon the 4.4-gal capacity was worth something. I sure hope it gets better from here. |

I'm not berrating Buell's efforts at the 200 in the least. I pretty much expected the results, which is a bummer for me. I wanted the XB's to at least finish the race. That in itself would have been a major victory.
I'm really hoping Buell get their act together in the future. It would be awesome to see them competetive in FX...
BTW..."what's is name" who crashed was Miguel DuHamel...eight-time AMA national champion. He won the Daytona 200 five times in 1991, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2005

Cool - info makes sense.
However, it didn't look like he could make it on three pits stops - he came in on what, lap 20, and then 36, so it would have had to have been 56 or so and then 76 or finish with no rear and potentially wad it? 4 stops would have negated all efforts - how was all this mapped out? What were the planned stop lap numbers? |

I saw that Jeremy is not on the "final list" of MotoGP racers. Is this good news for Buell fans?
I sure hope Jeremy and the Warrs team continues the season. It was great to see the Buells mixing it up!
How many of the teams will continue the season?? And which ones?
The Daytona results were not what I had hoped for, but they were nothing to be ashamed of.
We had 3 bikes in the top 15 for a good portion of the race, and one in the top 9 for better than half of it.
The future of Buell racing looks bright! |

They never put these motors through durability testing?
I thought the race was 88 laps - I need to get glasses - thinking it was 88 I thought their pitstop strategy was not going to work, but at 68 I see it would work now.
I thought for sure they ran these motors all day and night WFO to see what breaks, and then address that and do it again. |

even if they did, it may not have exposed the problem the had with a non-slipper clutch leading to primary failures. Nascar teams have or have access to a engine dyno that is programed to simulate laps at different tracks. That is, they accelerate, decelerate and change speed/load in a manner very similar to being on the actual track.
Without that kind of testing (and even to a degree with it) there is no way to really know what disaster is waiting to happen until you've actually raced the race.....
Chances are they were aware of the potential problem but ran out of time to address it |
