Honda Sôichirô, November 17, 1906–August 5, 1991

I believe this fella was dead when Rocket said he was at the race.

If so, that WAS a pretty neat trick.

Yes, it does appear Mr. Honda was in fact, dead, when this anniversary took place.

Pretty cool, no?

Erik will never top that!

"And man am I happy. The world is my oyster this year. Trust me. "
Then you darn well better show up at next year's Daytona! Word!

i'm no motorcycle expert. i can't quote anyone famous about bikes or races. i can't make references to racing history.

but i have a buell, my first bike ever, and i enjoy riding it. i think that by buell entering the world of racing i stand a better chance of seeing aftermarket parts, or new models, that will apeal to me in dealerships. heck, maybe the dealership that i bought my bike from will start selling buells again. i would love to see more people interested in buying buell bikes. it is a shame that the bikes weren't able to finish the race. i felt a little embarassed even. but i do understand that it was buells first run at it, and i hope not there last. i am optimistic that i'll see better and better results the more races i watch.

i see good comments in many posts here. i like hearing from mr. anony. and i also like hearing what rocket has to say. the best conversation is a conversation where people can say what they feel like, even if it is an unpopulat statement.

More of Rocket's truths I guess. Let's see, top 5 reasons to roll on the floor laughing every time Rocket posts: 5) Soichiro Honda rose from the dead to eat a hamburger with his customers while Erik sits in an ivory tower, 4)Peter Clifford is paying for MotoGP out of his own pocket, 3) Foggy is out racing WSB, I guess out of his own pocket...no wait what is that word petronas doing on the bike?, 2) the Ducati 851 went from drawing board to total world domination in 18 months, and (drum roll) #1) given Erik's money the Rocketman himself would have built the parts to win Daytona, and no doubt would have rode it himself!

Can we please stop making out that Mr Buell is some kind of celebrity hero who has an unusual habit of talking to his minion's.

I just have to preface this by saying that I enjoy reading Rocket's posts, and some of those red stars came from me. However, I have to disagree with him about this.

Sure, talking with the minions isn't an unusual habit, but for someone to do it as often as he does is freakishly rare IMHO. I have personally seen the guy spend an entire day talking to anyone and everyone who cared to say hello. Just considering the stories the folks on this board have contributed over the years, leaves me with a solid impression of the man. It seems you'd be hard pressed to find somebody, in a similar position, thats as down to earth as he is.

Excuse me for generalizing "Mr Honda's" name. I guess the fella that showed up at the Island was the forklift truck driver. Or do you really expect me to remember some Japanese guys name when he doesn't bother to come and play in mine or my friends back gardens?

Peter Clifford puts a lot of his own personal funding into the WCM team.

Foggy is running a race team that I believe he said himself has about four million pounds of his own money invested. Knowing Foggy, that could be bull shit. Whether it says Foggy or Petronas on the bike it does not say Harley Davidson or Buell. That's because they aren't investing anything in WSB. At least Petronas are.

What's this about Ducati's 851? The 851 was not Ducati's first 8 valve engine, which is what I assumed you were referring to. Anyway, that honour went to the Ducati I spoke of yesterday, and it won Daytona BoT at its first attempt, some 6 months or so after its first ever race. Have the decency to realize though, that 6 months represented the winter lay off. Man will you quit moving the goal posts LOL. You're right though, the 851 Superbike did suffer from reliability issues, in the engine and the electrics in particular, and its first season 1987 was a bit of a disappointment. That said, it won the first ever race in WSB at the 1988 season opener. Given that it became the 888 Superbike in 1989, the 851 was only around for about 18 months in total, but despite only coming third in the 1988 WSB championship it was the dominant force that season.

I can't comment on your last point, less I fall into the same trap as your good self. I reserve bragging rights for my anonymous rantings. Oh wait, unlike you I don't have that privilege!

El Rockeeto said, "Can we please stop making out that Mr Buell is some kind of celebrity hero who has an unusual habit of talking to his minion's." Rocket, I still love you, but you're getting plain crazy here.

I'll share my "Erik story"...I first met Erik at the Rocky Point ASBN dinner at last year's Laguna Seca. AFter a long session of shaking hands, doing power point presentations (that's plural), and doing a LOT OF question and answer stuff, etc, etc...I noticed that he was the LAST person to leave after me, my wife, and my pal Augie. As it turns out, Augie (who I helped find a 99 S3T for) had brought some cigars and as we walked out to the parking lot with Erik in the pitch black, I said, "Hey Erik,..you like cigars?"

Well, he hung out with us (Kirtsen stayed in the car due to the chill air and smoke) and smoked cigars and chatted with us for at least an hour. Very approachable, very interested on the Buell scene and Buellers. I really met the man in that hour. He could have been doing a lot of other things that night. It was certainly convenient for him to make use of the concentrated availability of writers and industry folks at Laguna instead of hanging out with us three Buellers. Nope...he is for real, Buell MC is for real, and they treat their customers like members of their club....and it's quite a club we have. It comes from the top.

Ok Jon, try this.

Can we just accept that Mr Buell is a human being just like anyone else. Just like you and I, he likes to attend garden parties where Dorito's are in full flow and the beer's not too warm. Oh yeah, he enjoys the occasional Cohiba too.
?

Hey Rocket, it would be much better for you to simply admit an error when you make one. It builds credibility, something you seem to be frittering away lately.

Come back to the light and stick to the FACTS!
