Am I the only person who thinks that Pascal Picotte belongs in the AMA. What the heck is up with these factory teams? He is in the top ten on a Canadian spec SuperSport!! |

Pascal's reputation, as far as I know, was that he was on any given day or lap the fastest guy in the AMA. However, he just wasn't consistent enough with his immense talent back in his AMA days.

Not too shabby for McWillams, just under 2.5 off DiSalvo and he only ran 11 laps. Gotta wonder if they have any tricks left for tomorrow for qualifying? |

Does Pirelli have special Daytona compound race tires? Dunlap always goes all out with special tires (race & qual)special made for the 200; an advantage to the teams lucky enough to get them. |

I know in the old days they had hard left sides and soft right sides for Daytona, not so sure that persists today. |

Comment on the Buell from superbikeplanet.com:
The best Buell runner in the first Daytona FX session of the weekend was Jeremy McWilliams, with a 1:44.065, more than 2.5 seconds slower than Yamaha's Jason DiSalvo. The paddock consensus is that DiSalvo will push the 1:40.0 barrier with a qualifying tire.
That is a lot of time to make up for the Buell. A pretty grim reality if one hoped the XB12R would be a contender from the beginning, but not a bad starting point if this is is a long-term project to be developed over several seasons. |

Jeremy McWilliams was only 11th fastest but to his credit his laps were more consistant then some other riders who cut a faster lap. Also he only was out for 13 laps compared to 20+ some of the others ran.
Steve Crevier was slower then I expected but he was only out for six laps. |

What is every bummed 'cause we are not as fast as DeSalvo so they don't post?
Awfully quiet here.
11th is OK. One thing to note McWilliams is getting faster, and by a good bit every time he takes the track. I think his time in this practice was almost a second faster that the vintage race times(or I coud be dreaming). If he gets a second tomorrow and then one for Saturday he is in the 1:42's. Considering that I think he can run whatever fast time he gets for lap after lap he could be in the front group.
Lots of hotshoes out there who will not be consistent for 10 miles much less 200 miles.
My prediction, he qualifies in the low 1:43 range, take a second out of that if they have qualifiers, and he will run a lot of race laps right at 1:43. If the bike can stand that pace and he gets good pit stops....top 5. |

Obviously everyone is still getting their bike sorted out. They all put in very few laps, which means they were coming in very often for tweaks. Hopefully they can put their heads together this evening. Practice has just started and McWilliams is in the top ten so far. |

Barney is out of the 200 with a knee injury. McWilliams is currently 2.75 sec behind DiSalvo. |

I think evening practice may have just wrapped up. Crevier got the most laps in at a mere 11.

Curiously Picotte isn't listed, i wonder if he is sitting out in order to assist Crevier with setup? Couldn't he just sneak his way onto the bike?

Is anyone esle impressed by McWilliams? What was he 1:48 on Friday and he is 1:44 now. He has a few dozen laps on the track, only a few more on the bike, it is unlike anything he has ever raced and unlike any track he has ever raced on and he is over a second faster than the next Buell. |

They didn't seem very concerned about being so far behind. None of them turned more than a handful of laps. McWilliams is the only one that even looks as if he stands a chance, and then only if some of the Hondas and Yamahas break, or if they have a special strategy like fewer pit stops or something. |

Very impressed - I am sure an air-cooled v-twin is unlike anything he has ridden before. If he can trim a second of that time and if it'll hold together for the whole 200 - I think we got a chance for a podium. |

"yea, but . . ." he's 13th so far. Progress, good showing etc. doesn't matter. Only results matter and the only result that matters is a win. Top 5? Zzzzzzzzzzz -
I'll enjoy watching the race but anything less than 1st is a loss, no two ways about that. And loosing sucks, so watching these times is bummin me out, improvement or not.
Maybe I got my hopes up too high - it has been pointed out that these bikes are substantially similar to Hal's XB's in the homologation debate, so I don't know why I started thinking these were some super new weapon. But I did and now it's not looking so good. I somehow thought this would happen overnight which is not realistic given the level of the competition.

I'm a little disappointed but it's not over yet by a long shot. The bike has competitive power and aerodynamics but if you can't put all the power to the pavement the lap times suffer. They must realy be struggling to find a good setup. Two 600 super sport bikes went 1:41's today on DOT tires which proves HP isn't everything.
McWilliams is a great rider and Buell is lucky to have him if only for Daytona.
The Buell's turned so few laps today that it makes me wonder if they used today more for test then practice? |

I shouldn't be so down, for all my talk about nothing but winning matters I can't help but be impressed that these guys are racing a motor that shares genes with my 883. They may be distant cousins, but they've come a long way in a relatively short amount of time.
And before anyone gets chaffed at my comments, know that I am on board. I am bummed not scoffing. Just seeing em on the grid will boost my attitude I'm sure. |

Looking at these numbers, don't forget that it was strongly implied (if not stated outright) that Buell was going for the "steady wins the race" strategy, as opposed to having the fastest one-lap bike out there. Yea, we'd all like to see the XBRR's setting a blistering pace at this point, but it would be pretty dumb for them to show all their cards at this point, especially if the bike turns out to be that fast. |

I say show em if you got em - practice like you race! I seriously doubt anything at all is being held back, but I am no pro, so I guess we'll see. 200 miles, that is one loooong dang race - .2 seconds per lap is debilitating over that distance.
Remember the Harley pitstop fiasco that killed Picotte's good run? I wanted to put my head in the wall. I hope we are dialed in there . . . |

This is just the begining for Buell fans. I think we all knew that it would be a long shot for Buell to win at Daytona. We have a whole season to become a winner and I really think that Buell will win a few races. It would be great if Buell does fool everyone and wins Daytona. |
