BOT FORMULA 1:
1. Gianfranco Guareschi (M-G)
2. Dario Marchetti (Duc)
3. Jeff Jones (Hon)
4. Mike Ciccotto (Buell XB-RR)
5. Jeremy McWilliams (Buell XB-RR)
6. Jonathan Glaefke (Suz)
DNS: Dan Bilansky (Buell XB-RR), Rico Penzkofer (Buell XB-RR), Steve Crevier (Buell XB-RR)

Oh,oh! This doesn't look so good! If they can't win in this class, what can we expect from the FX race? That Guzzi MGS/01 seems to be pretty quick. I wonder if they are going to allow it in FX. That was the original plan, I recall, before the bankruptcy two years ago. If they can't find a few seconds between now and Saturday they aren't going to be running with the leaders.

Any idea what tires they were running?

I don't want to be accused of guzzling the Kuell-Aid, but I think that until the checkers drop we just won't know.

I think they were actually racing the XBRR Ulysses model in that race, that would explain the knobbies!

The Buell dealer teams were running the AHRMA races to sort some issues, mostly with the fuel injection map. They spent a lot of the day running a couple of laps, stopping on pit lane, dumping a new map in, then sending their XBRR back out -- and the races weren't much differently. The XBRRs were entered late to gain additional testing time, by the grace of AHRMA, and their chief tech inspector mentioned that it would be nice if we didn't crush the competition. McWilliams was opening up 5 seconds a lap on Gianfranco Guareschi (M-G)and Dario Marchetti (Duc) when Jeremy pulled in for a map change. If he had continued he would have won by 20+ seconds. His bike had had a hiccup in the midrange, though that didn't stop him from turning a 1:44.67 on race tires.

I don't see a problem with those results in the first post. In the top 6, there were one each of everybody of M-G (?) one Honda and one Suzuki and 2 Buells. Damn pretty good averages.

I KNEW IT! Ciccotto trailed in behind the Honda! Those bloodsucking Honda umbrella girls have him for sure.

Blake,

Those umbrella girls are our umbrella girls. We have had them at ASBN a couple of times. They are from the Bay Area, and they don't belong to Honda.

One of them took a Buell XB9 out with Reg Kittrelle.

BTW, that wasn't even Cicotto on that bike. The rider slowed down so he wouldn't have to be on the podium.

Not to say that improper umbrella girl behavior might not buy Honda some positions. I have it on good account that such approaches would be given due consideration by XBRR riders, and the excellence of the girls' performance would be evaluated against finishing position.

Jim,

It's a very shrewdly engineered plot I tell ya. Their in cahoots with the enemy.

Anony,
Egads! Sounds like we need a chaperone! How do you keep Honda girls away from a Buell racer?

Easy fix for Honda Girls fixing race results.
I see Blake in a Honda outfit with apropiate wig causing all sorts of confusion in the Honda ranks. Go get them Blake.

My thanks go to Anony as well for the good oil on what's going, good luck on the 11th we are having a Daytona party down here in Oz for the LSR racers staying with us, if we drink enough you just might here us cheering above those thundering twins.

I got a call from Paul in Australia last night and, based on that conversation and the fact that he and FMJH will be partying together during the Daytona 200, I think Daytona is about the proper distance to be from Oz.

We've already arranged telephone updates!

This is going to be good!

Now the Buells are slowing down so they don't have to be on the Podium?! I don't know, but this is sounding a little far fetched. Who are you Anonymous? Why not us your real name? I believe about half of what you post. Then I believe half of that.
Get serious! Slowing down... what a load.

The Buells were at the vintage races for testing, not to take trophies away from people just there for fun, and were ridden accordingly. We're shooting for bigger game.

The Buell did the exact same thing DeSalvo did on his Yamaha Sunday. He had the race won by a huge margin and pulled into the pits on the last lap to take a DNF.

It is a Daytona tradition; the amateurs are happy to let the big boys come to play but they really appreciate it if you don't take home the silverware. After all you are getting paid to race next weekend not win trophies in the amateur races.

This month's Cycle World says Steve was specifically hired as the "Platform Manager" for the XBRR.

Is that cool, or what?

BTW, Cycle World also has a long article by Peter Egan doing a long ride on a Ulysses through the mountains of Virginia. Nice write-up.

And SteveA is about as "from the horse's mouth" as you can get it.

Look, I wouldn't mind shooting some hoops with Wilt the Stilt, but when it comes time to "dunk for dollars" my thinking is that his status pretty well tilts the playing field.

There is no substitute, particularly at this stage of the game and with new players, for TRACK TIME.

But...fair is fair.

Yeah M-1, you're right. I don't understand racing. I forget. Put a race kit on your bike and you become a race expert. Been racing Motocross since Age 7 and am a CCS Licensed racer...but I know nothing. Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Sorry for the insult, but really... that comment WAS a bit over the top. Why SHOULD the XBRR's take the podiums from the other guys when they're just there to get some more practice time? Makes perfect sense to me... Sounds like the honorable thing to do if you ask me.

Anyway, sorry... That comment just struck a chord with me. My bad. I should have been a bit more tactful with my reply.

No biggie. I understand practice time is needed and precious. Just seems risky to the other riders to be out there half assing it when they're taking it seriously as a race.

"Just seems risky to the other riders to be out there half assing it when they're taking it seriously as a race."

Actually, the risk is the reverse. Pro riders don't half ass it, and their speeds during testing are far higher than those of most of the club racers. It's the slow backmarkers who have enough reserve cornering capacity left to suddenly take an odd line that present the risk.

Now, I don't race.. never have.. but this is just a thought..

If I was on the track with the likes of McWilliams and Cicotto et. al. I'd be terrified. I mean, with the speeds they will be running, if I make a small mistake, and run wide, or some such.. and they are counting on me holding a predictable line so they can pass me.. Ouch!

I've been on the track with a couple of very fast individuals. Their advice. Hold my line, Ride within my limts,no matter what. They will pass me just fine. I did my best. They did.. easily.
