To bad for Rico - any inside info?

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=25175

Personally I would take a DNF over a DNS (Did not Start) any day.

Rico smoked the clutch with a drag race start, WOT and using the clutch all the way to turn one. Can't do it at Daytona, especially after a bunch of practice starts, which are tough with the tall gearing and a 5 speed. Lesson learned; he won't do it in the 200.

Bilanski had a half lap lead and lost the motor. Don't know what went. Estok smoked his clutch in that race also, he muffed the start with a wheelie, got over excited and did the clutch slip to turn one. Bye bye clutch. BMW goes from 3rd to 1st. That's racing.

Looks to me that Buell had a pretty good day overall. A few seconds. And they could rename the thunderbike class to the Buell class.

BadWeBr Walt Sipp takes two 2nd places!!! One in LW GP and one in CCS Thunderbike! WOOOHOOO WAY TO GO WALT!!!! OUTSTANDING!!

He is reported to have crashed out on lap 10 of the ASRA Thunderbike race. Hope Walt is okay.

And Anthony Caligiuri bags a 2nd place in LW GP amateur. Way to go Tony!

Bemisderfer, Rozynski, Jeff Johnson, and Paul James swept from 2nd thru 5th place in ASRA Thunderbike.

Congrats to Nate Kern on his tricked out BMW R1100S. Seeing that bike win a race like that is very impressive. I'm sure the BMW fans are jumping for joy as well they should be.

For sure a GIANT "Thank You!" to anonymous for keeping all us hungry fans nourished with the trackside information.

Congrats to Walt, way to go! And Rico on Saturday! Very good beginning.

Daytona is a brutal place, DNF's are going to happen. The XBRR is brand new and will most definitely take some time to sort out.
I'm sure what was learned this weekend will help for the Daytona 200.

GO BUELL RACING!

I agree with that. There's something about the BMW that captures kinda the sort of spirit that fuels the Elves. In addition, my hats off the the BMW folks for showing up, knuckling down and facing while some of the folks are busy whining.

Congratulations to the BMW team.

Thanks for the congratulations. I actually didn't run the CCS Thunderbike race. I didn't get to the track until Sunday morning so I had no track time. I did finish 2nd in the LWGP race. I had to start at the back of the ASRA Thunderbike race (because I didn't qualify. I made it up to 2nd place by lap 8 passing Bemisderfer and Rozynski. I crashed however in the same place I did last year. Not sure what happened, maybe I used up the tires trying to get to the front. Oh well, I still finished 9th.

Would we be too far off imagining that next to the clause "ride it like you stole it" in the road racer's lexicon is a picture of Walt on his Buell race bike?

From last to 2nd place at Daytona! Dude! That is impressive. You no more crash though, okay! : )

I really don't remember much about the race. I didn't even know where I was at until I only saw one guy in front of me. I was just so focused on getting to the front. My lap timer showed an 1:51.05 on the penultimate lap, then I crashed. All things considered I should be happy, but as a racer you always want to win. Sometimes win at all cost.

Nate got a great grid position, and then the lead fell in his lap when Bilanski lost his motor.

Don't feel bad Walt, I was rooting for you, You did great, especially considering the lack of practice time.

For those that don't know, Walt got there sunday morning. Everyone else had been there practicing since thursday or friday.

BTW I hope someone got video of Bilanski's motor going. It was very dramatic, smoke and flames out of the fairing at about the start/finish line.

Walt, congratulations on a great run through the field! You know, it was a Suzuki that dropped oil in JUST THAT SPOT that made you go down. ;)

On to the next round, and better luck next time!
