Yes I know that but what we are talk'n about here to my understanding is FX and that would have been Barnes the last rider for Kosco.

There appears to be no more "Kosko" team as of current knowledge. Team Manager, Richard Cronrath's team is now sponsored by some different dealerships, three of 'em two with the same owner though.

Alright, this is getting overwhelming. Since nobody else took up my (& BigDaddy's) request, I'm gonna try to summarize what's been said here about the 2006 Buell Formula Xtreme effort:

(1) Motor Cycle News has reported Michael Rutter and Jeremy McWilliams did secret testing for Buell in preparation for the Daytona 200.
(2) Court has said don't miss Daytona if you're a Buell fan and has dropped several other hints. Glitch and possibly others have echoed this sentiment.
(3) An anonymous poster stated "Tripp Nobles has been spotted in SoCal with an as-yet unidentified Buell. Longer swingarm and unfamiliar engine sidecases were noted." (It was implied in following posts that this annony poster does not work for Buell.)
(4) The winter dealer meeting is reportedly in Dallas, TX this coming weekend (Jan. 21-22) and big announcements may or may not be made (depending on who you believe).
(5) According to a post by Diablobrian, in the Jan 06 brit bike mag PB (performance bikes), Michael Rutter is quoted as saying: "I've been over in the US riding a bike, but I can't tell you anything about that yet, except that the trip coincided with the tornado"
(6) There are two very interesting posts in the guestbook on Jeremy McWilliams' website by none other than Hals crew chief Terry Galagan and Glen Veatch of Buell R&D.
(7) We had this post by mutationracer under a separate thread: "I just got done watching the satellite feed at our dealership liberty hd buell n.j. and there is a new bike that we will be laying are eyes on at next weeks winter dealer meeting in t.x.( they had the bike covered up with a cloth in blue) I have a feeling it is a RACE READY BUELL. At least thats what we HOPE!"
(8) Lastly, this news release was posted: "CLASSIC HARLEY-DAVIDSON/BUELL, MILLVILLE HARLEY-DAVIDSON/BUELL AND INNOVATIVE MOTORCYCLE RESEARCH SIGN MIKE HALE TO RACE AMA FORMULA XTREME"

Have I left any crucial posts or other info out?

Well if its true that Tripp Nobles was spotted that would mean if indeed he is riding FX that would be a Tilley's bike. Pretty good relationship between Tripp and Don Tilley.

Your right Blake about Kosko but I think they are still in F-USA

Tripp can still be found, on a near daily basis, at Tilleys. When was he 'seen' in SoCal?

I talked to Tripp Friday, Don is not running the Buell this year, I think he's on the Drag racing deal as of now...That's all I know...

Thanks for the heads up Kevin. I wonder if he could ride for someone else and if he can do both FX and Drag without schedules crossing?? I bet not.

From MCN's website.......

November 9 2005

Rutter signs for Stobart

Michael Rutter will ride a Honda Fireblade in the 2006 British Superbike championship, but it will be for Stobart motorsport rather than his former employers at HM Plant.

The 32-year-old will ride alongside Michael Laverty, and will also compete in the International North West 200 and 2006 Macau Grand Prix.

Rutter is a double BSB runner-up, with 25 wins to his name. He is also an 11-time North West 200 winner, one-time TT winner and five-time Macau GP winner

Mike Ciccotto also showed up in Daytona right after the CCS Races in October. Who knows what for, but if there was a Buell to be ridden he'd be on it.

Here's another thought. Now that we have established that Buell and McWilliams have been in contact and that a test ride of some sort almost certainly took place, does anyone think that this may point to a true factory team? McWilliams raced in BSBK last year and MotoGP the years before. This guy would have to command a serious factory price tag. What do you guys think? When will things be announced one way or the other?

No factory team. But I'll say that Factory developed engines would be more like it with dealer sponsored riders. Thats the way its been and thats the way it'll most likely stay for now.

Could it be a possibility that Buell just wanted some riders they respect to take a spin and give some feedback?

That's probably a possibility BS... The McWilliams thing is really making a good deal of sense at this point though, and I'm sure Ciccotto will be around as well. Wasn't Mike the guy that did most of the development test riding for Buell with the XB frame?

McWilliams spent most of last season not racing due to injury mostly.

Rutter did indeed win Macau 05. The above post from MCN pre dated Macau 05. Rutter is a 6 times winner.

No M1 Mike may have been around for some testing but Shawn Higbee is the factory test rider for R&D.

Don't know about that statement of Buell not having a factory team.Erik has always wanted to go racing, just wanted to do it properly--maybe it's time.

its not like HD don't have the profits to pony up!

more record earnings incredible earnings considering the opposition being so damn strong & heavy these days .. what w/ joe everyman being a custom builder & all the japs making killer clones & damn, even polaris ...

buell racing .. if ducati can do it, hd-buell can .. get porsche involved again (who says they ain't anyways) & design a very light water-cooled oversquare beast.

lighten that damn frame up some more ..

if buell don't cease the day, ktm (now 24% owned by polaris) fo' sho' will!

ktm are in motogp (well, were) & have the resources, experience at trackracing (250's/125's) to really do some damage ..

come to think of it .. polaris cruisers w/ ktm's high revving racing (dirt & road) plus ktm's interest in creating its first streetbike (superduke, naked) & their prototype race rep ...

oh man, buell NEEDS to get on it .. think how cool that wld be .. but, polaris are american, right (?) .. ktm austrian & own WP suspension. they already have everything they need to smash ducati's off the block if they just put their focus there .. & buell well, they have the rich uncle .. problem is rich uncle is obese & far too short-sighted & proudly traditional at the expense of being relevant ..

not that a nice big old hog don't make a cool saddle.

hey .. just a thought .. indian are trying to make like a phoenix agin .. be neat to see them reinvent themselves as twin sportbike maker .. may as well, they seem to be doomed to fail at staying alive in hogtown??!

HD has the profits yes to do it and makes that decision but Buell is its own Business and has to afford that. I'm a business owner and have to make my own financial decisions but if I had two I would not let the one support the other unless hell I could write it off as a complete business expense.

Kinda cool to go back and look at the answer I provided, niegh on this time last year, when the pundits were decrying Buell for not racing and HD for not anting up the funds.

Some of it was guessjecture. Who'd have guess, mostly by accidnetaiouness, I'd have nailed it.

We'll see.

Whatever happens, there'll be a group of us who dreamt, 16 years ago, of watching Buells at Daytona......right there cheering whatever on.
