McWilliams is a racer for all seasons, and a journeyman.

On a Buell it would be fair to say he'd be the best racer yet ever to ride one.

Yes, I just read the same Road Racing World article on Mike Hale riding a Buell in FX this year. Last I heard, he was trying to get a ride on an Aprilia in Superbike, then Aprilia went bust.

I don't know about that Rocket.Barnes now taking Haskovacs place is doing one hell of a job keeping the likes of Duhamel amd Zemke busy all year last year. The real strike against Barnes is his age. But he's proving he has what it takes right now. Man though the guy smokes like a chimney.... one after another. I wonder if he quit??

Hey Dana,
Look at it as a potential bonus.....he may be exactly the kind of racer a cigarette company is looking to sponsor.
I crack me up

Hey as a ex-smoker of almost 4 years and a easy 2 1/2 a day habit for the life of me I don't know how that guy is even breathing mid way through a race?? Gotta hand it to him though. Met him at Road America the year he rode the Kosko bike and then again at Daytona last year he was riding a privateer Yamaha what a nice guy and very approachable.

I have it on good authority (he told me himself) Graham Dyson, yes he of Barton fame, suggested to Barry Sheene he drill a hole in the chin portion of his full face helmet so he could have one last drag on the starting grid. Of course, typical of Sheene, he did exactly that, and there are photo's with fag inserted in said hole to prove it somewhere.

Another great pre-Buell invention then

Joey Dulop was a very heavy smoker. His manager would have a lit cigatette at ready when he finished a race. The helmet woudl come off and in would go the cig. Wouldn't even get off the bike first. 2 hours of the senior must have been tough.

I just found a few interesting tidbits on the AMA Superbike site regarding proposed rules changes for 2006. The first one is almost certainly aimed to help the Buell XB's:

Proposal 1

The maximum fuel tank capacity for Formula Xtreme motorcycles in the Daytona 200 is 19 liters (5.02 gallons) as determined by the AMA Pro Racing’s official testing equipment. OEM tanks must be utilized but may be modified to achieve the maximum capacity. Modifications to the fuel cap area for the installation of a single internal venting quick-fill coupler are also permitted. Fuel tanks modified in this manner may be used in all Formula Xtreme events throughout the season in place of the standard fuel tank. Aftermarket fuel tanks are not permitted.

Twin-cylinder air-cooled motorcycles are allowed modified OEM tanks or an auxiliary tank to achieve the maximum capacity.

This regulation is designed to help equalize the competition of the various brands of motorcycles competing in the Daytona 200.

"Hey Jeremy, it was a pleasure to meet you and Drew. Thanks for the cold medicine, I think if I were to drink a few more of those Hot Irish whiskey's my cold would have been gone for sure. Hope we get to work together in the future. Glen Veatch Buell R&D"

Looks like we may have a winner...

So...

What about Rutter? Is he still looking for a ride? Six Macau GP wins and experience in the IOM... I still think that given some rules allowing the XB the Buell could do very well on the Isle... Almost as if it were MADE for the TT...

Things that make you go HMMMM....

And a snippet from Dave Gess's website...

"This was going to be an American superbike. Superbikes of the time were big 750cc 4 cylinder Japanese street bikes. Brutally fast with powerful engines their street bike origins were revealed by suspect handling, extra weight and size. These things were large. The also ran in the premier AMA racing class and competed in the world’s most celebrated race the Daytona 200. To Erik a superbike needed to compete with these bikes, not just Ducati’s, BMW’s and Moto Guzzi’s. That is what Erik set out to do, build a bike that could win the Daytona 200."

Ancient history? Maybe : ), maybe not ;)...

GO BUELL GO BUELL GO BUELL!!!!!

The 200 is truly a race of attrition, anything can and will happen. The more Buells on the grid the better our chances are. So who do we have - Ciccotto, Higbee, Hale, and McWilliams? I like our chances.

Cicotto is a Question Mark and Higbee cannot race but his bike may.Just wonder if he'll be using the same rider that took his seat last season.

What's the story on Ciccotto? I believe Estok rode for the team that Mike Hale will be part of.

Sadly, Higbee's wrist is still not 100%. But if you count the new team that hired Mike Hale, and also count Hogan Bros, Kosco, Hal's, and Tilly's, that's five teams, IF they all show.

I think maybe the folks at East Troy may need to invest in an English/Irish translation book : )

Jeremy McWilliams makes Ian Paisley sound English!

Barney was the last Kosco/Innovative research Formula Xtreme racer. Estok won the FUSA Thunderbike championship racing for Richard Conrath last year.
