Dana, Are you sure about that? Why would Buell want to announce too far ahead of time and give the competition notice? I don't know either way, honestly. But I can see good reason why they might want to keep the whole deal under their hats for as long as possible. JQ, I'm curious about that 105 dBa noise limit. Measured where? On the right side of the bike? Or the left? How far away? I think the MotoGP limit is 130dBa, which is 316 times louder than 105 dBa. Makes the 105 dBa sound silly don't it? Or the 130 dBa crazy loud. It was loud at Laguna Seca last year. Nothing even close to Indy cars though. |

Blake, The sound limit at Laguna Seca is waived for 7 (or maybe only 5) events only each year - MotoGP is one of them. Many STOCK exhausts cannot pass at Laguna Seca for track days. Limit other than at one of the exempted events is 92 or 95dB AND you get 2 free test sessions to make adjustments. Test laps must be declared in advance. (I think 2 laps each session MAX) - and then after your test sessions, the fine is $1000 PER LAP that you are in violation. (Message edited by slaughter on January 10, 2006) |

Nothing will be announced in New York excpet for what time we're going to Chumley's and perhaps what key we'll be playing in. Daytona will be a wonderful place to be this year. The Florida sunshine, nice people, BBQ . . . just a chance to sit about and watch folks eat crow. Linemen love Florida. . . what can I say. By the way. . . in 20 years of invovledment in things Buell, I have never been "director" of anything. I can just see wind of this getting to an aging Erik and him going into arrest! I do have a nice delivery on the way from East Troy.

Page 28 of the rulebook says: 6. Sound Requirements a. All motorcycles must meet sound limits of 105 dB/A measured on the "A" scale at 0.5 meters (20 inches). Test procedure will be prescribed by the AMA, in accordance with SAEJ1287. b. Certain racetracks may require lower limits. Where specific maximum noise levels are required, those limits will be noted on the entry forms and/or Supplementary Regulations. |

Just curious, but when do the racers and teams have to sign up to race at Daytona? Can a team just show up at the gate without notice and sign in to race that day? Is there a list someplace public where one could actually see who is signed up to be there so far? Just curious. |

I don't know about the US, but in the UK you have to sign up at least a month in advance normally, although the list of competitors isn't normally released by the organisers until the race programme is available to buy on race day. |

On our last race of the year at Infenon (Sears Point) we had got black flagged when our Ti Force muffler blew up. Ran back to shop (13 miles) and picked up the brand new Rinehart we got from Hals. Lasted two laps when we moved into 4th place and got the meat ball again @ 109 db. ... The track has a 101 limit and is on the FX calender. ... The exhaust on the new bike will be with limits for most tracks I understand, but don't know if there will be a new bike? ... Terry |

Just posting to say that all of this is music to my ears. No one was more disappointed than me when nothing happened last year. Just one victory at Daytona or any AMA national would be more than enough to shut up the "SV650s are better and faster" crowd. All we will have to do is ask how many SVs have won FX races. No one seems to give any credit to Eric Wood for his non-AMA Loudon victory a few years back, they always have some excuse for it. And if the package includes the long rumored and so far mythical XB1350RR, well, so much the better. It's my opinion that a top of the line Buell need not make as much power as a Japanese litre bike to be a success. We all know most people can't use all of that power, and rider skill is the most important thing, so if it made even 110 RWHP or so that would be enough for a skilled rider to keep the fours in sight on the straights, and the rider could do the rest in the corners. |

20 inches? What is the bike just sitting idling in neutral? Anyone have a copy of that test specification? |

Well, it came down to my trackdays or Daytona. Looks like I'll be having a 200 party at my house!!! Still, god I hope all this speculation is warranted. Go Buell!! |

Saro The Pipe is great and quiet @ 97 db and even the stainless set up is light. But when the can looses it's packing about every other race, it explodes like a Coke can setting in the sun. They the Ti people were no help at all, ,,, Terry |

>>>>No one was more disappointed than me when nothing happened last year. Last year there were "other fish to fry" <<Wisconsin saying>> and making a profit was more important than anything. If you can't make a profit, frankly any business is basically a hobby. In addition, like a boxer preparing for a prize fight, if you haven't properly done your preparation and lined up the ol' ducks, participating will do more damage than good. Someone I'm thinking has already coined the cliche.... "Timing is everything" Trying to get Erik Buell to "just participate" or "just go make a showing"? I'm thinking it'd be easier to get Pamela Anderson on the cover of Southern Baptist Monthly. Then again....IU am a construction worker and could be wrong. See you in Daytona. Bring film. |

Without getting too far into this discussion, I would like to get some historical facts straight. Things did happen last year, but due to a number of events, did not happen to anybody's liking. Had it not been for Shawn Higbee's untimely get-off we would have had a bike in the 200 with a very talented rider and what I believe to be a competitive race bike. We (Hoban Brothers) did not put too much effort into FUSA and tried our best with our limited budget to have Buells at AMA events where we race for a crowd that at any one event is better than the whole year racing FUSA. We plan on the same for this year, just with better results! I do not believe it is right for anyone to comment at this point on this years effort, my belief is the proof will be in the puddin... |

The hand still has pins in it to this very day and he is not racing this year. |

I remember seeing a motorcycle online video of him riding an S1. My eyes saw it, but my brain said "a motorcycle can't do that. At least not that fast". I pray he heals fast and is bending my brain again soon. |

I saw him up at road america not long after the accident last year. I talked to him for a bit, he still seemed pretty bummed at that point, who wouldn't?, but he was there. He is not the quitting sort in my estimation. Watch for him next year, or even earlier, if he gets in riding trim before then. |

Shawn is sooooo fast at daytona on Buell its sick. I was privileged enough to have him draft me down the back straight a few times...and once proceed to show me the fast line through the chicane on an S1 Buell Lightning Series bike. Let's just say I didn't pick my jaw up until Nascar Turn 4, when he was already into Turn 1 heading to the infield. |
