Is that post from inside the right IP range Blake?

If there's a Buell in the 200 you can BET YOUR that I'll be wherever I need to be to watch it and I'll get kicked out for continuously jumping up and down and screaming "GO BUELL!!!!" at the top of my lungs for however long it takes for them to either go 200 miles or let the smoke out...

Apparently I suck as a race fan... When is the 200? Will it be on speed?

Tripp Nobles has been spotted in SoCal with an as yet unidentified Buell. Longer swingarm and unfamiliar engine sidecases were noted.
That's about all that was confirmed. Unknown if it was new production or modified for race use.

Doesn't Formula Xtreme require the use of production-based bikes? Now, I realize this is the purest wild-arse speculation, but if they're gonna race anything that is not currently (as of today) in production, how long have they got before they would have to bring it out? Could a new model be announced say 3/1/06 and still race at Daytona this year?

Based on a couple of nuggets that Court has dropped, it sounds like something is going to be announced next week at the IMS in NYC.

"unfamiliar engine sidecases"

I would think that the FX bikes could use "unfamiliar engine side cases" and still use production "cases" and frame and all that. It could be as "simple" as CF case covers to shed weight. As I recall, the FX Buells were a little over weight?

Dang, I'm not sure Buelldom can stand that much more excitement in one (model) year. The Uly and now this?

In a previous life The Lineman was the Buell Product Support Director.

Not sure why they let him "IN"

Not sure he wants to be IN.

Not really sure about him at all.

Anonymous posts ok, but I'm not buying the Rutter McWilliams testing at Daytona for Buell story. Sure Rutter might have popped over there, but when? Last March? Maybe he went in December to watch his mate Neil test his AMA Ducati? Whatever Rutter did he was not riding a V twin Buell. He's a four cylinder revs to the ceiling rider with no recent experience on anything remotely similar to a Buell.

Then there's that clue. They're keeping tight lipped. They signed confidentiality contracts. Yeah, like they'd tell us that too.

What if he's just interested in doing something different? Do you know if he has any particular interest in Buell street bikes?

Of course it could be bunk, but I really don't care WHO rides the Buells in the Daytona as long as they're there...

I agree have Buells in the field, 200 miles is a long race, just to stay in the lead pack at Daytona is tough with pit stops and all. ITS gonna be exciting!

Your estimation of the FX rules as applied to a Buell entry are horribly....

inaccurate. : )

Last year they couldn't keep an exhaust on and there was some speculation whether or not the motor would last 200 miles so I think they have probably made a reliable bike that at other tracks the prior season had shown that it can indeed be competitive

isn't it like a 50 bike homologation?
didn't they sell vr1000's in Poland or something to meet homologation rules for superbike in the 90's?

Yes but that was HD effort and Buell will not do a full on factory effort.

I would say that Buell has not yet fielded a full on factory effort. To say they will not is probably inaccurate. ;)

'05 rules state no quantity requirements, other than 'Formula Xtreme competition is restricted to motorcycles (engines and frames) produced for US street use and available in the US through retail dealers.' With the rules also stating 'Twin-cylinder air-cooled motorcycles: Engine modifications are unlimited', one has to wonder if the 'street engine' requirement is n/a for Air cooled twins...

'Twin-cylinder air-cooled motorcycles: Engine modifications are unlimited'

As long as the displacement does not exceed 1350cc and the sound output of the bike does not exceed 105 db.

That's when and if the AMA decides to enforce it. Certain tracks have even lower sound limits.

It is my understanding of the story is that Court just might have been one of the original "Team of Elves" that got those 50 or so Buells built that first winter back in the Quonset Hut. But more than that take a long look at what was and was not said here for the last few months ... Remember that these H-D Buell folks are great at keeping secrets, but they have vendors, race teams, riders, and many others who swear to not repeat what they did not hear, or to state what was not said and not to repeat details that are only a Wild Guess. . ... So lets get behind this and celebrate whatever happens. ... "God I am Glad Own a Couple of These" ... Terry
