This was in this weeks Motor Cycle News here in the UK:

Secret Buell test for Brits
An ambitious plan to boost the attendance for the bike races at Daytona during Bike week could see Buell taking part in the prestigious Daytona 200 next March - and it turns out that the bikes's development is being led by British stars Michael Rutter and Jeremy McWilliams.
Even though 500,000+ bikers attend Bike Week, less than 10% actually watch any of the races. Organisers reckon that a Harley-based bike might improve attendance.
Buell have been secretly testing a race machine with Rutter and McWilliams, as well as American stars Higbee and Mike Ciccotto.
The Brits have signed confidentiality agreements so are remaining tight-lipped - but it seems that Buell insiders have spilled the beans.
It also seems that McWilliams had a lucky escape at Daytona in December. According to a fireman taking part in a training exercise, McWilliams overshot the first turn and ran straight along the banking. For the purpose of the training exercise, there was a cable stretching from the top of the track to its base, a few feet off the ground.
As McWilliams overshot, unaware the exercise was taking place, a quick-thinking worker managed to raise the cable and allow the lucky McWilliams to pass underneath, unhurt.

Anyone know any more? Court & Anon, where are you when we need you?

I call Bull on the cable story. When there are bikes(or cars) on the track, they don't have anything else near it.

The Pirelli and Michelin riders did kinda sneak in for testing, though, I didn't know about it 'til it was over. I live close by.

It seemed like a very strange choice of test riders to me. Rutter & McWilliams have no experience of Daytona and, as far as I know, Rutter is contracted to Michelin whilst McWilliams was with Dunlop last year.

Could this be the answer to what happened at "the infamous Buell Formula Xtreme shakedown"?

Read the last sentence of the last paragraph:

I read that in MCN too.

Rutter rode the works Fireblade on Michelin's in BSB last season. For 06 BSB Rutter is riding a privateer Eddy Stobart Fireblade on Dunlop's.

The week before christmas he topped the first winter test at Almeria.

I've no idea but it sounds far fetched to me that we're to believe Rutter can risk testing a Buell at Daytona before the start of his 06 BSB campaign. Never mind his contract obligations?

Buell has made it reasonably clear that they are targeting the UK. Some Americans and some boys from over the pond at Daytona... Sounds like a brilliant plan to me. As far as Rutter running the 200... It doesn't say he'll go the distance in FX so it would be sort of like drivers from all walks of racing doing Le-Mans. Sounds reasonable to me.

If one swears to not repeat what he did not hear, or to state what was not said and not to repeat details that are only a WAG such as 150 RWHP . Then I think it's going to be a great race for Buell fans . I bet that we will see some of what only Mike Ciccotto got to ride last year. And again I am hoping that Buell will offer some version if to Local Dealer Race Teams. If H-D can sell 300+ V-Rod Destroyers, then Buell might make a few Open-Twin / FX bikes available?

DEAR GOD DON'T START THIS NOW.
I AM ABOUT TO BUY A FIREBOLT.
I DON'T NEED ANOTHER BIKE TO THINK ABOUT.
On the other hand how much would a firebolt be worth in 6 months on trade........??????????

Buy the Firebolt now- nothing in this provides the slightest clue that any new street bike is on the way.

This is F-Xtreme racing. If Buell is doing anything special for it, it's not likely to hit the street anytime soon.

It is all rumors, but regardless, I am totally stoked! : D

Now IF Buell does indeed have something competitive; and IF They have a big enough budget to properly race in the 200; and IF they have a lot of luck on their side; they might manage to pull off a win. And if they do, all we're going to be hearing is how the rules were biased, and how Buells are still junk, 'cause they need so much more displacement, and that Harley owns the AMA, etc, etc.
But I'll be wearing a grin that makes this look pale by comparison.

God,I hope it looks like the RR and sounds like Lucifers Hammer!!!

I hate to say it, but if Buell is going to win they are going to need something pretty special. This would have been the year to do it with Factory Honda bowing out, but then Yamaha pussed out and threw their factory bike in the mix. With all the Moto GP technology that the new R6 is packing, and a redline at 17,500 RPM, they are going to be tough to beat.

The AMA needs to take a look at their class structure to make things a bit more competitive. The Supersport and Superstock should be for privateers only, no factory teams!! Since the modifications are so limited these are the cheapest class for the privateer to be competitive. The factories should have to compete in the Superbike and FX classes since they are nearly unlimited and extremely expensive. My rant is now complete.

Except Erion Honda is not bowing out and that just as good as factory Honda. One other thing is that Honda will race FX for the 200 only then bow out. That sounds fare doesn't it??

Last years goal was to finish a race on the podium and Ciccotto came close. I don't think anyone has the money to take on Honda head to head. But this year to see the Buell Motor Company show and play seriously will be exciting. If H-D is going to stay in the sport bike business with Buell, then the ULY and something like this needed to happen. ... Terry

Tripp Nobles has been spotted in SoCal with an as yet unidentified Buell. Longer swingarm and unfamiliar engine sidecases were noted.
That's about all that was confirmed. Unknown if it was new production or modified for race use.
