Henrik, that's hilarious! these were shot during Afterglow '03. i was camping for the night at Lassen NP, and had the option of spending $$ for little bundles of wood at the campground store, or running the VFR about a 1/2 mile up the road and scarfing up some of the stuff lying about the forest floor:
1
1
sure made for a top-heavy motorycle, but my reward was a roaring fire all night long (and several from fellow campers).

best part: the store, tho tiny and out in the middle of nowhere, had a decent selection of microbrew in bottles, and i didn't go to sleep thirsty.

: )

Ferris and Ebear,I finally got the last of the S-2 motor back.Mr Nallin fixed the spun cam bushings by replacing them all with timken roller bearings, very cool and I did not have to buy another case.Spent the day fitting and grinding stuff--had to drill for longer lifter pins, grind bottom of lifter bores for cam lobe clearance, grind case at trans opening for Baker 6 speed clearance. But I actually have a nearly complete bottom end.Only been since july that I have ridden my S-2.Only have to do ring end gaps and bolt on cylinders and cases,Yippee!!
And a big thank you to Baker Gears as I sent my trans in because the shift fork had been hit by a broken and rapidly moving connecting rod. They sent me a brand spanking new trans--no charge!!Just needed a shift fork, really.

REPORT FROM NEW YORK

Saro will be fine. It may take a while, back in California, but I'm confident he'll be fine. It was a shock to find him wandering the corner of 31st and 7th, a seasoned traveler who had never set foot in Gotham. I took my responsibility, as the Badweb Cultural Emissary, seriously as I set about providing him with his first session of Urban Cultural Remediation and Adaptation 101.

Lessons included:

PROPER RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY - Poor Saro, a member of the Reepicheep/Josh "geek boy" species, mistakingly thought the one-way arrows on streets was a rigid "municipal dictum". I had to explain that it was a "suggestion" and made reference to the direction the vehicle is oriented, not traveling. In addition, and to ensure full legal compliance, I taught him the import of observing posted speed limits, regardless of direction of the arrows or vehicle travel...or any conflict between the two. Never exceed 30MPH backwards on narrow West Village streets. He'll recover from the lesson.

PARKING: As a "compu-noid" Saro seemed confused, mustering a look as a lab puppy would look at an oscillating fan, when I pulled the 12' long Ford F-250HD alongside the 11'-3" parking place and declared "finally, a place to park". He, I presumed from the look of wonderment on his face, failed to realize that cars ahead and cars behind, INVITE (yes, they ASKED for it) to be moved by virtue of having wheels. We placed the truck into the, now 12'-2" parking space and headed out to assuage our hunger.

COMMON SENSE: Having exited the urban cruiser, we exercised our considerable combined cognitive firepower long enough to, after taking 4 steps, read the sign "Police Vehicles Only". "what a joke!" I proclaimed, it was to scare innocent trucks away. We set out to look at the dash placards on adjacent vehicles...each and every one read "23rd Precinct".

SURVIVAL: I taught my greenhorn city pal that we were in a very BAD place and needed to leave IMMEDIATELY as the boys of the 23rd Precinct we subject to becoming quite hostile and took a dim view of coming to work and finding their parking place consumed by a tuck with a BUELL sticker. Leaving quickly was important.

MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS - In this, the final lesson, Saro assumed that since we'd only moved the cars ahead and behind about an inch, to claim that real estate we considered rightfully ours for the taking, that leaving would be just as easy. However...we needed to leave QUICKLY and we hadn't the time for luxury surgical precision we'd exercised during our approach and landing. Cars ahead and behind were quickly and effectively dispensed with and we were GONE.

After that....the excitement, Saro now having been "schooled", was over. We had a fun dinner, great visit and did the 2-hour intensive "how much can you see and how fast" tour.

Don Casto arrives at noon today and he, based on prior knowledge, is way to smart for any of my "what could possibly go wrong?" lines....Chauly's at the MC show and instructed Vick and I to "meet" them at 6 for din-din and the Broadway show. I got the impression he wanted no part of riding with me.

What's up with that?

: )

P.S. - to those of you who are new here, none of this really happened, it's just fiction written purely for your entertainment. Besides, you could never make the charges stick.

Glitch, I was wondering if you could help me. I have an idea of what I want my new 9R to look like, could you do a composite for me? I was thinking of a black fairing and front fender, black wheels, white air box cover and chin fairing, black tail section, and white pillion cover. I know, it sounds goofy. I don't mean to impose, so feel free to ignore me if you want. I can't seem to stop thinking about having a bike again. It's been too long. Now to get my mind off bikes, I'll go dig my car out.

too true, Tom! it was actually a risky ride back to my campsite - i had SO much weight on the back of the bike, not only up high but also very wide, that the scooter wanted to simply fall over in the worst way. the upshot was that i had the Mother of all campfires all night, and even left a decent supply of firewood the following morning for the next occupants. : )

40 degrees and light rain today in Homer, Alaska. Managed a 20 mile putt on the XL. Just enough to get it good and warmed up. I had to sand my driveway, but the main roads are all clear around here.

F1; with those riding requirements, I'd suggest Aerostitch Roadcrafter, Widder electrical gear with thermostat. Add a set of "stick-on" grip heaters, and you're ready for most of what normal riding season can throw at you.

Yep the original V-Max was legendary as the most powerful bike (not the best handling) 20 years ago.

To build something similar 20 years later? huh, really knocking down the door of inovation there at HD.

They've updated the styling of the V-Max. Yamaha should send them a thank you note.

They are just returning the favor for whoever stole the Nova plans from HD back in the 70's and took it to Yamaha for their bikes.......

It's no VMX with 05 emissions laws what they are. There's a big Max cult here in the UK and for the price of a 2nd hand Rod you could build a 125 ft-lb bike that handles well. There's something just not right with a Harley using a German engine.

When someone says "German motorcycle engine" I think of a BMW flat twin. When someone says "Porsche engine" I think of a pancake-6 engine. Hmmm, Porsche-6 engine in a shaft-drive bike chassis, hmmmm, BossHoss Germanified?

Okay, I'll go back to bicycles for a bit before someone throws a shock wrench at me. Speaking of which I need one of those wrenches, good thing I got my torch back.

Gotta go.
