Merry Christmas... apologies, it's religious

Channukah... no - religious too

Ramadan... same

Happy Kwanzaa... no - but getting closer

Happy Holidays (innocent enough - unless you're a Seventh Day Adventist, I suppose)

Happy Winter Solstice (gotta include our Druid friends)

No - by wishing everybody well, I'll be offending somebody else no doubt.

Ride safely (of course you urban stunters and street racers will be offended by that comment)

Have a nice whatever...

To take offense when absolutely none is intended demonstrates insecurity.

Not taking offense, even when it is absolutely intended, demonstrates serenity.

May we all enjoy a serene holiday season.

Hutch,
Actually, the majority of theologians and historians agree that Christ was most likely born in October.

I do agree with you however that the celebration of Christmas as we now know it nationally has become mostly about secular commercialism.

Sadly, the true focus, the birth of Jesus Christ, has been politically relegated to the sidelines, and some would have Him bannished from the arena altogether.

I think this is what Blake was getting at.

I do find it curious that in my childrens school, it is perfectly acceptable to teach about Hinduism, Buddhism, Darwinism, Islam and other beliefs. But, if you try to teach about Jesus it is grounds for termination, and they take very serious issue with it. Curious indeed.

Slaughter,
You slay me. : ]

Kowski,
What snippets of wisdom do you have for someone who criticizes others? I could use that one too. LOL.

Mick,
Suggest you start a permanent topic in the Storm Fronts area. That way you'll have all our info in one place for ease of access and planning. NW Arkansas has some amazing riding country. If you would be up for meeting there, I and some others might could meet ya there for a long weekend. Nothing certain yet, but it is a definite possibility.

Timbo,
Oh no, you've gone and done it! Merry Christmas fast guy. : )

Blake -- actually, the genisis of that greeting I offered was a bumper sticker on the truck of a dear friend -- it read

"My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter"

it seems I've offended you by not using the terminology you would prefer. I was not attempting to be PC (you really should know better), nor was I trying to accomplish anything except acknowledge the existance of a multiplicity of beliefs represented on the board -- this, clearly, is offensive to you. My goal is to make NEW mistakes every day, rather than repeating any old ones.

ah well -- enjoy your family over the upcoming period of time

The current birth date of Jesus was established by the early catholic church on the date of an existing pagan holiday. Not sure what that was but it is close to the winter solstice. saw a program where by studying the stellar movements of the time an estimate when it might have been was proposed. This was based not on astrology but on astronomy using the rationale of looking for an event that would have captured the attention of astrologers. After the the magi were astrologers and followed the heavenly bodies to find the baby.

Blake: I take your point and it's a good one. I'm up to here with the whole world bending over backwards to avoid offending The Progessive Society of Earthworm Worshipers (or whatever), the ACLU filing lawsuit after lawsuit each consciously intended to further unravel what makes the US great, and people blaming God, George Bush, and Captain Kangaroo for their own failure to do anything for themselves. But having a hairtrigger to offense, imagined or real, works against what the Price of Peace came to teach us. I like what Buellkowski wrote quite a bit.

As for the specific reference to Christ's early work as a carpenter, it's really quite meaninful that He came into the world meek and lowly instead of highborn and mighty. Of course He was much more than just a carpenter, but the list of all that He was and is might well fill the world (as per St. John), or would at least lock up this website.

Joanne and I here at American Sport Bike want to wish ALL of you the happiest of holidays. I hope all of you get to spend lots of quality time with your friends and families, and can take a moment to reflect on what's really important in life.

We've had a good year at American Sport Bike, much better than I could have expected when we bought the biz at the beginning of the year. It's been a lot of long hours and hard work, but it sure appears that we'll be able to sustain the biz and keep serving your Buelling needs for years to come. Thank you all for your support and camaraderie!

An especially big thanks to you in the US military that are serving to protect our freedoms to celebrate our holiday reason of choice. If you are reading this from afar, your dedication is appreciated, and we hope that you can be reunited with your family soon.

Thanks,
Al and Joanne at American Sport Bike

Davegess,
Having done some racing in the N.Y., N.J. area, I will find it amazing if they can pull off a track in the metro area. Noise curfews can put a real damper on your race day. I have seen more tracks that have closed due to the population explosion. I wish them luck.

Anyone got a recommendation for motorcycle insurance in Nashville, Tn?

My brother finally got a bike. After my dad and I pushed and pushed for him to get an SV650 or Blast... he plunked down for a new Softail. He says he plans on taking the MSF course tho. 'Course he gets the bike Monday, the MSF course will start in Spring...

The cops are real sensitive about motorcycles doing wheelies here in St. Louis after the local squids here, made the national news.
Dont say you weren't told. : )

john - State Farm it's a smidge over $400/yr. The RS is about $350, the Blast close to $300. $500 deduct, decent coverages.
He was quoted $1100/yr no uninsured motorist (req. in Il) $1000 deduct.

I mentioned he should have called for Ins *before* he bought the bike...

I did managed to pull a wheelie on the FJR, which equals my total # pulled on my S3...

damn I'm a wimp

Choptop,
To be precise, evolution is scientific fact. Darwin's theory of natural selection was his attempt to explain it. As theories go, it's held up rather well.

Russ (Ara),
Evolution is scientific fact you say? Could you please prove it then so we can end the entire debate? Merely exhibit to us anything at all that shows how one species developed into an entirely different species? And while you are at it, do you also believe (there's that word again : ) ) that life sprang up accidentally from non-living matter, or is that an entirely different issue?

And then how did all the matter in the universe come to exist, by accident? Not likely is it? Isn't that kinda like saying that the pyramids happened by accident?

I'm not contending that evolution didn't happen. I'm not contending that the universe isn't billions of years old. But I wouldn't pretend that it is "scientific fact" either.

I think the core issue is how did life come to be on Earth in the first place.

Lots of very learned and highly educated men including former atheists contend that life on Earth is the product of intent and intelligence, a creator, so to speak. I agree with them. DNA, it ain't an accident. : )

I think what you are expressing is more akin to faith than scientific fact. : )

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, Season's Greetings as you wish. : )

Blake:

I would agree with Ara that evolution is scientific fact. That, by itself, does not directly speak to either the origin of life in general nor the origin of Homo sapiens as a species. It merely means that existing species change over time as a result of adaption to environmental pressures. How life on earth came to be and how Homo sapiens came to be is a matter of theory based (hopefully) on accrued evidence. One ignores factual evidence in developing and evaluating theories at one's peril.
