Hey all...did anyone hear if AW & crew got the 1350 class record in MPG? By the SCTA websight, it appears they did at a 167 MPh & some change, but the sight hasn't updated as of yet today!

PS..Tim Horton always did an excellent Job of riding our Production Sportster at the Flats, he has a knack of getting out of the "air'...a very stand up guy...& Richard was to!

Loki,
Albany? We could schedule a bike-night in Syracuse, probably 2.5 hrs from Albany on the NYS thruway. How long are you up for? What temps are you willing to ride in?

Matt,

Sad to say I aint packin the S1 with me on this trip. Should be passing through the Syracuse area sometime wednesday.

Up there till just before xmas and then back to the mid south for the new year. A long enuff time span to allow a shot at hooking up and bench Buellin.

Temps? I will ride as long as its hits low 30s and no salt on the roads. Maybe I ought to pack the gear just in case though....

It has been an incredible week...

A tribute to the attention to detail, the pursuit of perfection and POWER that Aaron, Susan, Jon and all the people of NRHS have been able to accomplish these incredible results.

It was an honor to be able to pilot the RR/S2 and the S1 successfully.

It's still sinking in...but I just want to say THANK YOU to every one here.

And THANK YOU Erik Buell and the Buell Motorcycle Company for building Worldclass American Motorcycles.

Sandblast,I believe it is a clearcoat and can be removed with fine steelwool and acetone, then polished.

Unlike yourself, I didn't like the 'old boys' club you've become so keen on these days. Too effing clique'e for my tastes. That and the uphill gardening involved.

Tubers,
If you don't already, PLEASE pre-flight your bike every time you ride it, and add the check for both front motor mount bolts to that check. Mine failed again, and I was less than 5 miles from dropping my engine had I not noticed it. Catching a broken bolt early means that you'll get to replace just the bolts, maybe the bolts and a mount. Missing it may cost you a front head, or possibly your life.

See this badweb thread

Rocket the Flamboyant. Didn't seem clickey to me, seemed like some really friendly people having a lot of fun and helping each other.

I expeted the cold shoulder last year when I showed up with a Suzuki, and was pleasently surprized to find the opposite to be true.

Even the Australians treated me like an old friend!

Go change your sanitary napkin, maybe you'll feel better.

Service manual says every 10k check tightness of front motor mount bolts, for a few dollars I replaced mine. I did notice rust and aluminum oxide on the right side bolt only.

I have the B-018 Service Bulletin. I could scan it and send it to Blake for posting. Blake, you need it, or do you already have it?

But the only real important thing it says is to use new bolts and washers, clean the threads prior to installing (important so that the torque spec is truly indicating bolt preload and not just overcoming thread friction), put 20W-50 oil under the heads and washers (important for same reason), red loctite the threads (and keep the oil away from the loctite and vice versa), torque the bolts to 60 Ft-lbs, loosen them one full turn, and re-torque to 60 ft-lb. B-018 was part of a recall on some '97 and 98 Buells that apparently got the motor mounts put on without following the above. Not sure, I think the above might have been developed as a result of failures of said recalled bikes

Checking the tightness of your motor mount bolts is a little bit like testing bombs. If you actually tighten them, you've probably broken the loctite bond and they should likely be removed and replaced. And if they were loose to begin with, then they probably should be replaced as they would have been running without preload for a while and now have decreased fatigue life remaining. Either way, the bolts are now no good, just like a bomb that has been tested. So I'm not sure exactly what they mean to check the tightness.
