Hey Denise...I'm still hoping to get to meet you but we'll have to see...Here's a copy of a post I just put on the Missouri - Southern Illinois HSTA Yahoo Group site...

No Good Deed Shall Go Unpunished!!!

Okay, Shirl (the Angel of Mercy) and I go out to dinner this evening
after I take a little after work ride with a new motorcyclist friend
who lives here in Eureka...Shirl asks me after dinner if I can return
a movie to Blockbuster by the Wall...I do so and stop at the QT on
the way home to gas up...Another guys pulls in on a scooter with
that "thousand yard stare" look...He's just ridden in US 50 from Kansas
and needs to get to Cape Girardeau this evening and asks if there is a quick
way over to I-55...I offer to show him the way over to M highway and we
do so...I had told him when I got him to the divided road I would do
a u-turn and go home...I rode with him a bit on M and then turned
around...As I was approaching the new 21 overpass I saw a truck
headed right at me in my lane, the fast lane...Obviously going the
wrong way on a divided highway...I remember thinking "I'm not going
to hit him" and I swerved onto the shoulder and then did one hell of
a panic stop and as I was stopping I think he clipped the right side
bag and the bike went down into the median...The truck went into the
median behind me...I went down hard on my right side where I'm sore
as hell...Have a cut on my right thigh and a scrape on my right
elbow...But it is my shoulder that is sore as hell...After taking
stock of my situation, as in all things seem to be working (well
we'll have to find out about THAT still working later) I sat up and
gently removed my helmet...The truck then took off up the median and
away on the correct side of the road...Then another vehicle stopped and called 911 and I asked to use his phone to call Shirl...God, how I hated making that call...I then called my "other angel" Sue (an EMT that rides with us)
when I got home and she put me on 800 mg of Ibu and lots of ice...So
I'm sitting here with a very cold shoulder (pun intended)...Too f'ng
shook up to sleep...

Okay, so two years ago when we're supposed to go to Cali and Jerry has a great welcome planned for us John has
bike problems and we don't make it past Tulsa...And now this...Do you
think California has something against me...Maybe I should just be
pleased with riding in the other 49 and forget the Golden State...

Let's see how I feel tomorrow and hope for the best...

Thanks Gals and Guys,

Bob

P.S...I feel like I've been run over by a red-head!!!

P.P.S..Well I'm pretty sure Pumpkin is now a jack-o-lantern...That's always the worst part when you're lucky enough to walk away...Seeing that beautiful cycle all busted up and being towed away...

Hey people.

Newbie Bueller here. Taking delivery of XB9SX (CityX thang) in about 5 days. Last bike was GSXR600(K3) and I have an RGV250R too.

Fed up of going to work in traffic on supersports, engine bogging down and my back and wrists killing me!

XB9SX seemed to have just the right manners and riding position. Seems like a bit of fun.

I've read loads of comments on them, some really good, some really bad. Mostly the sports bike guys hate em. Well, I'm a sports biker, and I made my choice based on the way I ride (to work, in traffic). Seems there are a lot of people still like to just compare numbers.

I've had 10 bike in 10 years, one always 'quicker' than the next. Now I'm someones dad, and I just want to enjoy my ride to work and get home in one piece.

Look forward to letting you know how I get on with it.

D, It was a grand adventure with way too many stories. Needless to say the "follow your front wheel" method has proved to be the best form of moto-travel yet!

Ferris does not have the accent down... he still sounds like a left-coaster imitating a hillbilly. It's obvious and WRONG! : ) No doubt it will go away long before the memories fade.

Way cool of you and Kim to allow us our "healing ride". Thanks! As I jump at the chance to write "I regret not getting to meet you." I suspect that a Blue Ridge trip will cover that base in the near future. Looking forward!

Nick:

Welcome aboard and dig up the little piece I wrote on "Grill Guards", you are going to LOVE the City Crosser.

By the way, the nerds at Buell made a mistake in calling it the SX and from now on you should refer to it as the Cx.

: )

Ferris: I was totally blown away when you two called the other day, I could FEEL the energy!

By the way, my porch light is on as well. But, if'n I were you I'd haul your Buett West as fast as the V-Strom will carry it!

Ride safe, smile much, lean more,

Can we arrange a quick meet perhaps?
Someone say it's possible...

Hey all,
I've used the Search in the KV, Old School Buell, etc, areas to find info on S2 intake seals. I seem to have the same symptoms.

I cannot find a part number listing for the parts (shouldn't be that difficult for the stealership to find though).

What other parts, pieces, tools, materials, and/or things are needed when doing this?

I read where someone felt that burnishing (or smoothing) the inside of the intake was useful, but he was also replacing the CV carb with a Mikuni.

Any help is appreciated.

Dave

Burrpenick,
saw your note, and also am reading about the krypronite lock problem, and too am wondering if our ignition are in the same boat. I've seen which model of pen is used, and I'm taking one home tonight to see if our lock is the same size.

Thanks for the good thoughts, guys...And a very public "thank you" to John...Although he started eight months of night work this evening in his new management position he drove me up to pick up The Mother Ship at Niehaus in Litchfield IL this morning...And rode the ST back to the house for me...Prolly 250 miles round for him...I'm doing pretty good, all things considered and have started packing...Was able to put the scooter up on the center stand this evening without too much trouble...Shirl spotted for me...Will take a teste spin tomorrow...

I can't wait to see Ferris tomorrow...I is a long anticipated meeting on my part...He did so much work for us getting ready to lead us into Cali before the start of the BRAG tour and then we don't make it...

And Denise, thanks for sharing him with all of us...I'm going to especially appreciate his company riding west given what happened the other evening...

just a simple day in small-town Indiana, USA, John Cougar Mellencamp thru and thru, all 79 miles of today's ride. visited James Dean's boyhood home, and his final resting place. never been to IN before, have fallen in love with the countryside and the people. i could live here.

the place next to JB2 is for sale. but, as he says, we WOULD get in trouble if we were neighbors. undoubtedly true, but it'd make for great material.

i'm back on the road tomorrow, St. Louis bound in the near term, and finally face time with Racerboy. good to hear the life in your voice this morning, dude. that you still plan on riding to San Diego for the wedding speaks volumes. see you in about 15 hours.

Bartimus, if there is ANY way i can hook with you on the way back to the Dome it's a done deal. i'll be in touch in the next few days to go over a plan.

Court, it was a treat for me and JB2, too. if i sounded amped you surely understand why. if for no other reason, the Blue Ridge Parkway is sublime and surreal.

Rocket, thank you. really, thank you.

Sandman, not to worry, there's plenty in reserve.

Denise, i miss you. i'm pointed west now, finally. it'll be a bit yet, but it will be good.

ride to lean y'all,

>>>>Who's at Bonneville besides FiremanJim? Any reports?

Absolutely and GOOD NEWS at that. Phone rang yesterday and it was FMJH and PaulOz calling to say that the Fireman had taken the fairing off his S2, rolled it to the line and goen face to face with the bad boys in the "naked bike" division. FMJH, running under the TEAM ELVES banner, now holds a NEW LAND SPEED RECORD in an unfaired class at 150+ something. He's back in the fray today running the same class in fuel.

Also, one of our own tossed another salvo at them, putting an S-1 in the 130MPH cub..noy only "in", but "way in" on the order of 136+.

More news later when the drinks kick in and they call me back!

Heyo from Iraq,
Thought I would pop my head in and see what I'm missing other then some of the best riding weather. Lots of fresh new pavement where I'm at and it make me miss my S1 even more. Should be back sometime in January and thinking of trailering my bike up to Oregon from Utah so I can get some riding in.
Anyway off to work. I'll check in from time to time.
