Carl -- let me add my thanks to those you've already received -- I think motorcyclists, in general, and the folks on this board, specifically, ARE grateful for our men and women in uniform, and not at all shy about expressing same . . . . it's a good group of folks you've fallen in with

the DC BRAG chapter seems to be very active, and, having met a couple of the members, you couldn't do better for riding partners and Buell-knowledgeable friends

welcome to the board, sarge

Carl,
Karl here.

There's a few of us in the area. If you go to the "Storm Fronts" section of the board you'll see a thread for the MidAtlantic area (DC/VA/MD).

Service is always appreciated if not mentioned. I did 8 years myself in the army and am currently serving as a "Civilian Marine" on Quantico.

There are actually a couple of USMC only riding clubs in the area Leathernecks, and http://www.bandofbrothersusmc.org/. BoB is a vendor neutral club, and very active. Drop me a PM and I can get you a PoC if you're interested in talking to them. They ride weekly as well as do community service, and long trips.

Reindog, just image-google "child toy hand grenade" and you'll come up with copies of varying sizes. If you see Arbus' series from that shoot, the kid looks normal & happy in every frame, except that one. Priceless.

Softailbuell,

Where are you at on Quantico? I'm in the Marsh Center!

Thanks for the tip on bandofbrothersusmc. I don't think I'm interested in riding with a "club" other than the BRAG groups. I'm going to try to pull away one weekend and get up to the group up there!

Semper Fidelis,
Carl

Throw all you think you know about counter-steering out the freakin window!

The "Straight Ahead" looks interesting. Actually, his varied approaches, rather than focussing and trying to push just a singular vision concept, will prolly lead to a hit for him eventually...

Decisions, decisions.
Just got back from a fantastic two-week trip to Newfoundland and now a neighbor wants me to go with him to Phoenix for a week.
What's a poor Bueller to do?

I am new to this site. I am looking at an XB9S. My history is riding a ZX-10(old style). Anyway does anyone use these for two up riding? I am around 200lbs and my girlfriend is 135-140.

I am looking at getting a Cyclone or an XB. I have test ridden both. What do previous and existing owners like and dislike about their Buells.

Thanks

Hi Todd-Welcome to the Badweb!
I don't ride an XB-They are awesome machines but I like to stretch out a little and the M2 (Cyclone) allows me to do just that. Load capacity on the M2 ('99, at least) is 395 lbs; you should be well within that range even after stopping for lunch There is nothing I dislike about my Buell. Even the bad things. It's all good. Coming from a ZX-10 you'll find the rpm range a little strange at first but you get used to it. After a bit you learn that the torque curve starts low (about 3k on a stock M2) and pulls like a tractor all the way up to the rev limiter. This thing has like 85 ft. lbs of torque at around 4500 RPM. Handling; all I can say is "Ride one...again". I've heard the XB's are even more flickable. My recommendation is, if you can find a dealer nearby, beg, borrow or steal a good test ride on an open road and see how long it takes to get the stupid grin off your face! Again, welcome, and let us know what happens.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask but I was wondering if the 98 S1 Lightning stock heads were black? Just curious if the bike I have has T-storm heads. Or if there is a way to tell the difference without removing them.
Thanx

Yes they were.
The VIN was also "YS" for the S1WL and "SS" for all of the S1s (96-98)

Kim-
Thanks for the offer, my partner hasn't decided which way he wants to go but I'm lobbying for straight thru Colorado both ways. I'm not real fired up about riding thru Kansas.
One would be your direction and one would be over Wolf Creek Pass. My boss gave me the green light last night. I wasn't sure if she'd mind me taking three weeks of cycle trips without her.
I'll let you and Chris, er. I mean Cheryl, know what we're doing.

Anyone (except the obvious hooligans) going to the Bub(s) event at Bonneville? I've been gone to long from the site and didn't even know about it until Aaron mentioned it to me via an e-mail and then FMJ explained it to me. <duh>

I'll be going as a spectator. Planning to leave the Bay Area Tuesday morning and arrive that evening.

FMJ - I'm also planning on going back for the USFRA meet and will be available for help/hauling, if needed. Will you be at A.S.B.N. on Monday?

Kim-
My partner is afraid to ride thru the mountains that time of year, could you keep me updated on the weather we might encounter. I told him we'd be crazy to come out that way and NOT go thru Colorado. I told him we could come that way and then just drop down the front range if the weather was bad in the elevations.

What shop did Murrae work for? I'd like to drop in and say hi to him too.
