You Yank's are fed a croc-o-shite!

This weeks MCN has spy shots of KTM's proposed Supermoto, heavily based on the Adventure.

The Duke will go on sale in the UK after November's NEC bike show. That's this November, not next.

The KTM said to be arriving in 2007 is a production version of the RC8 concept. It is said to have a choice of V twin or V4 motor. The V4 a 990cc detuned version of their shelved GP motor.

>Per the most recent KTM dealer meeting the RC8 has been pushed back to 07
>They made other announcements as well (v4?).

M1,
Last year they implied the RC8 would be avail for 04.

Sorry for any confusion guys.

Not knocking them at all.
There's a KTM dealer near by that also is an accessory shop.
When ever I go the for some thing I lust for the LC4 super moto. I really want one bad.
You have to admire a bike company that sells every bike they make.
Just tellin' it like it is, or how the press says it is anyway

Sean,
It's more that I'm sick of hearing and reading stuff like (paraphrasing here) "if only Buell would build a real Superbike, like the KTM or the Fischer". Bringing a bike to market, especially a radically new design, is incredibly difficult, time consuming, and fraught with delays ranging from changing regulations to balky supply chains. And yet Buell has done it over and over (yes I include the Blast in that list). I've heard and read more times than I can count that the XB series bikes should have had say, the KTM motor. Well, KTM can't get it to the public until '07 now, and the XB has been available at dealers everywhere for what, 3 years? What other manufacturers are floating as concept bikes Erik Buell and Co. are mass producing and selling right now.
The bikes that KTM is currently producing are by all accounts great bikes. If they weren't, people wouldn't go ga-ga with anticipation for the RC8. But I think floating it out there for so long will have the reverse of the intended effect. By the time it comes out, either a.) no one will care anymore - the boy who cried wolf syndrome or b.) it'll be a disappointment - expectations raised so high after years of anticipation that no motorcycle on the face of the earth could possibly satisfy them.
Then there's c.) Buell or some other manufacturer releases an RC8 killer bike at the same time, and steals their thunder. A real possibility when you've left your cards on the table for so long.
Hitchcock was a master of suspense, of knowing just how long he could make you wait, keep you at the edge of your seat in breathless anticipation before you lost interest. I think KTM and Fischer have surpassed that time limit.

Hey guys, don't take it so personal

I'm more disappointed KTM aren't going racing. I wanted to poke Buell in the eye for not doing so first. What with Erik's racing background and all. Then again, who knows what the future holds. I don't, but I do like surprises.

Yeah, same here Glitch. A bike that looks like it's great for urban assault, really tight winding roads full of holes (plenty of them over here) and for playing on the miles and miles of dirt roads that have no speed traps and virtually no highway patrol cars - might be the perfect 2nd bike, get your rocks off and keep your licence.

I'm new here, but I'm surprised to see all the interest in the KTM and no mention of the Aprilia. My buddy loves his Mille. I have no idea how they stack up against the XB, though.

Charlie,
Do you know if they have stock exhaust on their Aprilia's? I know my bud's talking about going to an aftermarket.
Another Aprilia rider joined us for a ride and noted that the Aprilia's have the motor Harley/Buell should have built. I need the bags. I won't be tempted as long a the Futura looks like an F-117 clone!

Hey guys, had the great luck of laying down my S1W yesterday. I'm looking for replacement bodywork, either OEM or carbon fiber, but am not having any luck finding bodywork for the older bikes. Any websites/companies you could suggest would be appreciated.

All:
I think that I may have an intake leak, but can't for the life of me remember what to spray around the manifold to test for leaks. Water, WD40, carb cleaner??? I can't remember! (I hate getting old!)

Ara,
Yes. Almost anything will do as long as it's a mist that can get sucked into the leak. Using starting fluid might just be a bad idea though. ; )
I need to do this to the M2 this week. Started running real rough below 3,500rpm on Friday. Nursed it home on the throttle. Ripped out an accessory on Saturday thinking it might be the issue. Haven't restarted it yet to find out.
Will spray it down with WD40 tonight or tomorrow to check for intake leaks.

Mike, thanks. I'll try the WD40, too.

Rick, be kind to your neighbors. I've got a new neighbor across the street, and he owns a Harley with straight pipes. He blips the throttle gratuitously and it sounds like .50 cal machine gun fire. When he comes back from a ride he deafens the whole neighborhood. He's not popular, and as the only other motorcyclist in the neighborhood it's ipso-facto a reflection on me and my quiet little Buell with the stock exhaust can. Every motorcyclist is an ambassador, for good or ill.

Howdy Easyrider...We LOVE our Aprilias too. We've been riding our Tuonos with Buells the last couple of weekends and having a HOOT!!

As you can see we ride these bikes hard....However even after putting 3000 miles on my Tuono and then getting back on the X1 I cant fail to see what Erik has given us.The Aprilia has the motor that HD should have bought for the buell.Huge amounts of HP that comes on at 7000 rpm and pulls untill you give up or 12,500rpm....I give up before then so far...Yet its so docile under that that anyone can ride without trepidation.HOWEVER the bike is wheelie prone and kinda tall. When I hop on the X1 I feel at ease.I find myself sitting IN the bike instead of on top of.I can hang off and drag my knee on most tight corners and feel totally in control.Turn in is very linear and intuitive and sliding back on is easier. The torque is better and helps in slower corners. Not saying the Tuono isnt spectacular handling, extremely powerful and very dependable. Will take a lot longer to get used to wheelies when Im hangin' off the side! All in all I love both bikes but the Buell is easier to ride well in a short amount of time.I may not keep this Tuono for ever but I,ll probably NEVER let loose of my X1!!!!

Everything is just as wonderful as usual. And how in the wide world are you?
I thought I would try to get in touch with my burlap underwear side and try to get back on the board a bit...but life is moving so very fast, this country gal is having a hard time keeping up.

Blake, I have commissioned some kick-butt T's to be made. I will send one out to you when I have them in hand for your part in the creation.

What do you guys and gals think about t-shirt material. I like 100% cotton myself, but this ol' hoss is trying to talk me into 50/50. Does anyone have an opinion on the subject? My last batch of T's were 100% and I got no complaints. But someone has mentioned a shrinkage issue with the 100%. (Kinda like you fellows when you get out of a cold creek)hee hee.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Pammy,
I used to wholesale 100's of dozen t-shirts. 100% cotton is the best. Factor in for a little shrinkage. Buy a brand name shirt.

Pammy, mentioning shrinkage to a man is like mentioning "shank" to a golfer. It's just not nice! So pull up those burlap skivvies and button up, woman! (100% cotton is best)
