Fireman Jim...bought the extra S-2 stuff...frame, bodywork, fairing, oiltank, swingarm, etc...should get in a month or so....almost have enough to build a new S-2......Or an S-2 with a Vrod motor in it.... | ||

Vortex domino tipover. I sure would make it a very bad night if you bike was damaged while parked. I have seen this thing happen at Daytona and heard of once before at the Vorticity when a drunkman, while swinging hos leg over his bike toppled several others. In this particular incident the drunkman immediately announced he would be paying for damages. Those of us with old bikes would not really benefit that much. Guess I might park across the street next time I go. | ||

Bicycle Luker here, It was AWESOME seeing MikeyP on the road in Manhattan. I swooped into a lane-splitting position and there was wonderful basso sound of a V-twin growling in front of me. As I haven't seen many Buells underway, I at first thought "Ducati?" then saw the belt-drive and the deeper note of the American twin became clear to me. Next stop light, I circled back said, "howdy", and MickeyP introduced himself while his blue Lightning shook like an angry dog, wanting to leap. At the green light, MickeyP let the hound leap, indulging in a spectacular wheelie. Heading for the tunnel. It was, no s*it, the highlight of my day! David | ||

Dave: There is no place in the world, with the longest tunnel in the USA and the sold walls of the streets formed by buildings, that a Buell sounds more like a Buell than NEW YORK CTIY. My personal favorite is when Stephen and I used to do our monthly "under the light of the FULL MOON" runs. We have all the best late night, jazz, coffee and homemade personal cheesecakes scoped out. What were the main differences in the engine between S-2 and 1997 S-1?Were flywheels lighter?Educate me. | ||

Yes, the S2 has heavier flywheels. The S1 has the "B" cams (aka SE bolt-ins, Lightning cams, Andrews N4's) , the S2 has "D" cams (i.e. plain jane Sportster cams). The S1 uses a Lightning head ... 62cc chamber with a 10 degree squish band on each side. The S2 uses an XL1200 head ... 67cc hemi design chamber with no squish band. Ports and valve sizes are the same between the two heads. Both use flat tops, 9:1 with the 67cc chamber on the S2 and 10:1 with the 62cc chamber on the S1. Air cleaner is different as well. Also the header & muffler are different. And ignition. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. | ||

I just wanted to reintroduce myself, as it's been a LONG time since I posted. I own a 98 S1WL with a few mods. Bought it new back in 97/98, and rode for a few years. I haven't ridden much in the last few years, but this summer the higher gas prices have allowed me to renew my love for Buell. A crash, plus the recalls, made my S1 less friendly for me, a person with a 26" inseam. (shock replacement and Euro seat). This year I bought a different seat (Dont know what it's called, but it's a corbin looking solo seat from Buell with the Pegasus on the side) , and the Westeck lowering kit. These two changes have made it so I can touch the ground with both feet for the first time in years. I'm using the S1 mainly for around town use, and forgot how much I dislike interstate speeds on the S1 for long periods of time. I'm thinking about picking up Airtech S1 Superbike kit to help with the aerodynamics, but don't think it'll fit the larger S1WL tank (modify even more [you need to cut to mount street hardware]). Anyone have or seen this configuration? If I get the Superbike seat section, will it help or hurt seat height? Overload in Colorado | ||

Overlaod,I cannot remember which set of Airtech stuff I got(Take a look at my picture in profile),but the seat height remains the same.The S-1 seat still attaches at the front and slides into the bodywork at rear.The front section will take alot of fab work to make a headlite work properly as they give you NO mounting hardware at all.They told me to"just use some silicone to hold it in".The aircleaner set-up was impossible to figure out,glad I was not planning on using one.The front section uses the frame rails under the gas tank for support,so if bigger tank may interfere with that.Be prepared to fab stuff and you are on your own as far as Airtech is concerned,once that product is out the door. | ||

Hey David, I'm glad i made your day! I just wish there wasn't so much traffic, i can wheelie a hell of a lot better than that. BTW, i know my bike was dirty as hell, but i still think it's black. Ain't that the truth Court. S1's were made for city riding! A few years back, i was working nights at Toys R Us's flagship store in Times Square. I rode the S1 there almost every night. I was going to work at around 11pm one hot August night, and i was at a stoplight. A few brothers were hanging out, and they seen the Buell, all nasty, loud and shaking. I look over, and start doing a burnout for them. They were going crazy! I left them whooping and hollering in a cloud of burnt rubber, and smoke. Next time i do i Burnout in Times Square, i'll make sure i get a pic of it. |
