The BRAG Homecoming was GREAT! Good to meet everyone and there was lots to do. Its the second event I've done this year with BRAG Both EXCELLENT!

Has anyone seen an emergency belt for Buell/Sportster? All I can find online is for big twins like dyna and that belt is too wide for my S3. Dealer here has never heard of it. I would like a backup for road trips as I have 51k on my belt.

S3thunder, I wouldn't worry about your belt unless it's damaged or the pulleys are showing abnormal wear or you're running without belt guards. Shoot, my 96 S1 has over 81,000 miles on its first belt and it and the pulleys are fine.

Food was the main theme at the bringing it home, home coming this year.....The people were the next best things (always great to be around Buell enthusiasts), Battletrax by Reg, the East troy downtown event, the beautiful weather, and the races....Great job.....everyone should plan on this event each year, if only just to meet old friends and talk motorcycles at night......REX

I don't think so Blastard, so long as it was not loktite red... I don't think you can do much harm adding loktite blue to any bolt on the bike.

I just traded my 1995 883 sporty in for a 99 X1 this past weekend and I want to know the best way to make my X1 as loud as I possible (on a limited budget) because I miss the noise. And are there any potential problems that plague 99 X1's that I should know about?

IMHO... leave them alone, but "make a note of it".

What you have done is just make the things harder to remove, so it's not a problem... until you go to remove them.

When it is time for you or someone else to pull them, just give them a heads up. You (or they) will need to use really good tight fitting sockets, heat the heck out of everything with a torch, and use an impact tool. They will probably come out fine, just with a little more work.

To be honest, I never saw much difference in the results of loktite red and loktite blue. Supposedly, the red requires heat to release, but I never had any trouble pulling bolts that were fastened with it, regardless of the temperature.

Just make sure whoever pulls them next time knows. If they know they will be "a tough nut to crack" they can probably get them out without a lot of extra work. But if they don't know, they could be in a hurry and strip or break a bolt when pulling things apart.

Loctite red on aluminum is, in my experience, a bad plan. All too often I've seen the hole's threads come out with the bolt.

What's important on the rocker box is to properly torque the bolts.

Ferris...I sincerely hope you don't include me and a number of others in your list of BRAG Raggers concerning the Homecoming. Our primary concern was the availability of a daily entrance fee for the locals that couldn't get off work for the full term but wanted to participate in an event that would be special to them.

I merely continued to Lobby for the daily fee. The mechanics of which are irrelevant as anyone at BRAG can figure it out if they choose to. If not, I will be more than happy to offer my consulting services to them as I have over 30 years experience dealing with these matters.

In my situation, the only night Di and I could participate was Thursday at the Factory and East Troy Extravaganza. We knew this months in advance and could have preregistered for the night, but it wasn't available as confirmed by a fellow I called at BRAG.

As a Businessman, I do not believe in crashing a party or freeloading as I referred to it. BRAG has every right to charge for the event and to put a stop to the freeloading. However, $75 each or $150 per couple for a dinner party is ludicrous. Fine for political contributions but not for an event like this.

The way I perceive the $75 Fee is that it was for the three day homecoming and that the fourth day at Road America was a bonus. Additionally, the "Care Package" would be available exclusively to those that paid for the three day event. Assuming this to be true, $25 would be an appropriate per day entrance fee. Ergo, should someone pay the $25 for the first day and decide to stay through the races, that would be 4 days at $25 dollars for a total of $100 sans the "Care Package" which is exclusively for those that preregistered for the entire event. I think this is more that fair.

As BRAG is apparently planning to make the homecoming an annual affair and they have just established a new standard of excellence, It sure would be nice to have more Buell owners from the Chicago and Southeast Wisconsin areas participate.

Consider the demographics of a Bueller. Most are young, hard working at both their families and careers and quite often there are other priorities that interfere with a three or four day function. Considering their lack of seniority on the job, the chances of them getting vacation during a week including a holiday are slim to none. Normally, those with seniority scarf up those weeks early in the year.

For the moment, I am only addressing the daily fee concept for the homecoming, but there are other events like the long distance rides that stop at dealers along the way for some R&R, where a local may want to participate for the evening and a days ride with friends and then head back to family and work but doesn't want to or can't afford to pay all or nothing. Again, remember my major premise is to allow the locals to join in and feel the camraderie that normally couldn't go.

Subjectively, I contend this will help BRAG immensely in the Recruitment and Retention of active members. Objectively, they can prove it to themselves as they have access to demographic information concerning vehicle sales, vehicle registrations, National BRAG membership, Local BRAG membership and participation on the local, regional and national events. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure it out. In fact, take a summer intern or a dink from a temporary service and give them the info, a desk and a computer with a spreadsheet program and you will have the hard numbers from which to make a decision in short order.

I can't speak for other areas, but National and Local BRAG membership and participation in the Greater Milwaukee area is truly underwhelming. We have 8 Buell Dealers from Kenosha to West Bend but only 2-1/2 BRAG Clubs. The half is a dealership that had an approximate 5 members that ended up with severe family and career problems.

The number of BRAG Club members in relationship to the number of Buell's in the area is quite low and is much worse when you count only the active members. This is truly a sad state of affairs as we are in Buell's back yard which is where one would expect their strongest supporters.

Ferris, as I mentioned in one of our communications earlier this year, Buell and BRAG need more folks like yourself to make it happen. Your West Coast Rides are absolutely works of art from concept, through implementation and follow up. Your public relations work is State of the Art. Locally, we now have DaveS who has done an excellent job over the years and perhaps he will do even more in his new neighborhood. Am glad he found a new home at Appleton HD/BMC but selfishly wish he had landed at a more centrally located dealer like Hal's. Oh well, perhaps some if your and his magic will rub off on some local enthusiasts that will take BRAG to a new level.

I believe the Americade is going on right now in Lake George, just north of you. I lived in Glens Falls for many years before running to the deserts of Arizona to hide from the snow.
there are some great roads out there. Try route 9L north, and then head up into the Adirondacks to Tupper lake. Great roads.
I believe the Louden bike races are going on next week in New Hampshire also. Route 4 across Vermont is always an enjoyable ride to get to NH.

Anyone pick up the latest copy of Cycle World, July issue? They have an article on the BMW K1200s, pic's and all. 'Busa Beater!! I've read some of the discussion about it on here. Now I'll get to read more about it in their "World Exclusive" (sure it was). So far I like one paragraph on page 12, then again, that's as far as I've read so far, just got the mag today.

There was another funny Buell reference in that issue (as I recall) when talking about the Moto Guzi Brevia. I thought about writing them, but didn't, as I understand it was just a joke.

Anyway, they were talking about the Moto Guzi Brevia (a cool little simple street bike), and at one point said "think of it as a Buell Blast done right".

Well, the catch is that the Brevia goes for $7k or something, at which point, the XB9s is arguably the "Buell Blast done right", and makes the Brevia, while still cool looking, pretty weak.

Outrider, thanks for your thought provoking post. my "bagging on BRAG" comment was a little caustic, i admit, but was not directed at you.

i appreciate your compliments. i've had enough experience putting on rides that i'm finally kinda starting to get the process figured out.

what helps, as you stated, is to have ride/event organizers who truly believe in what they are doing (i.e. die hard Buell enthusiasts), and who are as excited about participating in the event as the paying participants.

keep in mind, as some have pointed out here before not everyone feels the need to fuel their Buell fires via organized, group events, and there is nothing wrong with such a mindest. this being the case, not everyone who is passionate about their Buell is going to attend a BRAG function.

as far as i'm concerned, BRAG is ALREADY succesful, regardless that there perhaps could be more attendees at certain events. it used to be that i wasn't truly satisfied unless i could get 50 or 100 people to sign up for something i was organizing.

in retrospect, i believe i was wrong to hold that opinion. these days, if 2 or 3 people show up, great, and let's ride! if 20 or 30 show up, great, let's ride! if 200 or 300 show up, yikes, let's ride!

success shouldn't be measured by quantity, it should be measured by quality. i don't know what the numbers were in terms of participation for the Bringing it Home Rally, but by the accounts it sounds like it was an awesome time, and should provide some great momentum for BRAG as the riding season unfolds.

FB -- good points, and you seem to have come to the same conclusion I am reaching (in terms of numbers of participants) . . . .

your statement about people fueling their BUell fires in ways that have nothing to do with organized events rings very true to me . . . . it all becomes a little more easily understandable when put in the following context . . . . . .

I read, some years ago, I belive in Cycle World, a treatise on HD and their sucess since the management buyout . . . .the author popinted out HOG as a key factor, as it, and this is close toi a quote, "gave the new Harely Rider something to do with his new bike."

I can't speak for others, but I've got a LOT to do with my bike -- a difference between Buell Riders and SOME HD riders, I spose . . .. BRAG has shown me a great time when I've been involved at the national level, allowed me to meet some great, regualr riding buddies at the local level, and has asked for little in the return (dollar wise) . . . not a bad deal

Your day pass idea is good but not practical. I don't know if you guys realized how much this event cost BRAG to put on? The Friday dinner at Lake Lawn cost $40 a person. Just how much do you think it cost BRAG to acquire the private building at Road America and supply all that food and drinks?

Even if you worked most local Buellers could have come to the dinners at lake Lawn? Then go to the races at Road America. $75 seems like a very fair price.

I drove 1250 miles to attend this event. There were also 2 others from Texas as well. Al Lighton drove almost 2500 miles. And you couldn't make it from Brookfield to Delavan in the evenings?

On another topic, I was talking to the owner of StrongArm Sports Apparel (or at least one of them).. They are a new company and would be happy to come up with some sort of 'Sponsor' deals with racers. Not trying to advertise for him, but we've talked a bit and he's ameanable to the idea.

Now, before everyone calls asking for money, they are still new.. So he's more likely to give you stickers/patches and some free under armour like wear. His stuff (so he claims) is just as good as UnderArmour but less expensive. I have no experience with it, so can't give a testimonial.

Check the website out at www.strongarmsports.com and if you are a racer and willing to exchange some space for some gear, drop them a line. Ask for Mordecai, and tell him Peter (the former Lt.) sent ya..

As for the rest, if anyone buys some of it, let us know what you think. I'm thinking of a purchase, but right now have my under leathers gear already.

BuellieDan, no offense to Al at American Sport Bike, 'cause he's certainly One Enthusiastic Bueller, but it's fair to assume that a large part of why he drove so far is to promote his business, and if so, he seems like an unfair example in your post above.
