PS. A 6:30am departure time from SB is reasonable. That would put me in Frazier Park around 8:30am.

I ordered a set or three of the Race Pilots, they are sitting in my room, pretty as can be. I only really need one, if someone else wants one, I'll shoot it off to ya for what I paid, plus shipping.

Jim, since it was you that named "Ferrisville", it seems only fitting that you ride up here and have a look around, right?

between Dino 'n me we can definitely show you the twistiest way from Frazier Park to Yosemite. it's iffy whether the Western Divide will be open by then (snow) but the Bostrom (Hwy 155) up and over Alta Sierra should be, and if it's not i know yet another cool way outta here to the north (i.e. Plan C from the All-Cal BRAG Ride...)

you're talking about a long, hard day in the saddle by going thru F'ville and still reaching Midpines by nightfall, but it's doable. it'd be easier with a small group, and i would encourage you to encourage anyone who wants to have a go at this to be realistic about what they're getting into.

you asked for a route suggestion (this'll bore everyone else to tears) so here goes:

--we meet at Bruce's Truck Stop in Bakersfield (junction of 58/184) at 0930.
--the "back" way to Caliente (a little E of BFL on 58)
--Lion's Trail to Lake Isabella
--the Bostrom up to Glennville
--Jack's Ranch and Old Stage thru Fountain Springs to almost Porterville
--190 to Springville
--Yokohl Valley Road to 198
--198 to Lemoncove
--J21 to 245
--245 to 180 (at the north end of King's Canyon Pk.)
--leave 180 near Squaw Valley and head north thru Piedra, Trimmer, Tollhouse, Pine Ridge, Auberry, North Fork, Oakhurst, Ahwahnee, Nipinnawasee, Mariposa, and into Midpines.

Dino knows the north half of what i just described much better than i do, and i defer to his judgment on any route choices from the turnoff at Squaw Valley and beyond.

i haven't tallied the mileage of the above proposed route, and it may be that i'm being overly optimistic wrt the distance vs. the time available, but there are several "escape clauses" during the day where a more direct route can be chosen on the fly if the group deems it necessary.

i'd be jazzed to guide a small group, and please keep in mind that altho we'd be doing some serious burnin' to reach Midpines in the time alloted, it'd be done safely and sanely and with concern for everyone's well-being.

Hi Ferris,

Ha, I don't think I named it Ferrisville so much as I recognized the nature of that place and revealed it to others. It's a gift I have. ; )

Yes, this will be a long hard day in the saddle and it's not going to be for the faint of heart. Conveniently those that ride with me regularly know that I like these types of adventures and we've done them before. I'm not into freeway riding don't ya' know...

Yes, it will be small group - I'd guess 2 to 4 people unless some other Buellers choose to join in. I expect most folks will go the easy way up. The ones that come with me to Ferrisville will be types that move right along but at a sane pace. I'm sure you know what I mean. We don't want to actually eat any cows until dinner time.

Regarding the "escape" options, we anticipated that. If we get tired or just aren't making enough progress we can always find a spot to head back to the freeway. And we've all ridden at night before too... But it's not as much fun.

So you're up for this? We're planning on taking off Friday, April 30th and heading up to YoBug for Friday and Saturday night. Actually, about 15-20 folks already have reservations up at Yo Bug last I heard. Should be a fun weekend.

Ferris, thanks for all the help. I'll save the routing and we'd be honored if you'd lead this little expedtion through Ferrisville.

Hey guys,
More than likely I'll be with Kidcoocoo on the way up to meet Jim, would be nice if cafe Bill could join us too. This should be quite an adventure.

Hmmm...how to make my 9R into a 9T for the trip?...hmmm.

am i up for this? i LIVE for stuff like this! as far as it being on a Friday, well, being self-employed has its perks...

Bruce's Truck Stop is on the NE side of the 58/184 junction. 184 is also called the Weedpatch Hwy, and if you guys exit 99N onto 184 at Wheeler Ridge (just N of Frazier Park) it'll take you right to it.

i suggest that we should not plan on grabbing a meal at Bruce's and simply use it as a convenient meeting place, as Denise will want to ply us with burgers here at the Dome on the way thru. we'll have the BBQ and fixin's ready in advance so that we can get in and get out lickety split.

oh, as far as the riding at night thing, i know we can if we HAVE to, but my goal is to avoid that at almost all costs. i prefer my venison on a plate...

i imagine Dino will chime in here later, after he gets to work.

i'm in.

Well, I could probably be convinced to drag my sorry a$$ out into the spring sunshine for a ride through the mountains.

I'll be in a boring meeting all morning...that should give me a chance to calculate the mileage of the route you suggested from Thunderdome to Midpine.

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's parliament impeached President Roh Moo-hyun on Friday, suspending him from office amid chaotic scenes and thrusting the country into unprecedented economic and political uncertainty...U.S. and South Korean military officials will meet on Saturday to discuss security -- there are 37,000 U.S. troops in South Korea....

as of about three weeks ago, my son Wade is one of those troops.

i spoke with him via cell phone yesterday afternoon, and he was enjoying an "Olympics"-style games and competition with about 10,000 of his fellow soldiers in Daegu.

at 3 a.m. this morning he said he was in full battle gear, ready for the worst.

i pray it doesn't come to that.

South Korea's political history is stormy, for certain, and much noisier than our . . .still and all, the times it's broken down completely are few and far between . . . .the Korean people are aces, and feel strongly bout damn near everything . . . ..

got my fingers crossed for Wade . . . .the good news is that the troopers in Korea are well-equiped, well trained, and, from what I hear, well lead . . . . .

Ferris,
I served 2 tours in Korea 90-91 and 97-98. These kind of things are pretty normal in Korea. In 97 it was the fall of the asian economy and a former president was up on charges for stealing and murder that was the issue. In 91 it was the first Desert Storm in which Korea was out Ally. Both times it went without a hitch and I would expect nothing different this time. Just tell him to stay away from the Soju!!

Ferris - I don't have accurate mileages for all the legs yet, but a close estimate for Kernville to Midpine via every available curve is 285 mi.

Tell Wade our thought are with him.

dare i ask what "Soju" is???

I'm thinkin', probably not.

"Soju, a distilled liquor, was introduced
from China the late 13th century during the Koryo dynasty."

Amazing the things you learn on BadWeb.
