Uhm...if you take a good look at the motorcycle industry, they had advanced notice of these changes and are already incorporating them on bikes. I love where they get their statistics from. On a per motorcycle VS per car case. Gee I could have swore there were at least 100 cars to my one motorcycle on the road...

Jim, thanks for the thanks.

none of this stuff (Blue Groove/Northwest, SPLASH, the Border Raid, Four-Play, Oktoberfast, etc., etc., etc.) would've ever happened, nor flourished, without zanies like you and me and the rest of us (yes, Dino, that even includes YOUR bad self :-) who just don't know when to say when.

i hope we never do.

Santa was good to me this year, courtesy of a wonderful son (Wade), and a darling daughter (Brynn), and a Very Good Friend (Denise) with all the right "connections" (Tat).

Merry Christmas Erik. :)

Merry Christmas Court. :)

Merry Christmas Blake. :)

Merry Christmas Tat and Maria. :) :)

Merry Christmas BADWEB and all Hooligans worldwide. :)

Merry Christmas, everyone (Happy Holidays to the rest of you all).

My best bud Brian (stingaroo) and I had a good ride on Tuesday, hoping to have another one before the bad weather sets in again.

Everyone be sure to say a prayer for all of our brothers overseas before retiring for the night.

quote:

EPA said it would reduce pollution from motorcycles, which produce more harmful exhaust per mile than cars or large SUVs

As I understand it those are the facts. Next time you ride your bike look over at the SUV next to you and realize that the emissions coming from his tailpipe are far cleaner than those coming from your Buell. Or mine... Stats I've seen indicate that a Buell like mine (S2) pollutes about 3 times as much per mile driven as a car does....

As for "fairness" the EPA measures emissions per mile driven, that's about as fair as it can get. That way motorcycles get full benefit for their superior fuel efficiency yet they're still far behind modern autos/SUV's/pickup trucks when it comes to emissions control.

Unless you have one of the new XB12's which are reported to be so clean that they nearly meet the 2007 requirements *now*. Several Hondas are 2007 compliant now. No CAT either.

Additionally, many motorcyclists, in an effort to save weight (or remove an ugly bit?) remove the charcoal canister from their bikes. No performance gain whatsoever. But at that point any time your fuel tank heats up in the sun the VOX just go raw right into the atmosphere. It's like pouring raw fuel onto the sidewalk. Plus it hurts your fuel economy... And it makes your bike one of the "dirtiest" on the road.

YMMV.

This is fun! But why is 334.3 the best I've seen? Is that where it maxes out? Well I got it too (gotta keep the Sportster List Race Team in the hunt). Merry Christmas All!!!

Ferris,
Thank you sir Thong rider. It was a wonderful day spent with family and very good friends. Merry Christmas to you and all your near and dear ones.

Jim,
"Several Hondas are 2007 compliant now. No CAT either."
Cool. Which ones? Any sport bikes?

Todd,
"That may cause the end to aircooled HD's"
That is a complete myth with no basis in fact. It is a popular myth though. I once bought into it myself. In truth, air cooled engines can outperform liquid cooled engines in exhaust emissions performance. Liquid cooled engines take much longer to heat up and while doing so are running very rich and spewing hydrocarbons out the exhaust. Blowby get recycled on both engines, so any hydrocarbons there get another chance at combustion. Buell meet the standards with no catalytic converter. Most other sport bikes must use catalytic converters to meet emissions requirements. Buells rule! :)

Blake...According to Erik at the 20th Anniversary Banquet, the XB12 set up just missed the CARB 2008 standards by an almost insignificant amount and he is confident that Buell will meet or beat these standards in the near future.

Wish you had been able to attend the Banquet, you would have loved Erik's presentation. The man is truly a gift to humanity.

Exactly. All the naysayers predicting doom & gloom for HD's air cooled engines and making the EPA out to be the Evil Empire have little basis in fact. Buell has already proven that HD has the technology. Plus the new XB12's aren't exactly slouches on the dyno...

My bad. I meant that the Buell XB12 had no CAT. I'm not sure if the Honda's have them or not. I have read that the new VFR and the new Goldwing already meet the proposed standards. Not sure if the Hondas have CATs or not.

Personally I am impressed with the muffler technology in the new XB12S. The bike runs clean and fast. Not sure why anyone would complain about that.

I have yet to see another new model bike that does not use some type of catalytic converter. Not saying they don't exist, just that every new bike I've seen evaluated recently seems to have one.

Dana,
ME TOO!!! :D Too bad it is prohibitively long. If we could compress it and turn it into an mpeg I'd be happy to put it on the site for download by registered users. Someone here should be willing to do the tape to mpeg conversion for us. That'd be a lot less trouble than having to send it out. But it would end up being at least 100 MB and so too large to be suited for download. UNLESS... just do the audio portion. That would be fine no?

For those that want the tape... If you are willing, go ahead and start a topic on the Quick Board to tell people where and how much $$ to send for a copy. If you are willing. :D

Well, the CATs are magic. Truly. They take nasty molecules and change them into "nice" ones.... You gotta love it. I'm betting HD/Buell will figure out a way to get there without one. They're awfully close now...

I'm pretty sure even HD is using catalytic converters on their cruisers.

Dana,
No problem. Hey if you just want to hand the job off to a local business who does that sort of thing that would be fine. Don't put yourself out. I know you are not out to gouge us in some silly get rich quick scheme. Now if the ad shows up on the Brion-James site, then you may be in trouble. ;) LOL

Bad, i'm serious, you name your price for the tape, and the people who want it will pay, gladly.

anything above and beyond what you think you and your wife deserve/feel comfortable with for your effort and time and shipping, etc., donate to a worthy charity on behalf of Buell motorcycles and the people who ride them.

we're in.

It absolutely rocks, I love it, its like it was designed with me in mind from the start. Its blue, brand new 2001 model. I am soooo happy. I only got to put 100 miles on it today though. They did not give me an owners manual though, said they would order me one, but I wont hold my breath... Meantime I have some really basic I should already know type of questions I need to ask someone. Could somebody call me 909 265 6561 and let me pick your brain for a minute please. Thanks.

If you can make me a copy, I can rack off a ton or them to people as well. I have plenty of time in the winter, little to wrench on and the co-op job and all. If you let me know, I'll pack both VCRs before I take off for Iowa.

Soundblast, The dipstick is part of the oil filler cap. This one is hidden under the saddle. The saddle is screwed on the frame with an hand screw underneath: Above the rear tire.
Unscrewed you can pull the saddle rearward and up ward, so the fork will come free from under the gas tank.
You can email me because I am at home this afternoon and will check my mailbox at regular intervals. (If you can follow my somewhat twisted directions) BTW: Don`t overfill the oil: Read immediately after shutting down the engine. I keep the level from just hitting the dipstick till just above the LOW mark. This prevents oils spewing out of the vent (on your rear tire) Oh yes, my email address is idz@euronet.nl
I will place it again on my profile: The streams of Spam come from another source.
