EBear and anybody else interested.A trust fund was set up for the family of the firefighter killed in the San Diego fires.
Trust funds have been set up for the Rucker and McDonald families. The funds are “The Steven Rucker Fund” and “The Doug McDonald Fund” both at the Bank of Marin. For more information regarding donations, please call the Bank of Marin at (415) 899-7338.

Steve Rucker was killed and Doug was burned over 27% and is still on a ventilator in critical condition, but expected to recover.
One of the crews we sent to SD was 2 doors down from the house where Steve was killed and are being debriefed and sent home tomorrow.Don't know how much they were involved yet, must have sucked ,though.

8,000 miles on a 2002 bike? I'd say you're probably within the factory warranty period and all costs should be covered

Doubt it very very highly.

Moreover, at 8200 miles, it's H-D/Buell's problem - not yours. Let 'em know you're pissed & will not be blown off.

They dont care if you are pissed off or not. Seriously, why should they care? just another person pissing in the ocean & it doesnt matter to them nor do they care.

To put it bluntly; I'm afraid you're SOL... I really, really, really doubt you have a chance of any good faith repairs either from the dealer or Buell....

That is an accurate statement.

CJ,

I take it you might be from them parts?

I always did like the area, spent the better part of 8 yrs stationed at LRAFB. Spent a good chunk of the time I was home riding the central north area. I am looking forward to BUELLing my way around there this time.

Bart:

This is like getting a lesson in morals in a brothel.

Fact it....it depends.

E-mail the particulars to me if you would. I haven't been reading all this, but I will read them and share my thoughts with you.

Be certain to include your name, contact info, dealer info, VIN and so forth.

Thanks,

Lived my whole life (and I ain't young) in Camden AR, until the last 3 here in Wisconsin, it's about 2 hours south of Little Rock. Have family in LR though and spent a LOT of time there too !!

Will go back for a visit this month to see my son whose going to visit before leaving for Turkey for a year (he's in the AF) !!

I STILL MISS AR !!! Enjoy your time there !

Smoke,

Sure is.

From what has been passed on to me.....Lockheed shut down earlier this year. We are moving in to start the mod line back up. The best part is I can stop thinking about crash-hawks. I get to go back to my favorite airframe.

Lots of plusses to going back there for me. Gots to be on the road by tuesday noon and there by fri morn. Should work.....I did not unpack everything this last time.....

CJ,

how long has the kid been in? I did 10+ active, with another five in the reserves. Most of my active was spent assigned to LR. Of that I spent at least half in europe.

I heard of a similar accident where guys on a construction site had a bottle in a closed conex trailer, the guy opened the door, while smoking, andn landed at the other side of a 1000MW plant.

JW...you just provide me with this week's "Tuesday Toolbox Talk".

Thanks!

Peter,

I figured that was Blake bidding on the puppy. It would be sweet to snag it. On another topic, a bud of mine just purchased a black 2003 K1200RS for $12,000 in CA. It's loaded with extras too and not even scratch or nick on the puppy. Great time to buy shit if you have the bucks since the economy is totally worthless here.

Loki, over four years now he re-enlisted he actually likes it ! He was in London 2 years, these last two years in Albuquerque NM and now Turkey a year with his follow up base being in Tokyo Japan, which he's also excited about !

LRAFB is pretty nice, if he ever gets stationed there I'd move back in a heartbeat !!

Steve,

It happened on Monday the 29th of September. A fitter with a work van left an E size Oxygen and Acetylene cylinder on the back seat of a Toyota dual cab over the weekend. The Acetylene cylinder must not have fully closed and a small leak occurred.

Over the weekend the Acetylene had accumulated in the van. On the Monday morning the fitter approached the van and opened the door, a large explosion took place. The belief is the ignition could have been caused by either the internal light, the automatic door control or by a mobile phone which was on the front seat of the van. The fellow was also a smoker. He has damage to his ear drums and facial damage. As you can see by the attached photos he was very lucky.

Court,
What was the deal with the commemerative S2 covers.
Was it only specific 95 S2's that had them available? Or was one available for each bike but purchased separately?

Just wondering.

BTW, can you run a VIN for me? Curious about the build date and factory color on mine.

Here's the VIN if you get a chance.
VIN 4MZRT11H3S3001178

Thanks!

Here ya go Court:

-Company Policy

Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water.

After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked.

Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again
approaches the stairs to try for the banana. Why not? Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been done around here.

And that, my friends, is how a company policy begins.

DaveGess,

thanks for the heads-up w/ the link.

question: where did 'Vetter' come from / mean?

edited here: a little Google research and I believe (Craig) Vetter had a hand in the development of the bodywork of the RR1000.

also found a radio interview with Erik from September. click here and go to the Sept. 9 interview. There's an interview with Craig Vetter on the 15th.
