Henrik,
Sorry to hear about your friend Charlie. It's been a rough couple of weeks is an understatement.
Scrap,
What happened??!? I was assuming you were on your way to ride the RRS2 this week, I guess that's not happening?

Dismantle Heads and Pistons and soak in a tub of Solvent.
Or, use a spray solvent that won't harm seals etc.
Marvelous Mystery oil? Or, ship them or take them to your nearest race shop. OR, ship them to
a place like Nallins Racing.

See, if you'd stop by the board (or the country, for that matter) more than once every Quentin Tarantino opening you'd know these things.

Ok, just who the hell are these guys & why havent we heard of them?

Six Buell dealer employees also accompanied the group, chosen based on their outstanding Buell sales performance; Dave Kiesow of Illinois Buell in Berwyn, Ill., Phil Smith of Santa Barbara Buell in Carpinteria, Calif., Matt Blackney of Century Buell in Medina, Ohio, Eddie Arb of Capitol City Buell in Madison, Wis., Jan Dordick of Woodstock Buell in Kingston, N.Y., and Bruce Minor of Valley Buell in Wheeling, W.Va.

Capitol city In Madison Wi? Ya have to be kidding me. Was in there last year, the wife & I rode both bikes up. Couldnt have gotten a shittier response when I asked "where's your Buell stuff?".
And all they had were 2 Blasts. No t-shirts, no axle covers, nothing.

Dave S......Is this a rigged contest or what?? Obviously you need to cut your hair & shape up.

Dyna, I've met Phil Smith at Santa Barbara HD/Buell. They've only been a Buell dealer for a short while (prior ownership was HD only) so the 'sales performance' award is interesting.

They've normally only got a few new Buells in stock although they have a healthy used Buell selection (X1's and M2's primarily).

They've got 1 XB9S (black) as well as a 12R and 12S in stock. At least they did a week ago.

They don't, to my knowledge, have a BRAG Chapter. I've asked.

Dyna,

That is the key. There are carrying costs associated with keeping stock, and the less you keep on hand, the better.

They must have gone one step further and figured if you don't stock anything, then you are way ahead of the game.

Put HD of Stamford on the list since they have nothing to speak of and apparently are putting the Buell line out to pasture. Even funnier is that I gave them a call to see about a Firebolt and they called me back a week after I bought it somewhere else. No wonder...

Santa Barbara sales winner? Give me a break!? Glendale HD/Buell (CA) I know has sold every 12 they can get. None on the property. They were way overstocked on tube bikes in '02 but got them all out the door. They stock shirts, parts, and have a good Buell mechanic. And many of their employees own Buells and ride them to work each day.

the following is from Saturday's pre-game festivities...
-----------------------------------------
Oktoberfast
October 11-13, 2003
Ferrisville, California USA

Welcome Hooligans to the first annual (hopefully…) Oktoberfast! WOO frikkin’ HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d like to thank Eric Barrows, aka EBear, for spearheading this little soirée here in the beautiful southern Sierra. I came up with the name (hold the applause, please), but the ride is all EBear’s idea, and he and his friend Cheryl have put a lot of effort into making this a reality.

And I’d like to thank all of you for being here this weekend. It means a lot to have you here as our guests at the fabulous yet intimate and oh-so-casual ThunderDome, and I hope this weekend is full of good rides, good times, and good friendship for us all.

Lastly, I’d like to thank my friend Denise, for putting up with all my shit. How she does it is beyond me, but I am NOT asking any questions!

Today’s ride will come in at about 200 miles, and will have us on some bitchin’ sportbike roads, in some of God’s Own Country. Shortly we’ll be riding at over 7,000 feet of elevation on a road that was originally plotted for last year’s All-Cal BRAG Rally but was snowed out the night before, and we’ll stop for a moment or two to get up close and personal with the largest living things on the planet (besides EBear, that is…), the giant Sequoias.

The route that we’re doing today, as well as for tomorrow’s and Monday’s rides if you’re lucky enough to be able to hang that long, has been chosen for several reasons, and should be unforgettable regardless whether you like to ride at a brisk pace or prefer, instead, to ride at a more leisurely “sightseeing” pace. There are plenty of photo opportunities along the way, each day, and you are encouraged to ride in a manner that allows you to see and sense all that this great country of ours has to offer.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now then, the heavy stuff.

Oktoberfast is NOT a race, timed event, or competition, in spite of the name of this intimate little gathering of friends. The name was chosen because it’s “catchy”, nothing more, nothing less, and in no way, shape, or form should it be construed as anything more than that. Oktoberfast is, at its core, a motorcycle tour.

You are expected to ride safely and legally, and within your individual limits, at all times. There is no onus to ride at, or anywhere near, the limit of your particular abilities, and no one will think any less of you if you choose to ride at a pace that could be considered “slow” by dickwad’s lame-assed definition. That’s a promise from me.

We will wait and “collect the troops” whenever necessary, especially at any turns or forks which take us in a new direction, so there is no need for anyone to ride faster than their normal comfort level in order to "keep up". We will NOT lose you. We WILL wait for you. You do NOT have to "keep up".

If for some reason you DO become inexorably separated, you’ll have detailed route sheets and maps in your possession, along with some contact phone numbers, which we’ll be handing out in a moment.

We are all adults here, and it is expected that you will all ride so as to protect YOUR safety, as well as the safety of your fellow riders, as well as the safety of the general public.

Passing vehicles, especially, should be done in a safe and courteous manner. If you’re passing another motorcycle, PLEASE be sure they know you’re there before you go by them, and give them plenty of room. Nobody likes to be startled, especially a fellow rider.

No passing on the right, please, and no passing in corners.

You owe it to the folks on the road to keep tabs of what’s going on behind you. Check your mirrors often. If you’re holding someone up, it’s no big deal. Simply ease to the right of your lane and casually motion them by with your left hand. This lets them know that YOU know that they’re there, and lets them know they’ve got your “permission” to go by. So simple and easy even a child could do it.

I could go on and on ("No, Ferris, no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!";), but you get the idea.

Ride to lean. Ride to live. Ride to laugh. Any effin’ questions? :)

Now then, the REAL heavy stuff.

This past weekend, at the BRAG Southwest Torque Fest in Arizona, there were two serious motorcycle crashes, one of which claimed the life of a fellow rider. From the accounts it appears that the first crash, on Friday, was alcohol-related. Impaired senses and excessive speed put this individual in the hospital with some pretty serious injuries, and several innocents were placed in mortal danger through no fault of their own.

The fatal crash on Saturday, according to the accounts, happened to an individual who was consistently riding at a pace that was troubling to his peers, and he paid the ultimate price. In the process he took out another rider, who fortunately was able to walk away from the crash, and left behind a grieving girlfriend and three heartbroken children.

As I’ve followed the posts on the internet this week regarding this tragedy, I have pondered at length what to say to you this morning. I love this sport and the people involved. I ask all of you to consider your safety, and the safety of those around you, as you ride this weekend. This stuff should be fun, not tragic.

With due respect to the fact that we’re all adults, I am asking several favors of you this morning.

First, I ask that you not pass me during any of the formal, “organized” riding that we do this weekend. This is for your safety. I know the roads we’ll be riding, and I will set a pace that hopefully everyone will enjoy.

Second, I ask that you consume no alcohol or illegal drugs during any of the riding that we do this weekend. There will be beer aplenty each day when we get back here to the ‘Dome, but I cannot, in good conscience, allow the consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs while we’re riding. There is too much at stake.

I’ve done this stuff since 1996, and have never before implemented rules like these. I hope you understand why I must now. If you don't understand, that’s okay. But if you don’t agree, you can’t ride with us.

Now then, the legal crap.

By signing your name and dating below, you:

1) Agree to agree to the “No Passing Ferris” and “No Drugs or Alcohol When We’re Riding” rules as stated previously.
2) Agree to ride legally, safely, and within your limits at all times.
3) Acknowledge that you’re an adult and aware of the inherent dangers and risks that we face as motorcycle riders, and acknowledge and accept that these risks will be present during Oktoberfast.

And…

4) You agree to hold harmless everybody involved in putting this shindig together -- whether that somebody is private, corporate, or otherwise -- for anything that may happen this weekend that might cause you pain, anguish, suffering, loss of income, hangover, or hemorrhoids.

Cool?

“Right on, Ferris, I agree!”

I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragedy at the SW Torque Fest. I understand your need to set rules completely. Good on ya', Ferris.

I personally have taken to riding The Pace exclusively. I highly recommend it for those desiring an enjoyable street ride without things getting excessive.

Ride safe, all.

thank you Jim and Bill for your kind words. Oktoberfast was a pretty special time, as the words and pix on the Quick Board and Tale Section indicate.

the people who camped at our house this weekend are as diverse and unique as they come, with riding skills ranging from mild to wild, but the common thread spinning thru all of us was the bond of friendship and an insatiable passion for the ride.

it was, indeed, an unforgettable weekend :)

Rog, have a good ride to the Gap. I dont know when hunting season starts down there, but if it has started be careful. Have read numerous accounts of asshole hunters tossing rocks or pouring oil in the corners because they are pissed that the bikes scare away their prey.

Ride safe, see ya when ya return.

Now hunting season sounds like a good time to have a "Stealth Performance Pipe." LMAO

A friend led me on a great off road ride in the meadows and mountains above Big Bear, CA a few years back. We were having a great day until I asked what all the guys were doing walking around our there at the lunch stop.

I damned near shit a brick when I heard it was Deer Season. My SuperTrapp was so loud that they must have thought I was driving deer for them otherwise I am sure we would have been harassed (or worse).
