US66:

I know what you mean about "character". That is the principal reason Ducati and HD owners receive when they purchase a bike. I always tell people "I don't care how good it is or what a good deal it might be" if it doesn't look good I don't care for it.

With two teenagers, one on his way to college, I had to give up (postpone is a better word) the character in exchange for cheapness and performance. I do think the R1 can acquire some when it get Ohlins suspension and CF wheels and I ge rid of all the decals.

The best seat for solo tail S1's is here.

When I have the TwinTail on I use a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady. It's not perfect, but the standard seat is unuseable.

Jmartz...See ya when you get here!!! I know you missed connections with MikeJ in June. He was really looking forward to it.

Incidentally, Brew City meets at Hal's on the second Tuesday of the month. Just need to be inside before 7pm when they lock us in. Think you will enjoy watching us trying to solve the worlds problems. LOL

Dyna...Nice post about the Outlaws. Now why don't you post the article that was on the Front Page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about Buell.

Buell Rules and the Outlaws Suck!!! Just ask me why sometime.

I managed to catch part of the radio news on the AM radio yesterday and they were discussing the Outlaws "Club" situation. Two points were brought up that I found interesting:

1. In the near past various citizens were banned from entry to the SummerFest grounds for wearing gang clothing, this was somehow found to be an acceptable banning.

2. There are a whole lot of people currently wandering around the SummerFest grounds wearing their "Club" colors who are not being banned, H.O.G. club is one such group.

The Hupy law firm may be off base a little in their First Ammendment claim, they should have maybe included selective enforcement based on somewhat subjective application of authority.

I won't get into my personal views on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. But I will be watching for various club colors being flown and shown in the next few days. I will say this though, for the next few days it might be good for various members of the Outlaws to be seen walking friendly and sociably with members of other clubs such as the H.A. if they want to lend any credence to upcoming defenses and charges.

There's good folk and bad folk in almost any group or club. Let's just hope the old "leave your attitudes at the border" prevails this week.

And as a side note, while in LasVegas in July we saw a group of clean cut neat and orderly clean clothed gentlemen hanging out in a loose scattering in the old town section wearing Hells Angels colors. Not one looked over 30, and not one looked dirty or road worn. For a moment I thought it was a photo shoot of some sort but there wasn't a camera crew in sight. Were they the "new biker" types, or just another LasVegas anomoly?

Oh well.

Down at the Broken Oar bar they have a no colors deal & this means everyone. HA, Outlaws, HOG, etc all have to remove any colors or you simply dont come in.

Brake Bleeding --

Snail, I tried your trick (zip-tie the lever in tight overnight) . . . . as I've been trying to get rid of the "mushiness" in my Y2K Ma Deuece front brake since I took delivery (including power-bleeding from teh resevoir), I figured it was worth a try . . .. .

still not quite a immediate as I'd like it, but it certainly did make a measureable differnece in the feel of the brake . . . .thanks for the tip!

I had an interesting experience last night, that illustrates how a company’s marketing efforts can backfire, especially if those efforts are embraced by, er, a less-than-entirely intelligent portion of their customers.

I went up to Uke’s H-D/Buell last night for the BRAG meeting, and, since Uke’s is just South of Mecca (which has relocated to Milwaukee for the next couple of weeks), there were a large number of riders from all over the world (Germany and Holland tags were spotted in an entirely unscientific survey).

To help separate the riders from their dollars, marks and guilders, there were also a bunch of vendors set up on Uke’s grounds (and the new dealership facility is really great . . . nice museum inside, lots of bikes for sale, a deli that actually open sometimes, and, of course, three Buell t-shirts (alright, there may be four).

As I was gearing up to leave, a bunch of Japanese Race Reps pulled in . . . .. about 15 . . . . with the usual collection of flipflops, sleeveless tees, and holy jeans serving as protective gear . . .

After I mumbled something middle-aged to myself about lack of good sense, I thought how cool it was that these folks would come into an HD dealer on their scoots . . .. .bikers, like some species of birds, do seem to be inexorably drawn to shiny things, and aforementioned vendors had shiny things in droves . . . . .

As the lead of the column of Race Reps pulled fully into the already crowded lot, this, er, female personage (about 6 foot, 350 pounds, better mustache than I have) bellowed, “Get a real bike!”

I then watched as she waddled back to the trailer holding a couple of new-ish twin-cams (with tags from one state away), leaned and said trailer, and proceeded to damn near flatten the tire. Her little buddy (5 foot, 300 pounds, and a mustache that I surpass, but barely) cackled with glee at her buddy’s wit, humor, and highly developed sense of the human condition.

The column of Race reps looks disgusted, executed pretty snappy u-turns, and left immediately, sensing accurately, I think, that there was nothing they could do that would get them treated like fellow motorcyclists in that crowd.

Too bad, really, Uke’s might have made a sale or two . . .. . . .

Ah well – sorry for the long post, and sucking up of bandwidth, but, damn, wee can, as a community, be our own worst enemies!

I will now fold up my pocket model soap box, and go bother someone else . . . . .

Hello!!!

Do you guys miss me yet??? Just wanted to say my M2 behaved beautifully on the way down here. Thanks to all at Buell and servicing dealership Doc's HD/Buell... I have put over 1500 miles on the bike in the last week and it has been mostly flawless in performance. I am leaving Durham, NC very early on Saturday morning to see how close to Chicago I can get by Saturday night... maybe to catch the tail end of the drag races at Union Grove. Will let you all know when I am back in Cheesehead Land.

Have a safe and fun trip home Charlotte! Blue M2s rule!!! I put on about 1000 miles on my M2 last week and it performed flawlessly. I can't help thinking about James and Newfie though. Riding a Blast from California and an S1 from Newfoundland? Those guys are serious riders!

Nice Shirt!!! Thanks for the reminder on why I hate certain mental midgets and refuse to associate with them.

The inverse is it is nice to see HD trying to impress upon their loyalists that they own Buell and that Buellers aren't the enemy. Hopefully, that will cut down on the number of insults I will receive during the HD 100th.

Speaking of James, he's still here in Iowa. I think that he found the riding around here much more fun than any in California.
Actually the Blast head still didn't show up today. I'm guessing that they've all been sent to Millwaukee for all the Buells that are going to be over there the next week.
It kind of makes me wonder about the next bike I purchase if a traveller has to wait so long to get back on the road again.
But thanks again to Dave for letting him use that beautiful black S3.

Bill nobody is razzing the owners of "other" bikes at all. Today at the fairgrounds I saw a ZX7RR Kawi, a GSXR1000, a number of Kawi & Honda cruisers, etc etc. They were parked right along side the Harleys so its a non-issue. Didnt see many Buells tho, couple of M2's & 1 X1.

What you planning on tomorrow? I am going to hit pilgrim rd early & then do the summerfest grounds deal & the museum. Friday I want to hit all the plant tours.

Iamike...Doubt that the Blast Head is being held in Milwaukee for all the visiting Buellers. Think is is more logical to assume HD is using them all on the new 2004 Sportster line. You know, the classic mentality concerning new (HD) bike sales vs (BMC) customer satisfaction.

Thank God for good business folks like Dave and Waterloo HD/BMC. Without them, the world would be a lot worse.

Dyna...That sound like Utopia. I got the "get a real bike" BS last night pulling up to a 100th gathering a few blocks from the fairgrounds. Then again, you know me...I get bullet proof and shoot back verbally. LOL

Not available to play until noon and need to be home by 5pm to pick up Di. Am heading down to Locust Street for the Porker Fest Thursday evening.

Same for Friday and Saturday. Will be at Hal's both nights. Mitch Ryder on Friday and the Fabulous Thunderbirds on Saturday. After that, anything goes.

Call me around noon and will try and catch up to you. Will email the phone numbers.

Newfie Update - He's in Amhurst tonight, if all goes well he should catch the boat back to the island tomorrow evening !!

He was however, almost arrested in Quebec for going 147km (92mph) in a 100km (62mph), cop pulled him over ! He must have smiled real pretty though cause the cop didn't give him a ticket ! He did complain about his pipe though, claimed it was illegal !

He says his front disc brake roter drive pins are loose though, so he's going to purchase a Red S4T Ducati !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't help thinking about James too. I've done a Cali to Milwaukee trip twice and fortunately have had relatively minor breakdowns to deal with. In both cases though the dealers knew I was a traveller with service problems and went out of their way to put their best people on my job to ensure that I got back on the road ASAP. Superficially thinking, this doesn't seem to be happening in James's case. Wassup, dealer? We want our boy back on the road!

I thought there was a program within the Harley structure whereby a rider on a trip could get parts ASAP even if it meant pulling the parts off bikes on the assembly line. I think I've asked this a year or so ago and was referred to snopes.com or something. I thought the dealership had to mention some magic words such as "bike down - road trip - expedite please", or something like that.

Oh well, if he starts having his mail forewarded from Calif to Iowa we will know it's taking way too long.

Dyna,
I'm off Friday and could be up for a tour loop.

Bill,
I have never once been insulted for the bike I ride. Not even during the 95th when I rode a Honda 450 to some of the events. YMMV, obviously.

Either attendance is down or few of the riders are north of the city. I was expecting to see huge traffic jams of bikes running around. Suburban had some bikes, but not like I expected yet. Guess I need to head south of Brown Deer road.

When working at the Harly plant this past summer in York PA, I noticed employees coming on all kinds of bikes. I rode my Buell and parked with the few other Buell riders. The only employees that got made fun of for riding their bikes to work were the ones with sidecars, Training wheels.
There were many imitation Harleys, as well as one or two Indians in the lot. Well I'm in the middle of class now, so I should start paying attention, but one quick question. Have any of you guys seen the dude out around Pittsburgh, (thats where I last saw him) with the S-3T and sidecar? Looked pretty rad, but would like to know more about it. He looked handicapped, with like an artificial leg. He was ahead of me at a traffic light. alright later fellas

Hmmm...Must just be either being in the wrong place at the wrong time or my charming personality. Oh well...

Sparky...The Dealer taking care of Jprovo is excellent. Is simply a parts hold up for some unknown reason. I simply made an assumption (hopefully, for John, a wrong one) concerning where the parts are at the moment.

Those tank accents are an American Sport Bike exclusive item. They are available in carbon fiber or fiberglass. American Sport Bike is a sponsor of this site and the owner Tat is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

For those of you concerned about JProvo.
We are just waiting for the new head. We did order it as a "down bike" part. James is just enjoying a few days riding around Iowa on the S3 I loaned him. We will have him back on the road as soon as the parts show up.

Ride to the edge!
