Dave/Mikej

perhaps a rotating job assignment is in order? Mike could bolix up Dave's job, while I fubar Mike's, while Dave screws mine up . . . .next week, Mike gets to scarmble my duties, Dave set's my employer on it's ear, and I get to make Dave's empoyer weep . . . .

the cool thing is, the following week, we'd all look like heros!

Ya know, that just might work.

I mean, look what I did to BCBRAG today without even trying.
(I still don't know what all transpired, probably just as well.)

What ia wanna do is go work for an internet design and development firm and learn the business from bottom to top. don't think I can afford to take an entry level job however it would really mess up the old budget. If it wan't for the cash problems I love learning and working with creative people.

This beating on vendors all day has gotten old.

Brad,
Pipe hanger status, see
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/25669.html?1060120681

If any of you tube frame Buellers have any of the 4" diameter cans on your bike (i.e. Supertrapp, Daytona Boss, custom Stranless Specialties, maybe wileyco, etc) and aren't happy with your muffler rear hanger, check out the threads in that posting area above. I may have a decent solution for you.

Sure it seems silly to talk about a 5 year old motorcycle as a "classic", but if Buell continues the innovation that has allowed them to catch up with the competition to the logical point at which they leap frog ahead of them, there's no doubt those old tube framers will be treated with a lot of respect by anybody who knows anything about motorcycles.

Alright that does it. After reading this and a conversation with JMartz last night, I am fixing my old S1. The XB12R (red of course) will have to wait until I hit the lottery.

Feeling better now.

Dave... Think about a project management type role. You can get as deep technically as you want, the pay is not entry level, and people who understand how the real world runs and how to organize and keep groups of people effective are critical. I think your experience would look good to somebody doing an interview, if you could backfill some of the technical details (or demonstrate a problem domain expertise).

There are plenty of courses that will rip through the technical stuff pretty quickly. The whole field is quickly reaching that "industrial" sophistication level. It's no longer small teams of creative and productive people, most of the bigger corporate stuff is now probably every bit as industrialized as building factory motorcycles.

The field is out of the garage, and in the factory at east troy. I suspect your role would be very similiar, just a different product.

I have done the thing top to bottom, and am currently consulting at the biggest online information vendor, somebody that has been delivering online content for more then 30 years. Two months of work, and what have I been doing? Fixing C++ errors (const declarations mostly) to move from the 4.2 to the 7.0 versions of Sun's C++ compilier.

It has ups and downs, and pays the rent. Email me offline if you want more gruesome detail. Its a good job and I enjoy it, but I doubt it is much different then any other technical role any more.

Hey Scrap, your profile is all wrong. The question was:

Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): 202.989mph

It ain't askin for the best 2 way average within 60 minutes. Man you been thinkin too hard. You can claim 208 and Aaron has the slip to prove it!

Hey Reep thanks for the sentiment but I gotta tell ya the XB12S is a pussycat next to an S1W (incoming.....tak tak tak tak tak tak ducking}. Ah mine ain't so bad you know, in fact she's bloody excellent once she's breathing again. My problem is finding trust in her reliability once she comes back breathing fire. I guess what I'm really saying is I just don't have the money that I use to so if reliability becomes an issue I'd be dead in the water again if she blew me out. Notice these days how I refer to her as a SHE? My new gentile approach to life Buell LOL.

Anyway no rush now but if you really want to know what does it for me and has done for a long time it's a 1993 TVR Griffith 4.3ltr that's sat in my friends garage with my name on it. It's not for sale but I can buy it from my friend if I want to which would mean selling my older TVR and the big Buell too but neither of us wants to do the deal until at least next spring which will suit me fine. Now that's what I call a mind bending concept.

I'd have to have another motorcycle of course and I'm thinking of maybe something like a Paul Scott or Harris Streetfighter with a Gixer 1100 motor. Something inside is telling me to go back to my roots and that means riding a custom built special. Tell you what though, if I did something like that and parted with the big Buell, I'll still be a fan and would always be open to owning another one. I've irons in the fire and one never knows quite what's around the corner but whatever it is it will certainly involve money so I need to work those irons good and hot but then again once that big hairy (sorry Ralph) Buell catapults me towards the horizon this conversation might just turn into bull shit! Who knows.

Derek, THANKS MAN

Rocket

Paul,

It's a Martek aluminum frame around a Suzuki GSX 1428 engine, with turbocharger and N20. I don't know much about Martek Engineering but I think they went out of business. If you look closely you'll see Martek on the tank. Would love to own one of those puppies!

Last time I was in that part of the world, Martek had disappeared. But there's others just a good, if not better like Spondon and Polygon Engineering to mention just two.

Well I was keeping my shopping list short but I should have said Spondon because that's the puppy I'd want and their swingarm is bent upwards almost opposite to the Martek style but one nice sharp curve upwards and no bracing.

Spondon pic anyone. I've no pics in this most recent pc I'm using these days!

Steve, isn't there a S1 in the UK with a Polygon s.s arm I seem to recall seeing at Cadwell a couple of years ago?

Sean, Yes you are absolutely correct, it belongs to Scoot Winson. Last time I saw him, his S1W also had a Blue paint job and Millenium Cylinders. If you find Polygon's website, their prices aren't quite as exotic as the looks suggest, but I haven't looked in while.

Hey Everybody,

I saw my first XB12S on the road today, black with the amber wheels. It was traveling east down interstate 94 towards Milwaukee. I tried to catch up to it, but traffic was too thick. There here.........
