Matt:
It was e-mailed to me from a friend. I posted it at the yahoo group that Prof (Norm Hardy) started. Or if you'd rather I could e-mail it to you...

My dealer tells me my bike does not have SB B-018. What is it? Can someone point me to where it is on this site, or email me a pdf?

Gawd I hate dealers. When they gaurantee you that you cannot get a recall done in a week, before they even know what it is, something is wrong.

Hein, that was a real good idea two years ago.

Those of you STILL riding around on WP shocks may want to remember this.

From the B-018 RECALL bulletin dated May 13, 1999

GENERAL
Buell Motorcycle Company has learned that certain 1997 and 1998 Buell motorcycles were built with an isolator mount system that could lose clamp load. Should this condition occur, it may allow the engine to move unexpectedly in the frame and cause an unintended distraction to the operator, which could result in an accident. Accordingly, Buell Motorcycle Company is conducting a voluntary recall campaign to formally recall all
potentially affected motorcycles.
This campaign involves all 1997 and 1998 S1 Lightning, S1 White Lightning, M2 Cyclone, S3 Thunderbolt and S3T Thunderbolt model Buell motorcycles manufactured between January
6, 1996 and June 16, 1998.

Service Bulletin B-018 tells how to tighten that front mount onto the head. There's a very specific procedure. I'm not sure if that bulletin is on this site. Let me know if you need it.

Yeah, it says "Do Not Remove" on it, but you just try to remove the exhaust valve with that mount on the head.

The tie-bars align the engine/rear wheel assembly to the frame/front wheel assembly. The way I do it is to strap some square aluminum tubing onto each side of the rear tire, and look at the gap between each tube and the front tire (I've found square tubing to be straighter than channel or angle). I generally adjust the front tie-bar to get that right. Make sure the rear wheel is aligned to the engine properly first before even making this measurement.

Tilt, which is adjusted with the top tie-bar (the one above the center of the engine), I check with a camber gauge on each wheel, to equalize the lean. That 4th link that comes on X1's and S3's, I haven't used one but I'd just put it on with as little preload in either direction as I could.

Note the dates on Anony's and Aaron's posts, things and procedures may or may not have changed. Get current info if at all possible, or at least get current verification.

Mike; I saw those posts, and I'm confused why the front engine mount has anything to do with the WP shock as Anony states.

I am trying to find out if B-018 replaces the front engine mount. My dealer servicee advisor is clueless. He is calling Buell so maybe they will help.

I haven't read the bulletin so I don't know the relationship. If your dealer doesn't know what the bulletin says then they are probably just going by a VIN number accounting of what has and hasn't been completed on your bike. I would think you could call up Buell/H-D customer service and give them your VIN number and they "should" be able to type the number into their system and verify what is lacking on upgrades for your bike. Several of these service bulletins overlap a bit in their coverage in that the engine is integrated into the suspension - hanger-head-block-shock mount. One change can affect the rest. On my M2 the dealer changed the shock but I still have the old muffler front mount, which is fine on my bike as it doesn't eat the rubber hanger isolators (at least I think it's fine on my bike, and I'm not about to pay $100 for the Y-hanger if I don't need it). Maybe Aaron or someone with the PDF of the bulletin can add it to one of the headers, if it isn't already (I couldn't find it).

Neat piece of history. It needs to go to a good home.

Number 8 of 9 has always been for sale, usually around $18,000 or so. Don't know where their reserve price is at.

Last year Warrs in the UK has their RR1200 for sale. With shipping I could have had it for <$13000.
I don't think the RR1200s will sell for near what the RR1000s do.

Cool,

I hope they get what they're asking for the RR1200. Just makes mine worth even more. Glad I didn't sell the DS RR1200 after all.

I want the RR, I'd ride the RR, but can't afford the RR, weeping in the corneRR.
I believe Hal's still has the original granite tires on it (rock hard by now).

Aaron,

Do you know if the polished spun aluminum wheels were an option on the RR1200 (that's listed on E-bay) "or" are those simply the PM wheels?

Quick question for the dumba##,,,,me that is,,,,not having any "sportbike" tire experience, what do I look for (besides total baldness) to tell me if I have life left oin a tire? Its a Dunlop,,207 I believe,,,kinda flat down the middle but still a very little depth to the "tread". Dont laugh tpo hard,,I just dont want to throw money away. Hanks,,,,JM

Jop,
Dump it, it's gone.
If you hit any water with a tire with no center channel left things get very interesting real quick!
When you consider how little rubber you really have on the road at a given moment, it's not an area to save a few bucks.

Oh my Gawd!
I almost started the infamous "contact patch" discussion again!!!!

Those are just the 4 spoke PM wheels.

My bike is the last RR1000 and it came with Dymags. Don McCaw's RR1200 is number 4, which puts it 4 bikes past mine and his has PM's. I don't know what RR1200 numbers 1, 2, & 3 came with but I'd guess PM's. That bike is number 8 so it should've come with 4-spoke PM's. I think all the RS's have 4-spoke PM's as well.
