Guys: I'm thinking of taking a track school (CA Superbike, CLASS, etc.). Has anybody taken one? What should I look for? Should I ride my bike or theirs? Thanks!

1) Yes

2) Close mouth, open ears, learn

3) Yours...you need to know what it will do, how it does it and when it does it under every condition.

Tavs, also think about the American Supercamp. It is a flat track school but you will learn a lot about riding a bike. Also great fun.

1. Is it possible to buy just a frame (without a trade in) for 98 and earlier Buells?

2. If it's a legal thing (serial #'s), then how to the rolling chassie folks sell theirs?

Woa,

Calm down dude, just thought you might of partaken in one of those pups. I recall staying at the Disneyland Hotel years ago and paying $7.00 for a burger. I thought that was totally outrageous at the time, but there's no way I can comprehend the 41 dollar burger.

Thanks Dan, I thought about that, but I'm still interested in knowing my question if anyone knows.

I'm just being silly.....frankly, New York offers a range of dining, both quality and price, that represents a range replicated nowhere in the world.

If you get here, I'll show you a burger that'll stand up with the best of them. Bring no money.

Greatest moment in "guy outta placism" is when a pal did a concert in Central Park and decided to have a party at Le Cirque (Mega $$$) following the gig.

The thing was backed by an industry outfit that HD had pulled out of a number of years ago. The moment they say my name on the guest list I was "disinvited".

A call from a manager solved everything and, in 501's, a KU t-shirt and a pair of Tony Lama's, we hopped outta of the limo and enjoyed a wonderful time.

That's the first night I actually met Joe Parkhurst and it was a "love connection", we spent about 2 hours sharing tales. He passed away on December 5th that year and I considered myself very fortunate to have met one of the folks who's impacted motorcycling so significantly.

Hey...I'm unemployed going on 6 months, your unemployed, why not you come here and we'll dosey doe you about the city? Besides....I have plans for you we need to talk about . . . :)

P.S. - I am in the middle of a major (at least it's turning into one, painting project and have an important question: Strictly speaking, is there any reason that Labradors HAVE to be Chocolate, Yellow or Black? If anyone knows, please advise...I MAY have another problem on my hands)

Jim, it's been a long time, 5 years, but whn I was handling it Buell or HD would only sell you a chassis if you could provide proof that your old one was dead. We actually ascked for the steering head with the VIN attached.

Legit racers could get a frame BUT it would be clearly stamped with a not for street use kinda thing so that you could not register it.

Buell, in the bad ole days before HD, sold some kits but these were essentially complet motorcycles with out VIN's that required some minimum assembly and could be registered as "homebuilt"

I do not think anyone is getting frames form Buell or HD except under the above circumstances.

By rolling chassis folks who do you mean? Are these guys selling HD clones? Is someone selling Buells that way?

If HD it is most likely a clone chassis. Many of those are available

You know too much for my own good...one fart smeller!

Frames and motor cases REQUIRE either a frame head section or the old cases in exchange.

In the "good old days" the "core" had to arrive before the new would be released.

Dealers squaked about "slow parts" due to the paperwork involved and they had to tear a wreck down, send, store project, wait, bring out outta the back room, rebuild...."wait" being the most protracted part of that process.

In response to outcry, the system was changed to allow the frame/cases to be shipped on a special "certified receipt - have to sign for it - super tracked" kinda shipment (i.e. eliminate the "we never got it" option" ) and the dealer had some days ( I think 10) to have the old core expressed back or he got a mega charge to his dealer account.

There are...like many other things rare exceptions :)

Bomber...you alzeheimic fool. YES, I got the assorted tank stickers that you returned. I also got the WAY COOL thingy you sent and it is awesome! I posted, on the Home Court area a Thank You hoping you'd see it.....I'd forgotten your age and precarious cognative retention.

Dave asked:

Dave,

I was talking about all the guys selling the Harley chassis clones. No one I know of (or heard of) is selling Buells that way, meaning clones. I simply want a couple of the 98 or earlier frames (S1, S2 and RR1200) or rolling chassis (so to speak) that haven't been wrecked or bent.

I had heard the same stories as you've mentioned about the Buell frames. Just would like to know why.

Oops ... looks like Court just answered my question.

Cheers,

Just popping in to announce that my racing effort will officially be off the ground this Sunday. I'm dead broke and still laking in some supplies, but I will be on the big track at Willow Springs campaigning my SV.

The bike is buttoned up, my meager supplies are laid out and my neighbor has been kind enough to loan me his truck.

Special thanks to Sleeper and Henrick for sound SV advice, to Aaron for inspiring me to get off my ass and do this, and to Choptop for...what the hell has Chop done, anyway?

Hey Vic,

Why not start a SV fund (SacBORG Vic fund) racing effort? Should be able to get a few hundred bucks for supplies.

Many start here and work backwards, but somehow their lives just get more fun and enjoyable...go figure?

Ride safe and all that gobblydigook, but most importantly, HAVE FUN.

I know where you should be able to pick up a '98 S1W frame for $350, with title, in the US.

Jim, if you need a frame with a VIN look for a junked bike and try to order a replacement for that.

The reason why they have the system in palce that they do is two fold, first the Feds like bikes that are registered as street legal machines built by manufactuers and meeting Federal rules to actually be such. They are funny that way.

HD has another reason, They don't anybody but them building Harleys and they realy get cranky when people use stolen parts to build bike with legitamite VIN serial numbers. Can't imagine why ;)

Jim they don't. They just copy a frame and you either buy a clone engine or use one out of your old bike. Only the few who are shipping complete bikes need to worry about VIN and other government regs.

FUELL Thanks. Fun to see some old stuff published. I am so swamped I can't get much up on the web site. The next issue may also have some of mine.

I hate to contradict master Dave, Buuuuuuuuut a lot of the clone frame makers are supplying their frames WITH a VIN and a title or bill of sale. If you check with guys like Atlas, West Coast Choppers, Ron Simms, Exile ETC.. you'll find they do follow federal standards on this.

Vik, you're a stud among studs!

IF i get my VFR back together in time (checking valve clearances on the thing is SUCH a drag), i might ride down to the Springs and root you on.

look for my friend Bob Setbacken, he typically pits near turn one, rides a black White Lightning, speaks Italian with a slight Santa Barbara-esque accent, has been known to let me buy too many rounds of Tequila...

Good luck to ya... Post your experiences! I hope to bust my 2 wheeled track cherry this year...
