PhillyBlast, I'll trade 5min with the RS for 5min of video of your neighbors....

;)

Anyone know the stock suspension settings for an RS? The manual talks about how to set them, but not what the factory set them at.

Vik:

How about a rousing Sacborg sendoff? F*** OFF!

Sorry to hear you got rid of the X1 - I remember your enthusiasm when you first bought it. We used to talk at the ASB Night when it was at the Firehouse Grill. I hope your new ride keeps you happy.

For all my friends who've been to my house and met our little Rottie ... say a prayer for her, we had to put her down this morning. Just this last week the cancer really got ahold of her and we had no choice. I'm sure she's in dog heaven, chasing UPS trucks and eating t-bone steaks. She was a sweet family dog and very smart, we'll miss her.

Josh,
I must be getting old, because the thought of riding the RS excites me more than the thought of the video. Oh, wait, I'll be IN the video. :0
Plans for the jacuzzi installation are well underway at Philly's place. And FYI for next year in Sept. I just bought a well used but excellent condition Jeep Cherokee with air-conditioning and a CD player, so we can take my wheels next time.

Peter,

Yes, it was to the ebay buyer. Nice guy with a total couter-culture edge. The bike has gone on to a good home.

It was a bit painfull to let it go. I've got blood sweat and tears into that bike. Now that it is gone, though, I can get my racing effort into full swing.

Ken:

I'll be down at the Anniv. party for ASBN. I still like Buells and have a a genuine enthusiasm for the brand. I think an S1 will find its way into my garage before too much time passes.

Vic,

Must mean that we are close to the bottom in tube frame resale, and the rest of us will atart to see a rise in price.

Also thanks to Aarons records, older Buells are gaining some notoriety

Aaron;
Sorry to hear about your loss. I only met her once but, I'm sure she's in a better place. My first dog (when he was 14)I had to have the Vet put him under while I held him, not an easy task. It was his time, that spark of life in his eyes was gone. Your fortunate to have some other canine friends to help you and yours along.

Aaron,
Words can't express how sorry I am to hear about your loss. Rotties in general are great dogs and Opie was a cut above the usual. Sophie, my Am Staff mix, chewed the yellow pages in her honor while I was out tonight. Opie was a sweetheart and a gamer while we were all invading her house in Sept. I pray that in Dog Heaven she finally catches that b*****d in brown.

New kid needs advice! Buell people: This is my first post and I'm about to pick up my first Buell. I accidentally bought it on Ebay (really!) and will be flying to Phoenix on November 6th to ride it back to Seattle. It's a 98 S3/T Thunderbolt with less than 2000 miles on it. I'm not sure if that is enough miles to break it in and want to know if I should do anything special to run it 2000 miles back to Seattle? The bike is mint condition and some mods (silencer). If there are any club members in Phoenix I would sure appreciate them contacting me and maybe getting together to preflight the bike. I have owned almost all classic BMW's up until now. Your comments will be much appreciated!

Aaron, Susan,

Opie was a wonderful dog. I had the pleasure of spending a few moments scratching her ears out on the porch on that early after-party Sunday morning. She was genuinely affectionate, a great dog who had a great family and I'm sure a great life.

Here's a token idea... In honor and memorium of Opie's loyalty and fun loving spirit, let's give her name to your LSR bike. That will help to cement record breaking M-PG and MPS-PG runs next year. :D

To Buell Owners,

Thanks for all your support over on the new ATC web-site. www.americanthunderbike.org

With sites like BadWeb which I visit daily. The ATC site and many others sites, I hope all you Buell heads have enough to read about your bikes.

We are about half way done with the new Weather Report Magazine which can be found on the site by clicking the E-zine button. With the lost of Battle2win I'm really turning up the motors on getting this completed. So come on over and take a look. Blake thanks for coming over and registering already.

Later,
Scott Berry
Director of ATC

Hey Tan Steve, two grand is "broken in" enough to have fun riding. Expect it to loosen up a fair bit more as you put some miles on it.

And be very careful with the tires. With that few miles on it those are probably the original skins and are pretty slippery by now.

ToasterTan,

You might ask if the pilot (low speed) jet has been upgraded to a size 45 from the stock 42. And as old as the bike is you would do well to check for intake manifold seal leaks. Hold the bike at a fast idle, ~2,000 rpm, while spraying WD-40 or contact cleaner all around each seal, especially the ones at each cylinder head interface. If the idle drops noticeably, you have an intake seal leak. It should be repaired using new seals before your long ride back home. Otherwise you might risk overheating and piston damage or worse.

Do NOT overfill the oil. Only check/fill just after the bike has been run. Leave the level below the full mark to avoid excess oil spewage from the crankcase breathers.

Set up the bike with all your gear, then with you on it in riding position have someone check/measure the front and rear suspension sag. Make sure they are within spec. Set damping adjusters per settings prescribed for the recall shock (if it has the recall shock) in the BadWeB Knowledge Vault's "Suspension..." page.

Adjust levers and pedals for good ergonomic fit. Clutch pull is heavy, so ensure that the lever position is in plane with your forearm and the grip, so you don't have to reach back-up-and-over to grab it. Same for the brake lever. :)

Lubricate clutch and throttle cables. Change engine oil&filter and transmission/primary oil.

Check tire pressures.

Check spark plugs, they should be the new 10R12 models instead of the hotter 6R12 models.

Drive belt tension should allow from 1.5" to 1.75" of total up/down slack (~10 LB force up/down at belt's lower run midpoint) with bike in neutral, resting on sidestand, with rear suspension fully unloaded. This differs from what your owner's manual will say, but as of '99 is the newer more reliable method of setting belt tension.

Check the primary chain tension per your manual.

Keep the revs above 2700, lugging the big twin is very bad for the drivetrain. The rev limiter kicks in at 6,800 rpm which will be around 60 mph in 2nd gear. :D The 10:1 compression long stroking engine requires super-unleaded grade fuel, 93 Octane (R+M)/2 at/near sea level.

Read the owner's manual. Have a great ride home! :D

Let us know how it goes.

Jeez Blake, Vik,

It was just a joke, Vik was fishing for comments about his sale, i was just giving him a little jab, relating to some of his buell negativism.

Aaron, sorry about Rottie
