Lookin' forward to your CD's. I forgot the name of the manufacturer of your riding pants? I think I remember you saying they were made in Nederland? Do they have a web site?

And Paulinoz, I kinda liked your swoopy riding boots. Who makes those things?

Cecil, you have come a long way since you lost your mind. Your healing process is nearly complete, but the '99 and '00 Suzuki Hayabusas are the ALL TIME fastest production vehicles sold. Period, end of discussion.

Good luck on the salt Jim, Arron, Chop, and everyone else.

Well, let me add my two cents to the Buell love/hate fest. I love my Buell. It's the nicest vehicle I have. My attitude is tempered by my first vehicle, a four wheel drive 1972 GMC Jimmy that has been in my family since it was new, and has been the only vehicle I have ever had with more than 2 wheels. My pride and joy since 1987. So without further delay:

TOP TEN THINGS MY TRUCK HAS DONE TO PISS ME OFF
(and things my Buell has yet to do)

10. Starter wire caught on fire.
9. Carburetor has caught on fire
8. Random wires under the dash have caught on fire.
7. Rag replacing lost oil filler cap caught on fire, taking out 3 plug wires with it. 300 miles from home.
6. Spring on clutch plate breaks off. Flywheel, clutch and pressure plate replaced.
5. Had a front wheel fall off my truck, while in motion!
4. Water pump failed. 400 miles from home.
3. 3rd gear synchro in tranny worn out. Tranny replaced
2. Gear in rear differential breaks. Rear end replaced.
1. Blown engine. Twice!

It'll take more than a weeping shock and bubbled tank letters to faze me! :) Bring it on Buell! I ain't scared!

(for the record, I still have the truck, I always carry a fire extinguisher and tools, and I have triple A)

Hi Capt they are Alpine-star S-MX Gortex have always had very goog service from Alpine star boots 4th pair I have owned. Deck boots work to keep dry but warmth is a problem and they don t last long if you contact the road with your toe in corners.

"Joking aside Cecil, without Aaron's input in our worldwide community, I wouldn't have met the friends I have now from this Buell thing."

Aaron you have a lot to answer for good luck next week.
Just joking Rocket will give you a 3 am call very soon, have been crook since my retun to Oz.

FMJ good luck next week remeber the axle adjustment extensions warranty has run out , so give them the once over.

Pammy an FZ1 I never thought you would cross to the dark side enjoy it and maybe next year I can get Wes's side of the car key's story.

To all of you heading to the salt good luck and enjoy. Some one post some info as it happens because there is a shi....t load of us out in cyber land who tried to be there in person but the rain goods conspired against us.

Guys, Dale Amsden (rattler) and I went to this event last year, with a Sportster List team bike (Dale's 883 hugger). Not sure it's the same, but last year, the weekend of the race was "deer widow's weekend". I swear every woman in Utah was at that hotel. Friday night was insane. Reserve a room quickly if you haven't done so yet.

Last year we had the most perfect conditions you can imagine. Rock hard salt, literally like asphalt, and calm cool temps. People went REALLY fast. Vesco went 458 in fact. But even the mortals were setting better speeds than they ever had.

I'll bringa laptop and my camera (not sure how much time I'll spend taking pictures though). Henrik, will you be available to receive news & pics and put'em on the team web site?

MikeJ:
I don't buy it. I probably read more than 98% of people out there on MC's. I was reading any internet MC sites before most of my friends even knew they existed. There were not enough Buells around before I bought mine for any one to make comments about. I never heard ONE negative comment about Buells at that time. The pre-95's don't count(even though I didn't hear any thing on them). I knew a few people around that time that had S-2's. At that point they were running great. I know I was one of the first post S-2's in Cali. The info was not there.
That not withstanding, even if there would have been, there is no excuse for what happened.

Anyone reroute the head breathers on an XB yet (atmosphere or catch can)? I know this is a popular mod on the 1200's & was just wondering if it had been done on any 'Bolts or Lightnings. Do they even need it? The XB is supposed to have improved oiling & less puking, but does the new system actually work? Also, anyone tried the race kit air filter & ECM with the stock muffler?

Hey Apex, this ain't the place fer tech questions!

Quote:

Besides I guess someone has to climb Mt Buell & plant the loyalty flag for all of the local Buell monkeys.

That's just ignorant.

This place has really become entertaining. There are a few of you bashing us for liking our P'sOS. I think most Buell enthusiasts do not have brand specific tastes (maybe another poll is in order?). It really isn't fair to look down on Buell owners because of your misfortunes. If you want therapy, there are better places. Please do us that favor . It's one thing to share an experience...whether good or bad...but a few are trying to spread their mysery.

I know Buell isn't making the best bikes out there, but it's still my favorite...not because I'm blind, but because it suits my tastes.

I saw a Honda Hawk today...fairly stock with a nice pipe. What a beautiful bike.

Big J...in 1995 Cycle world tested a pre-producion S1. The rear fender broke and puked oil when it was revved. 1996 or '97 there was an article about an S3T long term testbike...of the problems included broken fairing lowers and various shed exhaust parts. Around that time there were some S2 owners complaining about shedding parts/breaking brackets, and leaking oil on the net. I could try to find all the archived info...and wish I had those magazines with me...but it's not worth it. I researched long and hard before I bought my S1. I took the good with the bad...saw that while some Buells blow, some go the distance...and hoped mine would be one of the latter!

FMJ: if you'll give me a call for a verbal report from Bonneville, I'd be happy to put it on the Elf website.
Aaron: yep, I'll be around, so you can send me pictures/reports etc. and I'll get it out there in cyberspace.

Paul/Snail; please don't make the mistake of seeing Cecil and BrianH as one and the same person. Both well spoken, but very different personality :) You're never alone with a schizophrenic, ya' know ...

To everyone going to Bonneville: have a great time - wish I could be there in person. Instead I'll be rooting from afar (I'll fit right in with the other NYC nut cases :)). Be safe and quick.

Ok I guess apologies are in order.
I'm sorry for the name calling and blaming the rider but you have to admit that many sportbike riders simply ride em into the ground.

Dyna, to insinuate that your riding style caused your problems was not really meant for you personnaly since I don't know you personnaly. I was merely speaking in the general sense.

This site was one of the first sites I found where I could go and see a good crowd of people who were truly helpful and happy with their Buells.

I've ridden Honda's, Kawasaki's, Suzuki's, Yamaha's, and now a Buell. All have had their good and bad points.

I hung out on Sacborg for a while and was totally disgusted with the Cecilitus that sprouted there.

I stated my weight as a matter of proving that my Buell has held up well considering it's duties.

I could be a big ol mean mutha ready to squash you like a bug but in reality I'm just a fat teadybear who really gets pissed over all the Buell bashing which I had previously not seen here.

At least in my experience, Buell customer service has been good and the service problems I have seen have been with HARLEY. I got run around for too long from a HD Stealership and it took a call to Buell customer service to get the part I needed.

I guess like many products nowdays, Buell has good ones and bad ones. Is that an excuse--NO.
If I remember correctly, You stated that you had three engines get toasted. I don't know the details but that seems rather odd, and statistically, it points to an abusive situation as the cause. I'm not pointing fingers here but merely showing how it seems from an outside point of view not knowing your situation.

With all that said, I hope you understand what I meant. My keyboard personality has a tendancy to be more vocal than I am in person so again I apologise.

Now if you don't like Buell's then that's your opinion. However, I don't think it's a good enough excuse to try and ruin everybody elses fun by imposing your negative views on them with repeated attempts at telling them their motorcycle is a POS and how much it sucks.

>You stated that you had three engines get toasted.

I believe he (on separate occasions) dropped a valve once in each head and later (ie now) truly toasted the motor. The 1st 2 occasions should have just resulted in a top end in the cylinder affected (meaning he's exaggerating "3 engines";) but I'm sure he'll respond if Buell has in fact given him a whole new engine twice already.

>repeated attempts at telling them their motorcycle is a POS and how much it sucks.

What I like is all the guys telling everyone they can how bad Buells are... and then complaining about resale value. Let me see, your bike is a complete POS and you want how much for it?

Better yet, there's even been posts on here and other boards from guys who've sold their Buell cause they're terrified about the reliability - and have never themselves had a problem.

Perception=Reality

this has nothing to do with the current state of affairs concerning the "good vs bad" bike/dealer/manufacturer discussion, but i have never understood how a person can justify the statement: i have X dollars invested in my vehicle. if in fact the vehicle was bubbled on display, i would know what he was talking about.
every vehicle that rolls up the miles eventually loses value, with very different rates of loss dependent on the "cool, collector, uniqueness, etc." factor. me, the ones i like i roll till the residual value reaches whatever mythical point where i determine that i want something else or i am just not willing to deal with the aggravation anymore of fixing said vehicle. the ones i don't like , i get rid of as soon as possible at whatever i can get, usually below my cost. generally, i buy used and try to buy the most vehicle for the amount i am willing to spend. i don't have any work performed at any dealer, i usually do my own work other than specialized services. i have never sold any vehicle for more than i paid and haven't paid more than the seller for a vehicle.
sorry for the long post, but:
1. put your vehicle investment in a climate controlled environment and maybe it will appreciate.
2. run the wheels off whatever vehicle you trust/enjoy.
3. get rid of whatever vehicle you don't trust/enjoy.
4. decrease your stress/aggravation level, you'll live longer.
5. deal with it.

Josh, I have stated the exact cause & the repairs numerous times. I never exaggerated & stated Buell replace my engine 3 times. Go back & look it up. I stated that it dropped a valve in the front head & the head, cylinder & piston were replaced, same thing with the rear cylinder. Nothing has been done with this latest engine grenade so far.

This will be the last time I will respond to anything you have to say. I do not attack you personally yet you want to continue to so against me. Have a nice day, prick.

"I don't attack you personally... Have a nice day, prick." :?

Dyna, I don't see where Josh attacked you personally, anywhere. You certainly like to dish it out. Replacing a cylinder head, cylinder and piston does NOT a "new engine" make. Josh was simply and tactfully pointing that fact out. I suggest you make an effort to withstand the critical comments from others without getting your feelings hurt and lashing out with such venom. If you cannot do that, and if you cannot avoid violating the requested decorum of this discussion board, maybe you should rethink your reasons for contributing here. I think we can all appreciate everyones contributions, but not when they sink to personal insult. That goes for all of us. Me included. Thanks for your consideration.

I think I met you once recently in PDC on a ride with Dave. I take it that you are a type A personality?
You seemed to be an ok guy and if you came to one of the Buell gatherings most everyone would get along with you. However your posts are becoming belligerent and that doesn't make many friends. You may not care but it is getting a little annoying. Sure you had problems but let's not beat it into the ground.
Lighten up a little and you'll enjoy life more.
