Y2, I agree you got the raw end of the stick on that exchange. I really thought that the 'drunk snoring' line was funny. Sorry it offended you, I was referring to the exhaust note on your bike.

I do apologize. Hope we can meet up some time and ride, I'd rather make a friend than an enemy.

Most of the fellows on here that jumped your case are friends of mine, and they know better than to take me seriously. I just like to have fun, whether its posting on a board, or out riding a bike.

Y2, i actually enjoyed your post of 10/4, the enthusiasm and the passion, so much so i almost posted kudos at the time.

where you started losing a little luster in my eyes was when you said this: Do i need to tell you what you can do with your 'busa and all the other jap bikes?

and ever since, it seems like you're taking this a bit too personal, and it seems like the maturity you showed in your 10/4 post has been on hiatus.

i don't know you, and sometimes it's hard to tell via the printed word if someone is shooting at you with live rounds or not -- a " :) " once in awhile goes a long way in this regard.

i DO know Paul, however, and he's a fine gentleman, and i THINK he was only lobbing blanks your way with his "drunk snoring" barb.

i could be wrong, and this isn't my fight, and maybe it's not a fight at all, but historicaly the debates on BADWEB that i've appreciated the most have always been the ones where wisdom and maturity and kindness were equally as evident as passion and enthusiasm and zeal.

sorry 'bout the "mean, mean man" jabs, i'll try harder to follow my own advice.

FB :)

Damn Ferris, we invite you to a gunfight and all you show up with is wisdom, maturity, good sense, ...

Hey... I hear what you're saying Ferris, and your calm and objective assessment of the situation may end up getting all the credit for de-escalating this conflict. Gee-dub-ya could use your help.

You say you know Paul and sometimes you aren't sure if he's firing live rounds or blanks. I don't know Paul at all, so I have zero chance of accurately interpreting his comments. From my vantage point, WE were under attack. Not a personal attack against myself, but an attack against something I thought all of us here felt passionately about; BUELLS! This is our house, and resident or guest, I would hope that appropriate behavior would exclude bad-mouthing the reason any of this exists. I wasn't about to put up with it. Hell...I was busy circling the wagons and wondering why no one was helping. The way I was taught, you don't stand around waiting to figure out if they're live rounds or not. You find cover and you return fire. Still sound advice, I think.

Yeah...I was quite surprised and puzzled when I learned that Paul is a fellow bueller, though I could not understand how one could, at the same time, own a Buell and think so little of them. At that point I briefly considered that perhaps Paul's comments may have been "tongue in cheek" but it was too late. Both sides had all of their ICBM's in the air and I was digging in for what appeared to be a lengthy war of attrition.

And since we're fessin' up; I really have nothing against japanese or european bikes or any bikes for that matter. My comments were shaped charges designed to inflict maximum damage. I drive a Toyota truck and I already fessed up about the BMW. I think we all understand that each of us rides for various reasons, and the pleasures we derive from riding also varies, as will the machines we choose to ride. A passion for riding and an appreciation of two-wheeled machinery are the only qualifications. I ride for fun, which cannot be measured in mph, rpm, hp, ft-lbs., etc.

Ferris-thanks for the "officials time-out." The breath of fresh air has cleared my head and I think it's time to move on.

Paul-my sincerest apologies if I misinterpreted your comments. Hope you understand my haste in taking up arms. Can't let anyone walk in here and rub our noses in the dirt.

To All-my apologies for your having to witness all of this, but i hate having sand kicked in my face.

Bob

Paul-

Oops...between laundry duties and hurrying to finish my last post, I completely missed yours.

Whew...what a relief. I thought we actually would never be able to agree on anything and as it turns out, we really have nothing to disagree about; for now anyways. I'm sure we'll eventually find something to disagree about, but I think a nice un-armed exchange of thoughts and ideas should suffice. And, if he's available, we can always let Ferris referee again.

Loki,
An 83 GPZ750 is what I replaced when I bought my Buell...it was pretty clean, 810 big bore, yoshi exhaust, K&N intakes, Targa fiberglass fairing, custom seat, powdercoated everything...but gutless down low and by any modern standards, steered like a truck. But I always loved the lines on that bike.

Well, when you've hung around here long enough, and lurked or hung around some other Buell related sites, you will learn when to choose your battle and when not to. When you've come to sort of understand what a "Cecil" is you will learn to recognize a rant as opposed to an attack, and will learn to recognize the symptoms as they begin to appear in others and the background underlaying reasons behind their descalade.

I just saw where things were going and glossed over the "discussion". An internet site is probably the best place for the old adage of "sticks and stones" for here any sticks and stones are mainly verbal (discounting Rocket's basement bricks of course).

Live and learn, forgive and forget, go for a ride. It's all about the ride. And all that comes with it. I'll always remember what Aaron said at one Buell Homecoming, "It's like meeting a bunch of old friends I've never met before". Classic, and true as well.

Y2, I think most of the members of this board have matured above the rush to arms when someone throws a dart at Buells. If you don't adopt a sense of humor that bike will eat you alive.

I have paid my dues. At one time I thought Buells were sacred too. Bikes are kind of like kids, my Busa is the kid that comes home and does his homework and never gets in trouble. My Buell is the kid that stays out late at night and breaks windows and gets in fist fights.

Anyway, put some duct tape over that hole in your chest and learn to laugh. Its about having fun.

Incidently, I hate Toyotas. One hit me this summer in BC and sent me flying. I ended up with a broken leg and a totaled bike.

While we are on the subject,

Why has BMC and HD not got the clue that there is a large group of single lovers. Take KTM and MuZ who cater mostly to this group. They have built a great platform in the Blast, but in their wisdom stopped with a "beginners bike". Which requires modification for us experienced riders. It wouldn't be that hard would it to come out with another model to create the bridge. My vision would be a moderately tuned big bore Blast motor in a XB frame. I know most of you chuckle at our singles, but some of the best and most fun bike that I've ridden and owned only have one cylinder.

Here's a FACT................

My S1W handles great at any speed. In fact, if it was flat out, somewhere over 135 to 140 MPH, I bet I could take my hands off the bars, no exaggeration. Thus, anyone's S1 that can't perform this 'act of bravery' has a poor handling or poorly set-up S1.

As for the Bus, if you're not squirting it between corners as hard as it can go, or pushing it over, and I mean over, 120MPH it is a tad boring, the thing is that stable and comfortable and uneventful. Over 160 and things seem to go eerily quiet and the brain is doing some serious overtime. Nothing is relative to you anymore either, when you get to warp speeds, and it's like you've been cocooned in a world of your own, which is extremely euphoric, and therefore difficult to slow yourself down.

Never can anyone compare an S1 to a Busa though, shame on you all that do.

Ray, I totally agree. I thought that was what the Blast was going to be to begin with. A "beginner" bike, but with classic Buell style, ergonomics, wheels and suspension. The motor could always be attended to by owners. Instead, it has beginner written all over it!

I do think that there will be another single coming, and am looking forward to it. Looking at the Blast itself gives some clues (in my mind). Look at the rear sprocket, I don't think it was actually purposfully made to be that wide compared to the belt. We have all see the pictures of the gas tank mounting holes for a fuel pump, and there are more.

I got to talk a Buell engineer shortly after I got my Blast. There where a lot of things that were considered for the Blast(like there are for all bikes) I'm sure some of those condiderations will be brought back up to the front of the line.

Sometimes the wheels move much slower that we want them to, but sometimes the waiting is worth it. Buell has had a LOT of moving and shaking going on in the last year. I'm just going to wait and see what shakes out. Until then I'll just ride and enjoy.(of course that's just me)

Speaking of the XA, I saw a similar one about 10 years ago in a dealer in New Mexico. It has a boxer style engine with the flexible header pipes (kinda looks like dryer hose) and a shaft that snaked around the rear tire. The muffler had a perforated heat shield like what was on the sidepipes of a 66 Vette. I have no idea what it was called but I was fascinated by it.
The japanese WWII HD I believe was by Mako. Like was said earlier, vitually identical because of the use of original HD tooling. American Iron did a feature on one last year.

I've got to ask what that number is? I'm coming up with something like less than a dozon, but am genuinely curious.

I'm wanting to do an article on "Customer Satisfaction" and wanting to draw a parallel between the group of folks who insist the current version of the Porsche 911 "sucks, is an inherently flawed design and unfit for the road" and the group of dissaffected Buell owners.

Take a look at the Polaris Vistory site:

Broken transmissions, bad fuel injection, oil pumps not pumping, Management discontuning existing models.

Sounds very fimilar.

Huh, Although I currently ride a Triumph, I still have a passion for Buells.
My passion however lost intensity not due to the Bikes but due to HD/Buells views on Dealership, Service and support. (Or lack of)

It didn't bother me in the begining with promises of things changing for the better. (Didn't happen, Not happening, doesn't look like its gunna happen)

Dealer support in the Rain Forest is poor at best.

I ride to many mile yearly to own a Mail Order Motorcycle. Some day maybe H/D will get it through there Cruiser heads Some day they'll realize that an American Sport Bike Company needs to be cutting edge and I dont mean just the Bike, I mean the whole thing.

I would rather see Buells sold with Sport Bikes, Stocked with wear parts, Sales people that are Jazzed about MOTORCYCLES. Instead we but Bikes from people that really dont have to sell. We buy parts from guy's with names like "Grey Dog" that could really give a shit about our Sport Bike.

We deal with service people that when approached say things like, "Oh God not another Buell deal, Why dont you get a real Bike?"

All those frustrations turned me away.

My passions still inside on simmer. I'd love for HD/Buell to get with the program so that simmer could turn to Boil!!

Court, I don't want to dillute Vik's post, and will only speak for myself, but 'hater' is a pretty strong term. I would prefer 'disillusioned', and I think theres more 'disillusioned than 'haters', but of course thats just arguing degree of unhappiness.

I bought my S-3 for a sport touring bike. It simply failed to perform that function. I will not likely buy another Buell, but I intend to keep the one I have.

There were times that I actually 'hated' my Buell. Being broke down a long way from home, missing an event because of failures, etc. Fortunately for me I have the financial capacity to own more than one bike, and since I can own a reliable sport touring bike (Suzuki Hayabusa), my hate has moderated.

The bottom line is Buell has lost me as a customer(except for parts). Viva Japan!

Hi all,
Hardware question for you. I need a longer connecting rod that connects the shifter and shift arm of the older buells. Where would I go to look for one? My M2 has Banke peg relocators on it but at the track this weekend I was leaning over so much that I was grinding the toe peg of the shifter and it is adjusted as far up as the current bar will allow, it needs to be about an inch longer. What are these tie rods called and where can I look for some?
Thanks,
Buck.

P.S. is the rod from an S1 longer than the one from the M2? Also, I like the old style shifter and don't want to convert to the new style or Banke shifter.

Yes, "hater" was too strong of a term. I have seen many people go from fantical enthusast to not willing to buy another Buell. This number is considerably more than a dozen.

Armalite had an upper that will fit not only Genuine Colt but 99% of the AR/M16 clones on the market.

It also will do the job.
