Y2, can I call you that? the long form is tricky to type. I feel sorry for anyone that is predjudiced against Japanese motorcycles, they are denying themselves a treat.

The GS1150 is not a 45 degree twin, sorry to step on your cookie.

I have two Busas, one Buell, a Goldwing, and a CRF450 Thumper. I like them all. I like how the thumper sounds, it rips, and backfires

I trade rides with a friend, and have logged some miles on a GS1150, its a superb bike, sounds like a sewing machine, but corners like a thoroughbred.

Y2, forgot to mention that I definitely bought the Busa because it was the fastest one. Still is. When they make a faster one I'll buy it.

I like to go fast, real fast. I like acceleration, the Busa will pull nearly a full g in the first three gears, and will take you to 150 in third. It corners like a bitin' sow.

Buell makes a damn fine beginners bike. Keep practicing, you'll get the hang of it.

"Outperform"? Okay, you want a Buell that will "outperform" a Busa?

Okay, let's compare handling, and how about fuel efficiency, or weight?

Better watch it, you're close to earning a challenge to ride your Busa around Oak Hill Raceway... behind my M2... but probably in front of Cecil on his ZX12R. :p

You ready for your upcoming track day?

Snail - want fast? Then why have 2 buses when you could sell one and make one a turbo bus. I think you can hit 400 RWHP easy, probably 5 but that would take more money. I spoke with a fellow a few weeks ago with a 411RWHP GSXR 1100, he said he could hit 180 and then get it to a stop in a long city block.

I was thinking about all of this awhile ago and a guy in his 30's, with a crutch due to a broken hip, comes up to me and asks if that is my turbo Buell. We talked for a bit and he gave me a number for "the turbo bike expert" who would have plenty of time to talk to me because "he is recovering from a bike accident". I'm sure that both of these men are great people but one is recovering from breaking the largest bone in his body and the other will never be the same after his get off; are these to be my peers?

My pop has a Bus and it is a great bike. However, if given the choice - as in, my S1 in good working order - I will ride my S1. Pammy said it best in her remark concerning the sensation, or commenting on it anyway. My S1 is more fun at 50 than the Bus is at 70. Wind blast, flickin', wheeliein' - if I can call them that, jumpin' it over speed bumps, etc. In all fairness thought the bus is much more fun at speed, the S1 is a bit spooky, and it does shoot fire - talk about a feature.

As another man facinated by Buells recently told me "it is not about logic", so buy your passion.

In fairness the bus is quite a bike. It is more comfortable at 170 than the S1 is at 130. On the bus you think to yourself I'm going to jail, on the S1 you think I'm going to die.

Roc,

There you go. Busa riders are just afraid to die and Buell riders don't want to go back to jail, again. :]

Paul,

Isn't the ZX12R faster? It's lighter and higher HP ain't it.

Blake (stirring the pot)

PS: So you ARE going to chop up the 1st Busa into a naked beast? Too cool.

Snail-

You ain't listening. You ain't paying attention. I don't think you're ever gonna get it and i don't have the time to make your education my personal responsibility.

If you think the 'busa's so great, why all the other bikes? You'd never ride them, 'cause you'd always pick the 'busa.

I never claimed that the X1 was anything more than the bike that i happen to own and ride now. I explained why I enjoy the X1 and never suggested that the X1 was faster, badder, cuter, or whatever. I believe that's where YOU came in.

The R1150GS is a BMW dual-sport and yes, it is certainly not a 45 degree V-twin.

GS1150? Not familiar with it. Sounds like more jap crap. Don't care how fast, how well it corners, brakes, leans, what it sounds like, how much mileage it gets, stops on a yen, whatever. I ain't got the time of day for you or your jap crap!

Anyone know the price on a starter? I have a 00M2. It's too early for my shop to be open and I want to get an idea and sty busy so that I'm not tempted to shove a rag in the tank and blow this POS up.

Hey Duck:
IMHO it's probably not your starter but the solenoid. My 99' really started acting up and not starting and clicking really bad. Found out after cleaning the hot wire to the starter (BTW be careful when removing that nut since 1: It's direct to your battery. 2: It is usually corroded and if you turn the stud then you really will need to replace the solenoid.)
Anyway from my limited memory the kit is about $55-75 and the starter is around $125.

That doesn't sound good. My S1 is dead (maybe that's not the right word) stable at its terminal velocity.

Butting into this here debate(?), the Busa and Buells are completely different animals. I feel ignorant for putting them in the same sentence. To each their own. If'n I had the $$, I'd own the final air/oil cooled GSXR 1100 (can't remember the year) with a turbo.

Y2k01x1- what an F'ing tool. Typical harley rider mentality. Japcrap, if it aint american I aint riding it... on and on.

Buells are great, they are fun, they break alot, they are fun anyway... But they aint the be all end all just cuz they are american.

If you only want to ride one brand of bike cuz of its place of origin, fine, but realize you come off sounding like an idiot when you put down other bikes just because of where they are made.

Personally I have a blast on all my bikes, and dont give a hoot in hell where they were assembled, or where the parts came from (check the country of manufacture on alot of yer All-American Buell there bucko).

Only ride Red, White and Blue, fine. But understand that by limiting yourself to only American made bikes, you are limiting your riding. No true SportBikes, No SuperBikes, oh and yes.... No Dirt Bikes either.

Have Fun USA boy.

Fish ON!! Y2, I probably didn't get the numbers right on the Beemer, we're talking about the same bike. They're made in Germany, not U.S.A.

Blake, the '99 and '00 Busa's are the fastest production motorcycles. After '00 all the manufacturers complied with a mandatory/voluntary speed restriction.

Theres two bikes that will kick the Busas ass in the quarter mile, the ZX12 Kawaker, and the Gixer 1K. Both of these bikes will do the quarter mile in the high 9's right out of the box. My next bike will probably be the gixer 1K.

Love to follow you around the track, win, lose, or draw it would be fun. I'm a mediocre rider, but I'd give it my best shot. You'd know you were in a race.

Roc, I am selling one of the Busas and will be putting a turbo on the other one. Probably go with one of the milder ones, I think 250-300 HP should be adequate.

Suzuki released a GS1150 in the mid 80s

BMW had (has?) an R1150GS dual sport and I know they had a "standard" bike GS11?? but I haven't seen those very often (and can't seem to find online).

Carefull....you bash the R1150GS and you'll have a handful of us to wrestle. If is one of the more capable bikes ever made. Pricey, but can leap into any role from Sport-Touring to off-road. Tis, in addition, a torque monster in it's own right.

Court, I'm far from bashing the Beemer. I lke it a lot, have put lots of miles on one, I just got confused about the number/lettering designation.

I was trying to point out to Mr. Red White and Blue Y2 that the Beemer wasn't built in U.S.A., and in fact Germany has fought two wars against us.

Just fishing, I like all bikes, including my Buell. Now quit mauling my bait.

Go Paul! That will be fun.

Rick, I would love to build a turbo air/oil GSXR 1100. Time, money, desire eh? My S1 has been a bit twichy at speed as long as I have had it. I'll get to it some time, it isn't often I go that fast. I've been told dropping the forks in the tripple trees 10mm will cure it, sounds counterintuitive though.
