Flapjack,

This is very interesting stuff. Could this be the next step in technical advancement for air cooled engines allowing them to step up power without sacrificing reliability? Or is it too good to be true? Sounds like a valid concept to me. Kind of a half step towards the ceramic engine and it's higher heat efficiency.

Would you please define what you mean by "substancially more power"? 5%? 10%? More?

Flapjack,
Not being directly involved in the building or tuning of that motor, I can only go on what I was told, I was led to believe that the coating stayed intact, and the "power loss" the car suffered after getting coated was corrected by removal of the coating from the combustion chambers in the heads, which then led to a power gain(over uncoated motor) Now, for all I know, maybe he just didn't tune the engine properly for the combustion
differences caused by the totally coated engine,
but this guy was one heck of a good machinist, of course that may not make him a good tuner, but he was no dummy. Anyway, I'm not arguing with any of your points, and this probably wouldn't apply to our aircooled motors even if it was a valid issue in a small block drag-only motor. I would think our motors would love keeping heat out of the heads and cylinder matls, and out of the oil and in the combustion chambers, especially if, as I suspect, the coatings help reduce or eliminate hotspots, one of the worst causes of detonation.
Sounds good in my head, anyway, correct me if I'm wrong!

Just saw this "Infomercial" on TV:
AirVest. Biggest problem is forgetting to remove the lanyard when you get off the bike, and unintentionally inflating your vest (bet that would make a hit with the Ladies;+)}. Anyway the rider in the video would be much better served by spending his $'s on an MSF course than the AirVest. Hell for the $599.00 price you could take an MSF course and a track day. Too bad I can't find my pictures of what a motorcycle would look like if the "Safety Freaks" had their way, you could barely tell it was a motorcycle.

V2Win, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, he's just trying to confuse you. 3 is more than 2 so an S3 must be better than an S2.
Now go to Deals' Gap so I can talk to the Duc Hunter alone.

Interesting that a bunch of peope here have Korean experience. Obviously ex-military.
My 2 years' experience with Korea has been related to work, martial arts and a little bit of pleasure, but I agree, the Koreans can be just as friendly as anyone else I've met in Europe. I almost always invite someone to eat or drink with me when I'm abroad and it is the best way to get to know a culture. In particular, I recall my 4 years in England and a certain ex's 1 year long trip to all over Africa on a student/work visa. Then I look back at the pleasure trips to the 50+ countries I've been to for merely a week at a time. She and I unanimously agree that on a 1 week trip, all you see is things, what it is, what it was, much like looking at a coffee table book, but you never get an understanding of the country and the people that live there. Once again, and long overdue, I am feeling alive and am smiling with the anticipation of an adventure of a lifetime. Perhaps elightenment as well.
But since, it is only aprroximately a 1 year term, I will be back and am keeping the house and bikes. The cats become custody of my parents, or vice versa. Financially, living in 2 countries will be a stretch but all I'll really need is money for gas and food on my future excursions. Yeah, a used V-strom is looking good.
But I'm not disappearing from here either. The BWB will be my sanity link to the USA.
Well, it's 11pm here, so later, buds.

Should X1 be forwarned about those stealthy traps called bin-jou(sp?) ditches?

Or how about the roadway rice thrashing? That stuff is slipperier than leaves on a damp twisty road.

Hi there everyone. I've been reading the site for a few years now, but this is my first time posting. I have a 99 X-1 and live in CT. Maybe (hopefully) someone here can help me. In the spring 2002 edition of Battle2Win, there was a blurb about a company called 20 Grit out of California who offered a "torque converter" seat cowl for the X-1. They said recently that they had a great initial run, but requests have dropped off, so they probably won't be making any more. My question is this, does anyone have one or know someone that has one for the X-1 that they would like to get rid of for whatever reason (except broken). I'd really like to pick one up before the bike goes in for paint this winter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Quick question. I may need to buy new cases for my 99 S3. Is it safe to use 91 and newer Sporster cases or would I be sacrificing something?
Thanks.

yea checked that its all tight if you let it run and rev it up u can see the oil trickle out the valve cover gasket i also had my neighbor come look at it he thought it might be the oil line that comes from the crank case he said his sportster leaks from there all the time he said the check valve sticks but its not that you can see it running from the valve cover thanks though
