Thanks MikeJ I reposted in the for the factory as I agree with you this may really cut performance. But I am sure the factory must have though of some sort of solution. There are just too many forest service roads out west to miss out on.

Would a Supertrapp muffler with its difuser discs be the same thing as a spark arrester?

Might want to check regs in regard to street type motorcycles as to whether they fall into the need for a spark arrestor. The rangers at Stonyford(Mendocino Ntl Forest) stick a coat hanger into your muffler to make sure its not straight through,is the Buell's?

Probably not. The U.S.F.S. is almost a picky as the Calif. DMV/DOT/CARB/BAR bureaus combined at times.

Blake,

Have I missed a recent development?

My profile is nearly nekked - moreso than my M2.

Need I refill it, or are you adjusting the database?

Curt, fairly un-recent news, a little glitch that Blake is aware of and working on.

how did Gordon's memorial ride/s go?

Jerry,

The Sunday version was a great day of riding. I logged 185m door to door, so about 130-140m for the group.
We had 7 bikes do the loop. 6 Buells and 1 Goldwing...the Goldwing was 2 up and kept pace pretty well!
Curt can fill you in better with names of those that went along(I'm bad with names).
BCSteve and his wife were 2 up on his Ully'.
All n all was a great ride, blessed by the spirit of Gordon Buhle, lots of clean roads with only a few cagers....it really was light traffic the whole loop!

Thanx 4 headsup on profile - guess I've been distracted the last couple a weeks....

The 2 rides went very well. Feike led me & Tuono Joice around the loop on Sat, after we'd met at the Overlook with Reg [BattleTrax & "Battle2Win"] & James Banke & John McDonald. We jawjacked about Gordon, and other subjects, too.

I led Sun from Alice's, along with BCSteve + wife [missed her name, twice], Uly; David Klein, M2; Skip, S-1; Barry, S3T; Bob, XB9city; and Mike + Renie [wicked fast on their Gold Wing]. Debbie & Neil of "Thunder Press" met with us before our departure. We sidetracked to the crash site and skipped the Overlook on our way back to Alice's.

We all liked the paver idea, and now, I have another:

A Gordon patch, simple & rectangular, blue lettering on black, based on the paver design & text. Its cost would be 100% funded by sales, or perhaps underwritten with some of the surplus from the paver account.

Watcha think?

thank you Bob, glad it went well, sorry i couldn't attend but i had to work. my ride to Gordon's memorial and back on Friday (and into Saturday - home at 0130) was 635 miles.

had the rear pegs down for Gordon from beginning to end, was blessed by a full moon on the ride home, made the road easier to see, and made me feel like GB was lighting the way.

ride in peace Gordon.

Curt, thanks for the ride report, sorry so slow to respond, looks like we posted at about the same time and i've been away for a bit.

the patch idea sounds good, and i encourage you to run with it. clear anything that involves promoting your idea via BADWEB with Blake first.

using the paver design that Vik has spearheaded sounds great.

there could be issues regarding using some of the paver fund for this, since the money so far has been donated for that purpose only.

i'd be ok with a portion of the $ that Denise and i donated being used to design and create a patch, but i can't speak on anyone else's behalf, of course.

the time to run with the patch idea is now, while Gordon's memory is still fresh and vivid in our collective minds.

i can only offer limited logistical support for this at this time - my upcoming ride is trying its best to consume me - but i'll help any way i can.

ride in peace Gordon.

Curt,
Love the idea as well. I can't remember the name of the place that did my RANE patches, but they're good people and do all of the Elves stuff as well. I'll do some digging and post their info this afternoon.

I have noticed that people we are in contact with from this web do pass on for many different reasons. Earlyer this year we lost Rob. How about an in memory patch that we are able to add rockers to. This is not to detract from Gordon but to honor all those we want to keep with us when riding.

I sat on one last Friday in a local showroom. Beyond what the salesman said I know nothing about them. Their dealers are spread thinner that Buell dealerships though. A Victory is on my short list though, but I haven't had a test ride yet. There is supposed to be a discussion web site somewhere focused on the Victory/Polaris bikes.

RE: Victory

Oh, how I've been waiting for this....

I am NOT a Harley guy. I love my M2, and in the 6 years I've ridden it I've learned a lot about how much $$ they/we have to spend to get better power outta our Milwaukee bikes. At least Buells are already kinda SE'd with good brakes & suspensions - a Sporty for the same $? No way!

So I extensively test-rode a Ness-styled base Victory - same or less $$, seemingly CVO-level HP & torque, great fit & finish, same or better handling, better brakes, more exclusive - need I go on?

If there's a Victory model done in a style similar to an H-D that a buyer likes - well, it's beyond me how the Motor Co. could win such a sale over the Polaris product.

Absolutely not my kinda bike, but I truly believe it's a superior product.

Mebbe the smart play is a used, recent one [again, kinda like a Buell], since I assume Victory resale is inferior to H-Ds.

Please help!

I'm a new member to this discussion board. I have got a Buell S1 from 1998 and I've got problem with vibrations in the handlebar. I have tried to fill the handlebar with led but it didn't make it any better. If I drive in 5:th gear above 120km/h it's ok but below my hands don't like the vibrations.

Is there anywhere I can read more about this problem? Could I change something to make it better? Could some kind of handlebar dampers be mounted?

Regards
Ralf Arvidsson

Hey Ralf, is it cold weather where you are? You may have a problem with an isolater you should get that looked at if you don't know how to check. Cold weather riding will make the bike have much more vibration as the rubber isolators get harder when it is cold. First day I drove the old M2 in the cold I thought something had broken.

Ralf, I have a 96 S1 and have found out that when I start noticing excessive vibrations, it's a sign that the primary chain is loose and needs adjusting. What happens is that at certain rpms, the upper run of the chain whips up and down causing these vibrations.

Try installing the Buell gel grips and wearing gloves. That helped a lot. Make sure your front isolator is in good shape as well.

Thunderbox, how can I easy check if my front isolation damper is ok? Is it expensive to change? Is it just the front isolation damper that must be changed or are there more to change?

Captainkirk, have Buell got special gel grips to sell?

Will vibration dampers in the handlebar ends help? What weight is recommended?

Sandy / Lightkeeper, I actually think that is a good idea. A memory patch that we could add a chevron/rocker with the name of those we have lost that we want to remember. The main patch, in honor of Gordon and because it would be fitting, could be the one they are coming up with for Gordon. I in no way mean this as any disrespect of Gordon's memory.

Absolutly agree. No disrespect towards anyone. To honor Gordon as the namesake for the patch would be great. I also feel that This would be a way to remember all who have contributed big or small to what we all enjoy. We make statements about being able to ride with again an that so and so will always ride with.

Ralf; there was recently a bar vibration discussion:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/132650.html

Never mind the initial temper flares. There's a lot of good information in there.

Better however to try to fix the main issue (if there is one) than to remedy the symptoms.

Can you relate the vibrations to a certain RPM range?

Henrik
