Does anyone know where I can get a 99 X1 front muffler mount kit? I know that they are obsolete but I don't want to pay 91.00 for the 2000 X1 conversion kit

$91 is cheaper than getting your broken exhaust studs fixed.

The updated mount eliminates most if not all the exhaust mounting problems on the "tubers".

Check ebay for the old style mount or the classifieds here. If you do go that route get the upgraded urethane bushings that Al sells over at americansportbike.

However, I would still recomend getting the updated mount, the peace of mind on a long trip is worth the $91.

bdellb...I put the upgraded front mount on when I went to an aftermarket muff at my own cost.

Why? I didn't want to loose the new muff and have to argue with a dealer about replacing it if the original mount failed or caused damage to the exhaust system.

Just consider it "Cheap Insurance" and bite the bullet.

Man,

Never realized how important the search function on the BBS was.

Check this out,

I called Chandler HD here in Phoenix, Az this afternoon to find out if they have a Ulysses in stock so I can check the puppy out. A salesman answers the phone (how do I know ... because he said Buttlips ... sales - insert name in place of Buttlips) and I put the question to him, “Hi, do you have a Ulysses in stock that I can look at?” There’s about a 5 second pause and the guy says, “Um, what’s a Ulysses?” (He probably thought I said Useless or Usedtits ... dunno he's a dork). I tell him its’ one of the new 06 Buells! He puts me on hold to get the sales manager. A few minutes later I get the sales manager and I say, “Hi, do you have a Ulysses in stock, you know the new 06’ Buell XB12X?” Again, there’s silence on the other end for a few seconds, and I say, “Hello” …… then guy says, “Well I’m not sure if we have any” (this is the sales manager for crying out loud). If he's that freaking stupid, then why couldn’t he look out of his office towards the showroom floor and take a looksee. Anyway, he goes on to tell me he just got back from the -BUELL- dealership show up in Denver (like I don’t know about the dealership show) and he isn’t sure if he had any. Then after trying to get my phone number (like all brilliant, highly educated and idolized skilled salespeople ) I tell him that I simply wanted to see the new Ulysses up close and personal (was going to trade-in my turbo fatboy ... yea, I realize I'll get more selling it privately). Then he tells me he’s not sure “when” they will arrive at the dealership maybe in another week or so.

This is exactly what keeps me from buying another Buell. Total unacceptable incompetence (that some accept as good service)! It’s like a “wake up call”, for me, reminding me of how it used to be here in the Valley of the Sun and "probably" still is. This is the same dealership that I rode my RR1200 to and no one knew Buell made anything older than a 98'. <grin>

Pretty damn pathetic.

Hey Smokedaddy; your experience is probably typical. There was an article in the MKE Journal/Sentinel last month about Buell and how Harley would like to sell more. I've been meaning to write them and tell them that the problem is a lot of dealers still treat the Buells as step-children. "You want to talk about Buells?" "Let me find someone". Goes and gets the janitor. You know what I mean.

Sporty...Wasn't three years ago on my 2000 X1 which was out of warranty.

According to the service department at Hal's and their follow up with Buell Customer Service or whatever they call after they do a computer check, the only way it would be replaced for free was if it was broke.

As I just put an aftermarket can on, I wasn't to keen on arguing over the replacement of my Non-Buell muffler if and when the mount failed on my bike. So I just paid for my own piece of mind.

Incidentally, this was done the same day I had my SRP equipped shock replaced as it was leaking badly. Almost got stung with the full cost of replacement as the computer said "recall was satisfied with installation of SRP kit.

Based on the info I acquired from the BWB, I was fortunate that I took copied of all pertinent information with me that day and Hal's was able to get the shock Goodwilled for $100.

I guess the part that still irks me is the "Hal's was able to get the shock Goodwilled" part. I was nice as can be with them, still I was glad I had the printed info with me. I betcha if I didn't they may well have ripped me off for the shock.

The bottom line is the lack of communication between the dealer and the consumer is overwhelming and everyone plays their cards so close to their chest that you almost always feel you are getting the shaft.

Seems to me, Service Bulletins and Recall Notices are something that should be honored by the dealer, regardless of their business strategy as that is something the factory has decreed.

Please don't take this as a slam against Hal's. My overall experience with them has been wonderful and will continue to do business with them as long as I have an HD/BMC product. It is just the gray area of Service Bulletins and Recalls that keep me in suspense concerning their honesty.

Smokedaddy,
You're a big boy. Take your business across the street.
However, calling these guys slimeballs because they're trying to get your number and sell you something is a bit harsh. After all, it is a dealership and their job is to sell bikes.
And, of course, you'll want a bargain too, I bet.
Yeah, cause that's gonna happen. This will quite possibly be the best selling Buell EVER and you just shanked your chance at getting to the front of the line because someone dropped your pacifier on the floor. If they hadn't heard of it yet, you probably would've been the first guy on their call list when you told them about it. but...
First they're incompetent, and then when they try to get your number so they can call you with info, you straight arm them. Nice move. Impatient and passive-aggressive. (thumbs up dood!)
Those guys are probably better off for not having you as a customer.

I was riding around up in Northern Minnesota this past week and saw a Black M2 parked with a Kaw ZRX12 in front of a bar in Backus. Anyone want to lay claim to this machine? If so, I'll let you know next time I'm up that way.

Brad, I would have called you too but I was tied up with family things and couldn't fit it in the schedule.

Andrew, you haven't been around here long so you don't know Jim or his history with the few Buell dealers available to him in Arizona. Can't just go "across the street".More like out of the state. This is an example of a long pattern of treatment of Jim and other Buellers in that area.He has a long history of contributions to this board.
And anytime I go to a dealership and I know more about the product than the sales staff, something is wrong!!!

Smokedaddy is unfortunately correct about way too many Buell dealers. The incompetence extends to the Harley side too. I regularly have similar experiences when getting Harley parts or service. Bike shop or not, it's basically a low-wage retail industry and too many dealerships treat it that way. One year at MMI or AMI and they start a tech at $8 an hour...probably less in parts or the service desk.

Smokedaddy's experience is also occuring in the Kansas City market. The XB12X is further away from these jokers experience and will make them even more alienated.

The HD sales system does not work for Buell. But stuck with it we are.

..or perhaps "The HD purchasing system does not work for Buell."

ANother dealership demonstrating low to no product knowledge. What sales manager wouldn't have their people boning up on the new models being released? Hell...if you the general manager, wouldn't ya have at least a reference card (cheat sheet) on hand for all employees. SO they can answer the basics about a new model?

I only wish I had a Buell dealership in Birmingham...let alone a choice of two.

The Uly is going to positively impact three groups, I predict (holding envelope to forehead)

One, the folks what ride em -- looks like a great scoot, and I can't wait to get a test ride --

Group the Second -- Buell, of course, for designing and producing a bike with broader appeal than they have historically -- this thing has grown legs of prodigious proportion, and the number of people that have actually laid eyes on em is teeny! imagine the noise generated when non-journos get their mitts on em (Go, Ferris!, for instance)

Third Tribe -- the Buell Distribution Network as an entirety -- Darwinian forces will mean those savvy dealerships (we know who they are) will thrive, move more bikes and accessories (Ulys and others, I"m bettin lots of riders come in to look at the Uly and ride out with another Buell), generate more revenue, and realize great profits -- those dealers that can't be bothered will suffer erosion in their numbers, and those on the fence will distrubute, bell-shaped-curve-wise across the spectrum

Number four (sorry, I'm arithmetically challenged), the Buell riders in general -- as tuber, my life can't help but be positively impacted when the local Buell store gets more heavily interested due to the Ulys brining in more trade, yes?

I disagree and suggest quite the opposite.

Based on activity at the annual dealer meeting I would suggest that dealers, formerly lacking in terms of Buell, have renewed interest in this bike.

They BOUGHT (not for inventory, but themselves) the XB12X in record numbers.

Dealers, who just last year would have gladly forfeited all three delivery phases, won't this year. Ergo some of the "get it" dealers are left with very little inventory.

I suspect folks more smarterific than me ownself are working overtime to resolve.

I suspect somewhere, far. . . far . . . away. . . someone is whispering "I told you so".

This, in terms of how dealers snagged them for their ownselves, is "Cafe' Racer deja vu".
