Ooops, using the "tree view" does work.

First click on the "plus" to open the list of threads and then if you click on individual threads they open as usual.

THANKS !!!

Congrats HawkDriver, you will love it.

Does the handle refer to the Honda Hawk? In many ways, I feel like my XB9SX is what Honda Hawk (a visionary bike) could have been if Honda had... well... more Elves.

The Hawk refers to the aircraft that I fly for Uncle Sam, a UH-60 Blackhawk. "Driver" is what some of us refer to other pilots in the Army. Any suggestions or things that you noticed just after you got it? Was this your first Buell?

Hey Hawkdriver, welcome. I kinda figured you were refering to the (Black) hawk helicopter. I used to ride around in the back of the SH60B Seahawk. Took one for a dip ( many moons ago )
Enjoy the bike, and have fun deciphering all the available info here, and believe me its ALL here!

This is my 2nd Buell. I traded in a much beloved 2000 M2.

Stuff I *would* do right away are to pull the mirrors and put on bar end mirrors, either the really nice ones like American Sportbike sells, of the $10 3rd Eye mountian bike mirrors I use. It will take just a little creativity to mount them through the bar end plugs, but nothing fancy. It really makes the bike look right.

Cutting the airbox wakes the thing up a little bit, and gives the bike a really nice snarl and snort when you get on the gas, but to be honest, the thing is incredibly well sorted from the factory.

Get the Harley sealer glaze on the translucid plastics ASAP. Even after the sealer, gas will haze the plastics almost instantly, but without the sealer it's even worse. It'll all buff out fine with sufficient labor, but its better to avoid it.

If you put in a race ECM (which frankly does not make a lot of difference without a race exhaust) be careful that you route the ecm bundle correctly, it's easy to put it in the wrong place where it will get cut by the negative battery cable.

I also trimmed and removed a variety of DOT stickers and reflectors.

The bike just works, it's remarkable, just jump on the thing and ride - ride - ride.

Well, if I had to choose between the two, I'd have to stick with the Genie.
ha ha! The bike handles like a dream, but doesn't make the power of the S1W. I am quickly catching up to Dan. : )

I still love my tripods though, I'll NEVER get rid of my S2's!

Has anyone tried Shoei's smoke or "chrome" shields?
Anyone want to hazard a UV protection guess?

Good question - keep me posted. I just bought a new Shoei and an extra smoke shield. Don't count on email requests for information to Shoei to yield any response ... at all ...

I sent you a PM re Shoei.

How dark do you think the smoke is? They don't look that dark in the store.

I've ridden for hours on end in bright sun with just the clear or smoke Shoei shields. I've come to the conclusion that they both block UV quite well. My sizable schnoz never suffering any sunburn symptoms when protected by the Shoei faceshield is how I come to the above conclusion.

Shoei has light and dark smoke shields. The dark is too dark for fading light conditions.

As per phone conversation w/ Shoei Customer Service; all Shoei shields, including the clear one, block 99% of UVA and UVB light.

As for Smoke: I used to buy the "Dark Smoke" shield for my Arai helmets. The regular "Smoke" was not dark enough for bright days. I have bought but not yet tried the Shoei Smoke shield.

Did you guys hear about this?

http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=3107048

(Lisbon, CT - WTNH, Mar. 21, 2005 6:00 PM) - A state trooper is in trouble tonight for his response to an urgent call for help. The trooper was answering 911 calls from friends of a man who had just crashed his motorcycle.

Trooper: "State police 911."
Caller #1: "Yeah I want to report a street bike accident on Incinerator Road in Taftville. Someone crashed on their street bike."
Trooper: "Yeah... too bad." (Trooper hangs up)

Trooper: "State police 911."
Caller #2: "Hi, I need to report a street bike accident"
Trooper: "What? Hello?"
Caller #2: "I need to report a street bike accident."
Trooper: "Was that the one on Incinerator Road?"
Caller #2: "Yeah."
Trooper: "Help will get there. Shouldn't be playing games." (Trooper hangs up)

did you click on the link? It's not some story I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend. It was on the local news, they have a video you can play within that link, they play the 911 audio taps.

Quite possibly not an urban myth; it was mentioned in a NYC paper today:

"A Connecticut Trooper was suspended for 15 days without pay after he was recorded on a 911 tape saying "too bad" to a caller seeking help for a man injured in a motorcycle accident. Police said Trooper Robert Peasley's answer did not affect response time to the accident involving Justin Sawyer, 21, who died of a severe head injury a week after the crash last August."

Personally, if indeed it played out as described in the article, I think that kind of behaviour/attitude should be thoroughly discouraged - i.e. fire his . The troopers response clearly indicates, that he just doesn't have what it takes. I wonder if AMA will step in and help the father in his quest.

The video on the site made it more clear that it isn't a hoax. I missed that the first time I visited the site and was thinking about a few other professionally done CNN format jokes I had seen in the past.

Dang, I can understand having a bad day and getting a little sarcastic on the job, but not on a 911 Emergency Line. That was just plain sick!

That makes me sick to my stomach.
I will say this. Having gone through this exact scenerio last summer with Andy (R.I.P), i expiernced the best people on the planet that day.

The police, medics, and fireman were all top notch people. There were no attitudes given to us, no snide remarks about us being sportbike riders. Many of the cops rode sportbikes, and totally sympathised (sp) with us.

I guess the one thing on our side that day was the off duty cop who was driving behind us and saw the whole thing go down. I was told he backed up our cliams that we weern't speeding or effin off. It was just an accident.

If i got that Trooper on the other end of my 911 call, i'd hunt him down and crack him one.
It totally pisses me off hearing anti biker stuff like this.

BTW..this happened in Conn, and i'm almost certain that they don't have a helmet law.
I also noticed that in the pic, the kid isn't wearing a helmet.

Just food for thought.
