Hoser,
I too would like to replace the stocker on my S2.
Same angle, not sure the filter depth, I'll check.
Aluminmum venturi would be great, the plastic one is getting to be in pretty tough shape.

See .......... now I'm busted ....................., not really having brought any of this on myself , merely by suggesting that a fellow participant make a simple backing plate , showing a picture , so that other creative participants might want to make their own.

Blake... I think we are OK here... even besides the fact that the moderators lead him over to the dark side... What has been discussed so far has complete and total disclosure on how to fabricate (and in fact has become on this thread a collaborative effort).

If you want to make a profit Hoser (more then fair) just pad the cost enough to cover a sponsorship, or sell them through a sponsor (which would probably be in your best interest anyway, a lot less grief).

If all else fails... Blame Court ; )

The flange is pretty much required on the bottom with a 3" filter. They droop with age, like everything else. Not much more effort, just leave a little material when cutting out the oval, then bend it 90 degrees.
The standoffs are as much work as the backing plate itself, if not more. With a stock outer cover, probably not really necessary. Certainly not with the narrow filter.
Keep in mind that there are different configurations regarding the location of the two screws holding the outer cover on.

Hmm, I had no idea that so many people needed an S2 backing plate. We already sell one from Westtek ( here, but it's kinda silly expensive because it comes with all the other things as well (breather filter, hoses, venturi ring, spacer ring, gaskets, standoffs etc). If folks need just a plate, I'd bet I could get Tim at Westtek to make them available plain without all the other stuff for much less.

Alternately, if Jeff wants to crank a bunch out, I'd be happy to provide a marketing outlet for him. One thing I've come to learn since taking the reins at American Sport Bike is that there are a LOT of Buellers that never come here to Badweb, for a lot of different reasons. So Jeff, if you're interested in making a batch to make a few bucks, ping me offline and we can discuss.

Al

Not on S-2's there aren't ,Eric and that's what this thread was talking about.
And if we all agree to give a donation to Badweb, will that keep ya happy,Blake. We need these enthusiasts to make this stuff for our poor ignored old S-2's.

It's fine if Jeff is willing to provide parts at cost (material only) or through American Sport Bike and/or another sponsor. It is important that we remain firm in our policy to avoid graying the line between sponsor and non-sponsor marketing activity. Sounds like Al is eager to help out. Cool? : )

Jeff,
You might think about going into business. Looks like you already have a start on a customer base and completely by accident too. We sure do appreciate all you've contributed over the years. Thanks on behalf of all of BadWeB. Be careful though; I hear that Al guy at American Sport Bike is a ruthless businessman. joker

Al :

I'll consider your offer , and yes there are a great number of Buell riders who do not participate here , some being from this area , reasons vary , mainly due to the amount of childish bickering that goes on , none of which I have ever taken part in . There is an almost unlimited amount of knowledge here on this site , many of the participants and custodians have earned my respect with thier contribution , these are the reasons I am still here , I like to help people.
What happened yesterday , .... it just happened , without me making an offer to provide goods or services to anyone. Those air cleaner pieces from westec ? , I don't feel your price is even close to being out of line.To delvelop a product , from concept to completion can be a good sized investment , when that product is then produced in small quantities , recovering these costs is challenging. There is a whole lot more going on here than just air cleaners , I have not solicited business here in the past , out of respect for Blake , the custodians and the sponsors although I could post pictures for hours of stuff that has been hand crafted right here at home. The type of work that goes on here is to provide me with a creative outlet , something that doesn't happen when working at a dealership and doing nothing else , the dealer I work for does little to sponsor Motorcycling as a sport , so to offset that I have personally sponsored a local racer to the tune of $3000.00 out of my pocket , I built his engine and the entire motorcycle for him , eating a portion of the expenses to make it happen. What am I trying to say here ?? , I'm not a huckster looking to make a quick buck by exploiting the other participants here.

Blake :

Thank's for the encouraging words , so,........ what does it take to qualify as a sponsor ??

All:

Thank's for the "enquiries" / "requests" , but as you can see by how this thread is going , I'm being pulled to the dark side (a bit).

A few tidbits of information.....................

This is not marketing

I have built and sold several air cleaners over the years , having no trouble getting $300.00 Cdn for a complete kit including all mounting hardware and a powdercoated steel XL ham can , the filter element etc. , Al's price for the Westec is fair , think about buying one of those , or making your own , it's not difficult , it is time consuming , thats why this stuff is not cheap. Yesterday I drove across town to buy some 1/8" 6061 , then back across to the other side of town to use the shear in a hanger over by the air port , I generally charge out my shop time at $45.00 / hr , see I've already invested several hours , my fuel and the cost of the material. Now I need more 3 1/4" 6061 round stock , .625" round stock , and many hours machine time to make an air cleaner.

So , Blake , does it really make any sense that I "provide parts at cost(material only)" ? , or should I just forget about this whole discussion and stick to providing services to locals in my area , as has been going on quietly for years anyway.

Bottom line is I must justify having all this in my garage....................................

shop2

shop12

So far none of this has cost a single badweber a dime , except me .

One month and counting , since I had a real paycheck !!}

Oh , I forgot , Bennett , to answer your original question when all this began , you wanted an original S2 backing plate ? I have two , one fiberglass , and one PVC ?? , take yer pick .

You dont want to know what UPS wants to ship an S2 fuel cell cover from here either !!!! , I think the box will continue collecting dust in the rafters.
