New. never installed cam covers with cam bushings installed. Trimmed for “Race Use” to provide easy access to the oil pump, and provides a unique look. Fitment is 1991-1999 crankcases, CAN NOT be used on 2000 and later crankcase. As with any cam set change or cover change, pinion gear to driven cam gear fitment should be checked. Cover “3” has been trimmed to completely remove the underside ribs that previously supported the (now removed) portion of the cover. Black wrinkle appears to be good but could use a cleaning due to being in storage for 10+ years. $165 OBO shipped 48 state. Cover “4” has remnants of the underside ribs remaining. Black wrinkle finish has blistered and would require removal/refinish. $140 OBO shipped48 state.

Why won't they work on 2000 and later? I blew up a 99, replaced with an engine from 02 and my clearanced cover worked fine? |

ARGH! I've forgotten so many things... I seem to recall the restriction being the covers themselves, but as this post states apparently the gasket selection is key based on which cover is used on a 2000-up case. |

There was an early to mid-(model) change on the engine line (Capitol Drive) where they began installing the “new” cam cover & gasket on 1999 engines. The newer covers and gaskets can retro-fit to older engines, but the older covers/gaskets can not “up-fit” to the newer engines. Cupcake Mike, I suspect your 1999 engine had the late style cover, which is why it worked on the 2002 engine. I have a 2000 and later cam cover (untrimmed) which has additional galleys which match the “C” gasket shown in the service bulletin in the link above. I’ll look to see if I have an open 2000 or later engine to confirm the crankcase also has galleys which match the “C” gasket - which I believe it does. If I remember correctly (always suspect), one of the reasons for the change was to provide a new oil passageway to spray/dribble additional oil on the cams. I’ll look through my old notes this weekend to see what info I can find. |
