Good morning 89rs1200,

If you would be kind enough to enlighten the community, where do you get a new tank for a 1989 RS1200 ?

Thanks,

Rick

Morning Rtll:

Airtech Streamlining. They make thousands of fiberglass parts for hundreds of different motorcycles. They make body parts for basically all the Buells from RR1000 to 1125R.

They will also provide an epoxy based lining which resists the Ethanol in the fuel, which is destroying my original tank.

Morning Speedone,

Thank you for the clip. I have heard just one other bad word about Airtech and it was antidotal, so who knows. My original tank and bodywork do not fit perfectly either. Airtech have been building fiberglass parts since 1983. They must be doing something right.

Bottom line is:
Ethanol will destroy rubber and fiberglass, period!
Government mandates will increase the amount of Ethanol in our fuel to at least 15%, E15.
Ethanol will attract enough water in a month or two to be a problem. No longer is it an option to store fuel over the winter for our lawn mowers and such.
We are not alone, Ethanol attracts water so quickly that even steel tanks are at risk from rust and corrosion. Ask your classic car guys about it.
No motorcycle nor ATV are certified to run on E15.
Carburetors, Are we all prepared to become experts in tuning to get our motors to run properly?

So, all we can do is:
Join the AMA in its fight against E15 and higher concentrations of Ethanol.
Buy new tanks, or if lucky, clean the hell out of our old tanks, and have a lining installed which will resist Ethanol.
Replace our fuel lines regularly before they turn into a gooey mass.

Concerning; "go and read this it might be useful http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48521"

Would have been nice if they had posted on BadWeb so the rest of us knew about problems with Airtech. Have saved, tried liners, and researched for years. Only real option is to start fresh with a new tank. My order is already in. Hope that my tank build is better than Dragstews.
