Is it just the pictures, or does the seat have a few good scuffs in the leather?

There's no major scuffs on the seat. there's a bit of wear at the front where it touches the tank. I'm guessing that's why the duct tape. I can take some more pictures on the weekend if you're interested.

I don't know because I'm not familiar with how a backrest would be incorporated into this seat. As you can see in the pictures there is no slot in the seat behind the rider as I have seen in other seats on different bikes.

Anybody else have any insight on this??

I'll do some research. and I'll do more specific pictures when I get home on Friday

It doesn't look like it could be used with the back rest.

not sure what kind of backrest your referring too.
the back pack and rack in my other ad was installed on this bike with this seat.

On my Corbin w/backrest there is a little flap on the back of the seat that lifts up to allow a metal post to slide in.
