I need bolts for the primary inspection cover and the bottom Bell shaped cover on the primary. I used the wrong size bit and they started to strip out I need to replace them.

Same parts that a sportster would use, so a Harley dealer may have them in stock.

I'd just get them at a bigger hardware store (in stainless). I forget the size and pitch off of the top of my head, but it is really common.

Do you still have one of the original bolts to take with you? They usually have a little thingy you can screw them into to get the size and pitch. Make sure they go in more than 3 turns to make sure the pitch is right.

There aren't many threads in there, so if you did too much damage, you will need to either go up a size and retap, or put in a heli coil to go back to the previous size.

they still work its just I wanted to replace them before they got worse next time I remove them. I need to take my clutch cable off soon and check the o-ring due to a slight leak from the hose connection into the primary. I just was dumb and used the wrong size drive when re installing them on my last primary oil change. I will check the local ACE hardware.

thanks

Not sure of the Buell part number but this is what you need. If you go the hardware store route it's 1/4"-20 x 2"...

Ah! I see. The heads are stripping, not the threads. Good call replacing them.

Ace should have them. Get stainless so they don't rust, but use anti-seize when you install them so they don't gall. I can't remember of those are recessed holes, I think they are, so the size of the screw head probably matters.

Thinking back to when I did the same thing to the screws on the M2 I had many years ago, I believe the Harley shops had replacement screws blister packed and hanging on the wall back then.

They were chromed, which would also not rust, just like the stainless option.

Thanks guys for the info. I'm sure I will be able to locate them at one of these places.

Happy Holidays
